Rogue One [Official Info] Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - December 16, 2016

The question is do we see Vader or not. I guess and hope yes.

 

Surely, if only a glimpse similar to the Celebration teaser. Alert the general public to Vader's inclusion, then include a good look at him in the full trailer later on.

 

I do see the promotion of promotions to be a sign that we truly have reached a kind of marketing Ouroboros.

Then again, we're on a message board for a franchise which has been running TV ads for toys which promote the movies which promote the toys, all for close to 40 years.

 

After posting my bit of snark above, I have to admit I got a bit of a thrill out of that trailer-trailer.
And out of the Olympics-trailer-trailer yesterday.

That 2 second clip of a Death Trooper days before the first trailer was pretty damn hype too.

 

Peeps excited about seeing Vader (maybe).

I'm excited about that U-wing. It sure looks purty...

 

The U-Wing looks good on the inside. The exterior can be best described as workmanlike.

 

We will see a new side of Vader on Scarif.

 

Or even better: Watching a trailer for a trailer in order to watch a trailer for a trailer.

Darth Chiznuk and I were right. It's a cold desert! Great minds chiznuk alike.

ETA: The fact that Jedha is a moon also means that we are likely to see a large planet in its sky (ala Yavin IV's skyscape). For some reason, that's really exciting to me.

 

JabbatheHumanBeing Well if I'm honest I actually second guessed that theory after the Eadu reveal and know I'm confused and not sure what the hell is going on. It's pretty great!

But I do love the idea of seeing a cold desert planet and the fact that it's a moon is pretty cool. I hope it's more like Yavin than Endor in terms of seeing the planet it orbits.

 

I also love being confused and not being sure what the hell is going on. Much better than certainty!

Also looks like Saw is bunkered on Jedha - so perhaps he's the contact Jyn and Cassian are seeking out and those are his partisans attacking the stormtroopers in the trailer.

 

Yeah I get the feeling he may have fubar'd their original plan. Jyn and Cassian were looking for supply routes, trying to follow the flow, and Saw and his guys blow it up because Empire.

 

Jedha​

A small desert moon frosted by a permanent winter, Jedha is home to one of the first civilizations to explore the nature of the Force. At one time a world important to the Jedi Order, Jedha serves as a holy site for pilgrims from across the galaxy who seek spiritual guidance. Now, the Empire occupies Jedha, and a prolonged battle between Imperial forces and scattered Rebels carries on in the timeworn streets.​

Imperial Death Troopers​

The elite soldiers of Imperial Intelligence, Death Troopers are encased in specialized stormtrooper armor with a dark, ominous gleam. These soldiers serve as bodyguards and enforcers for Director Krennic, a highly placed officer within the Advanced Weapons Research division of the Empire.​

K-2SO (Kay-Tuesso)​

A reprogrammed Imperial security droid now loyal to the Alliance, K-2SO is an alarming sight standing within a secret Rebel base. The pragmatic droid is an effective insertion agent, as he can blend in perfectly at Imperial installations and outposts.​

Chirrut Îmwe​

Deeply spiritual, Chirrut Îmwe believes all living things are connected through the Force. His sightless eyes do not prevent him from being a highly skilled warrior. Though he lacks Force abilities, this warrior monk has rigorously honed his body through intense physical and mental discipline.​

Baze Malbus​

The harsh reality of his Imperial-occupied home world has hardened Baze Malbus into a pragmatic soldier and a crack shot with his heavy repeater cannon. Baze has a bravado that provides a marked contrast to the spiritual centeredness of his best friend and moral compass, Chirrut Îmwe.​

Director Orson Krennic​

As director of Advanced Weapons Research for the Imperial military, Orson Krennic is obsessed with the completion of the long-delayed Death Star project. A cruel but brilliant man, Krennic has staked his reputation on the delivery of the functional battle station to the Emperor.​

Shoretroopers​

Specialist stormtroopers stationed at the top secret Imperial military headquarters on Scarif, Shoretroopers patrol the beaches and bunkers of the planetary facility.​

Scarif​

The planet Scarif would be a beautiful tropical paradise if not for the presence of a major Imperial military installation. Scarif is the principal construction facility for the vast Imperial war machine. The world is enveloped in impenetrable deflector shields and is heavily defended.​

AT-ACT walker​

A larger version of the standard combat AT-AT, the AT-ACT walker features a dedicated cargo bed for the transportation of heavy building materials or combat munitions. It was deployed at major Imperial construction projects, such as shipyards and sprawling research installations.​

Saw Gerrera​

A battered veteran of the Clone Wars as well as the ongoing rebellion against the Empire, Saw Gerrera leads a band of Rebel extremists. Saw has lost much in his decades of combat, but occasional flashes of the charismatic and caring man he once was shine through his calloused exterior. Gerrera is bunkered on the ancient world of Jedha, coordinating a prolonged insurgency against the Imperial occupation. Saw’s ailing health has not withered his resolve to fight.​

Bodhi Rook​

A former Imperial pilot, Bodhi has strong piloting and technical skills that he will put to use for the Rebellion. Ever practical, but highly anxious, Bodhi must gather his courage to bring the battle to the Empire.​

U-wing​

A sturdy troop transport and gunship used by the Rebel Alliance, the U-wing starfighter is a well-armed swing-wing vessel that must penetrate heavy fire zones to deposit soldiers onto battlefields and then fly air support during dangerous missions against the Empire.​

 

Possibly - but it maybe they are actually looking for him. I think he knows Jyn from the past and we'll see this in flashback (I think he finds her after her father is taken and she escapes from the Deathtroopers). It may be that he has info on the supply lines. I wonder if Chirrut and Baze are part of his crew.

 

Love all these new images! Though a little worried about the quality of the CGI in the Yavin IV U-Wing shot. The background, in particular, looks more airbrushed, soft focus-style CGI (as in the Avengers, for example) than the crisp VFX we usually get from Star Wars (and that I see in every other Rogue One shot, including the one of the Death Star).

 

I like that. The extreme radicals always blowing up the long-game strategy. Very pertinent in today's political world.

 

I agree that he knows Jyn from the past. I think hairy Saw takes her in after her father is taken. They probably are looking for him, but I think they're also going to use it to build up that fraction in the early alliance. Both times that we've seen Saw mentioned in nu-cannon it's been some one criticizing his methods. I think the attack on the hover tank is going to be used to convey that in R1 as well.
