I hadn't seen the end of Rogue One and the beginning of A New Hope back to back in a while. I just watched it now on the May the 4th marathon on TBS. What I found interesting this time is that the Empire does seem in pursuit of the Rebels and the stolen plans. You see the Stormtroopers busting into the Tantive at the start of ANH, and I actually got the sense that they were in hot pursuit after the events that took place at the end of Rogue One. Same with Vader talking to Leia about where the plans are. I always appreciated the novelty of it. But I think now that we are some years removed from the release of RO, and especially after not having seen them back to back in a while, it's easier to see it as one seamless transition now.

Sometimes, I feel like watching RO just so I can see the U-wing in action again [:D]

I don’t think we have seen the U-wing on screen since 2017

I adore the U-Wing. It's my favorite post-OT ship design, without a doubt.

I really like the U-Wing too. My other favorite ship that was introduced in Rogue One was the TIE Reaper.

There are such great ships in RO. The U-wing, the TIE Reaper, Krennic’s shuttle, the seaturtle Imperial transport ships, the Raddus-mobile. All top notch.

It's just another way that Rogue One nailed the whole "you haven't seen this before, but it's totally believable that it's from right before the OT" aesthetic.

I mean, just look at these...

Peak Star Wars ship design. Thank you, Doug and co.

The Rebel cruiser having shield generators on its sides shaped like the gills of a whale is such a great touch. Very like how in LucasArts' 1997 Jedi Knight game there was a cargo ship designed by Peter Chan whose shape was evidently meant to suggest a whale, complete with a forward exhaust port on the top that resembled a blowhole.

@BlackRanger Always loved that ship from Jedi Knight, and agree, I always saw it as a cross between a whale and a zeppelin. Good shout!

I love watching Rogue One as if it wasn't a Star Wars movie. It's such a great standalone science fiction movie. And I wish it was recognized more for that. You could swap out everything about it that is obviously Star Wars, and it would still have its own distinctness and story that could be the start of a different franchise altogether. It would be like Dune meets BattleStar Galactica. And still easily one of the best science fiction movies made in the last 25 years.

I feel a deep sadness for anyone who can't fully appreciate the greatness that is Rogue One. :)

Anyone ever notice that Krennic got the full blast of the Death Star before Scarif did? Tarkin was a petty turd, no way this wasn't on purpose [face_laugh]

He kind of robbed Cassian of his kill (Krennic was unlikely to live) when he did that! lol

Well, they had their chance to kill Krennic before the Death Star fired. Jyn tried to lunge at Krennic, but Cassian held her back. Then they left the tower.

Yes, noticed that about seven years ago. ;)

But while it’s clear Tarkin took out the comms array on purpose, to prevent the plans from getting beamed off the planet, there was no way of him knowing Krennic was up there.

Browsing through this and wondering if this question was ever asked……was it really necessary to obliterate the entire Scariff station? It looks like it was the server for thousands of secret projects? I am assuming all those projects were gone? Shouldn’t the empire focus more resources in chasing the escaping ships instead of destroying invaluable intelligence and projects’ capital?

I know they had to do it in the movie for dramatic purposes but just wondering if anyone had another rational explanation.

^ At that point, Tarkin had the Death Star and all the power that comes with it. He wanted to make sure nobody else would be able to get anything comparable, so he wiped out the source of all potential competition.

He'd just call it "collateral damage," as the expression from the US military in Vietnam put it.

Though it does seem like the sort of thing that the Emperor might get mad about, come to think of it...

Totally agreed, but I'd add a side plate of arrogance, too. He's got the Death Star and thinks that nothing else could ever compare. When it comes to his tactics, his superiority complex is his biggest flaw. Tarkin could've ruled the galaxy someday, if he'd just kept his head out of his backside.

Orson Krennic, shot right in the face by the freaking Death Star. What a way to go. I love it, and the movie, so much.
