Not sure if this adds weight to the rumour that Tarkin will appear, but it does seem to confirm that Krennic and Tarkin are rivals?

.@pablohidalgo, what's Tarkin up to during Rogue One? Is he not in charge of the death star anymore? Seem's like Krennic the boss.

@dabowen01 it's a big kitchen with a lot of cooks but only one head chef. That's part of the story of this and Catalyst. Intrigue abounds.

Judging by the trailers and trailers only. I would imagine that Director Krennic has a major chip on his shoulder and aspires to be at the top of the Imperial ranks. He likes to grandstand and show off, hence the white cape. Krennic may be overstepping his power and Tarkin strolls in and takes the director down a peg or two reminding him that he is in command of the Death Star, not Krennic.

It's Tarkin's house, Vader is his guard dog, and Krennic is the fence.

    P
Jedah looks to be the target in that trailer scene. However, it's Tarkin that interrupts the test fire...and reminds him that its his sector and his station...then says you may fire when ready...stare down with Krennic and death troopers and Vader just slightly behind him reassuring Tarkin's authority. A futuristic Mexican standoff... cue score composed by Ennio Morricone lol

I think there is going to be conflict between Tarkin and Krennic about who is the boss on Death Star as said. Since Krennic is director of Imperial Intelligence and Tarkin is Grand Moff of Outer Rim Territories- it is not easy to say which is exactly superior in this case. Emperor wants to keep his servants bickering with each other so they won't ally against him. As long as they both serve and obey him having little conflicts between them is not a problem really. Obviously Tarkin wins this eventually as Krennic makes a mistake and Death Star plans get away.

“We need to tighten our hold over the Outer Systems,” the Emperor continued. “You will be in charge of that, Moff Tarkin. Or should I say Grand Moff Tarkin.”

Tarkin’s gaped in genuine surprise. “Grand Moff?”

“The Empire’s first.” The Emperor spread his sickly hands. “Was it not you who suggested the creation of oversectors and oversector governance as a means of enhancing our control?”

    “It was, my lord.”

“Then your wish is granted. The Outer Rim is yours to oversee—and with it, Grand Moff Tarkin, the whole of the mobile battle station project.”

Tarkin rose from his chair so he could bow from the waist in frank obedience. “I will not fail you.” When he looked up, he saw that the Emperor was leaning forward in his chair.

“It will be a momentous responsibility,” the Emperor said, drawing out the words. “For once the battle station is fully operational, you will wield the ultimate power in the galaxy.”

Tarkin’s gaze moved from the Emperor to Vader and back again. “I don’t believe that will ever be the case, my lord.

The Death Star is Tarkin's...Krennic could try to overstep his authority with his relation with Galen. However, canon has Tarkin with Sheev and Vader as a triumvirate. Krennic is an advance weapons project director...one of many squares below Tarkin. This is the era that Tarkin assigns moffs fleets commanded by the likes of Grand Admiral Thrawn.

I have no doubt in a Darwin Sith political environment all is up for grabs. But, Tarkin gained his position not without dispatching rivals or out maneuvering them...Count Vivian included.

Wilhuff Tarkin vs. Orson Krennic is like the older versions of Hux and Kylo vying for Snoke's attention, as well as command of something big at the same time...

And looking at that fellow you guys were talking about, while his hair is the wrong color and isn't combed the right way, that high forehead and standing posture is beyond unmistakable... Which only goes to show one thing - it's very likely that Tarkin will make his big screen return in Rogue One, albeit via CGI!

Definitely Tarkin and given how Anthony Hopkins was made younger in Westworld or Michael Douglas in Antman, I'm betting John Knoll, who's story pitch Rogue One is, (not mention to mention he & his brother invented Photoshop) you can bet he and his team are busting their rears to recreate Peter Cushing face on screen.

And if his hair is the wrong color now, on it's only because his head is going to be replaced anyway

Why would you hire another actor, just to CGI Peter Cushing over him. That seems like such a waste of time/resources. Michael Douglas was actually there when they did that, he played both version of the character. That's not the case here.

They can always just recast Tarkin just like they recast Han Solo.

I feel sure that if we see Tarkin it'll be via a hologram or viewscreen. Far easier to visually recreate him that way. Yes they can de-age an actor with CGI. Way harder to produce a photo-realistic version of a famous dead one. With all of the personality & expressions that are so well known. In other words, to have him act & sound like Cushing from ANH while on screen in clear HD. That won't happen. Like I said though, there are a couple of "cheats" that could make it possible for him to appear.

There is something disingenuous to me about the idea of a cgi'd Tarkin. Just doesn't sit well for me knowing the original actor has passed.

Personally, I think an appearance via hologram is the best way to go.

So the other actors have someone to interact with, so they only have to do his head and hands with CG, and so there's a reference for the CG.

If a YouTube poop can have Tarkin say "You may fart chunks when ready" then it should be easy to just CGI Cushing for this film.

And just have him go on about farts and other immature things.

so here's the real question. Do you think we will Peter Cushing get a credit for his "role" as Wilhuff Tarkin in the Rogue One credits?

Well ,confirmed in their 'could it be?' kinda way. ;)

I'd imagine LFL have got permission from Cushings family to recreate him in any kind of way. I wonder if he will speak, not gonna lie it will be jarring to hear Stantons voice coming out of a CGI'd Cushings mouth.

Well Stanton has always sounded really close to Cushing to my ears, so I wouldn't have that big an issue.

    To quote the article:
"With Cushing long deceased, it will be fascinating to unravel just how Industrial Light and Magic may have brought him back – if that is the character, and if that’s the method of his resurrection.

They haven't confirmed anything. They're speculating, just like we are.

That is Tarkin and EW is basically LFL's mouthpiece on these films. They are essentially confirming it. Tarkin is a lock.
