it seems at the time it was still the Republic, and Palpatine the chancellor. I suppose Galen realized his mistake as the empire was eventually proclaimed. But then it was too late.

 

Maybe he's naive like Qwi Xux was.

 

I would be fine with that as long as he does not have a poorly written relationship with Wedge.

Seriously I hate Qwi.

 

if the timeline is correct erso is 'saved' by 'the republic' (including krennic) from the sepratists. at this time the republic is still considered to be the good guys......

 

So... The story has been flipped.
Krennic is saving them from Separatist kidnappers, in Prequel days.

Intriguing

 

Presumably after the events of Catalyst the Empire sets the Erso family up with this research lab on some remote world and then decide to bring them in for some reason.

 

And then they burn the whole place down for extra safety.

I think the book is going to proceed what we see on screen by quite a bit. I imagine the betrayal they talk about in the synopsis is Krennic eventually taking Galen off.

I had the initial thought as well that maybe we were seeing on screen the initial friendly meeting being described in the book, but I think with everything else we've seen we're seeing a later more confrontational confrontation.

 

My thought upon reading that was that perhaps Krennic stages the kidnapping attempt and "rescue" in order to get Galen and Lyra to join him more easily?

 

Whoever he plays, it will be awesome.

 

Cool that Krennic is essentially going to have an uncle/niece relationship with Jyn.

 

I'm really loving the character relationships in this movie.

 

well i really like how the novel Catalyst is going to (hopefully) be an 'inbetween' story, with the movie showing the key parts relevant to the Erso's and Krennic in the flashback, and then the eventual ending to these characters stories. id say that the novel will also flashback to before the 'rescue/whatever' thats being referred to. love that this is gonna flesh out key characters, especially Mads' Galen and Mendelson's Krennic.
also really like the character relationships in this. it will be interesting seeing how well it stands alone, without having to read extended materials.

Okay, so we know that Jyn Orso's father was involved with the construction of the Death Star. And we know he probably was forced to do it, since he was the one who sent a message out to the Rebels warning them of the Empire's super weapon.

So, is it possible that Galen Orso was the one responsible for the ventilation shaft that went straight to the core of the Death Star? I bet he helped design it underhandedly for the purpose of then telling the Rebels and giving them the ability to take down the battle station.​

 

I wonder how long it will take for someone to see my above post. I had started a new thread because I wanted my theory to gain exposure, but a mod locked it and suggested this wretched hive of scum and villainy.

 

I'm not sure that no one has seen it - it has just been discussed already in several places, particularly after the novel synopsis was released. It's definitely a story possibility...

 

Oh, then I'm doing pretty good then. I haven't really seen what others have said on the topic, and I didn't see the novel synopsis. This was just something I thought of as I drove home from the food store.

so does anyone think Mads will adjust his accent to be more in line with how his daughter speaks in the trailers (british/american) ?
i've never seen a film/show with Mads where he doesnt have his own accent, albeit speaking English (he's from Denmark, no?)

 

Possibly not. The difference in accent can be explained away in lots of ways;

1, Jyn has not had contact with her father for 15 years, plenty of time for her accent to change.
2, Lyra could have had a 'British' accent.
3, If the Erso family were funded by the Empire then they could have had a whole gaggle of household Staff (including Tutors for Jyn) as well as Imperial Guards keeping them 'safe'.

I think he'll play it as he normally does. The movie is already full of characters using their normal accents so I'm thinking it will be disregarded as they always have done.
