I’m hoping so. It’s the bridge between the two eras.

 

He told Luke in ANH: "I haven't gone by the name of obi wan since before you were born."

I wonder how far they take that? Will he deny he is obi wan to anakin himself? Does Owen Lars even know his real name? The inquisitors call him obi wan. Will he deny it to them too? I am very interested to see how far obi wan denies his identity

Being up with the spoilers (if true) I don't mind at all, in fact I would rather Vader was kept out of this than any other enemy of OWK's.

Thanks for pointing this out, I've been following all the news, but i haven't heard any mention of them.

 

Luke: I wonder if he means old has-been Kenobi.

Alternate line by young Luke: Aunt Beru.... I've been wondering.... why does Uncle Owen refer to the hermit as "old has-been Kenobi"?

 

There is a youtuber called "The Den of Nerds" who seems to believe the ending to Kenobi will split the audience because of its implications to canon.

The idea that Reva finds out about Luke and supposedly has a saber to Luke when obi-Wan finds her.

Which may not be true. or maybe totally out of context. But the issue they have is that not only does it conflict with episode 4, But it also means that Reva managed to do something that was never meant to happen under Kenobi's watch, and he will potentially let her go as the only one that can stop her is herself.

Now his view doesn't really matter. He is just one person. But i always tend to wonder whether things like this really would just be another issue fans have. Especially when you are touching on canon the way Obi Wan is.

So you mean to say you expected that Rey would be so demeaned, undermined and generally hollowed out as a character?

Look if you don't want to respond to points made then fine but I don't see the point of making a point of not responding to them.

Whether it's Rey, Ren, Finn, Luke, Han, Leia, Boba Fett etc Disney-Lucasfilm has been extremely underwhelming in realizing either their own characters or legacy ones they inherited.

BTW what is Reddit actually? I know it's some kind of forum commentary place but as I am not part of it I don't know how it works. Is it some kind of self moderated per user site? It is unmoderated?

I presume talking about "redditors" means something but I go to very few forums. Places where you can be viciously attacked for no reason hold no appeal to me or is that incorrect about Reddit?

 

When all that matters is that she is the first female protagonist... yes. She is an idea, without the character. She is constantly teased in all 3 films about her mysterious importance or that she is just powerful.

She and Luke have alot in common in some areas. But what she has in common isn't a coincidence, its a mirror of the idea of Luke. And because of that she is very transparent.

Whether you like it or not. she is still the Anakin and Luke.

11 Days Until Obi-Wan Kenobi is Released!

Fun Fact #19: George Lucas gave the script of TPM to Alec Guinness to read. Reportedly Guinness was enamored with the role of Jar Jar Binks and asked Lucas if he could voice him.

 

Well that was the problem. She and Luke really don't have all that much in common. The entire pathway for her was something that could have very easily been set out over the three movies mixing in parts Luke and Anakin then giving her something of her own.

Instead as you indicate the only thing that mattered to them was her being a female protagonist with power. That is the fundamental Disney problem. They look at what Lucas did then take the wrong lessons.

Like when studios thought Star Wars success was all about VFX. Disney looked at Luke and Anakin (Luke in particular) and then thought "Aha! We'll do it kinda like that but take out all the failures and weaknesses of Luke and then she'll be 10x that" when it's the flaws being overcome that make the character or in Anakin's case the flaws not overcome that make the character.

There was some hope for Rey even in TFA but it all depended on the follow-ups.

Even then TFA ended as badly as it could with her defeating Ren. How that was in any way going to work I have no idea (neither did they!) but I guess it made them feel good. No doubt their preferred version of ANH would have had Luke run to Vader not the Falcon, pick up Obi-Wan's Lightsaber and then proceed to cut Vader down with him barely escaping Luke's wrath.

Anyway point being that if Disney actually pulls this off with Obi-Wan then I will be thrilled because I don't think they've really pulled anything like this off before.

The only issue is Luke not being shocked when he eventually turns on his Father's lightsabre. Put that down to amnesia brought about by PTSD I suppose

 

Obi wan does a lot of spoofing and fudging the truth to luke. Its also well known that people who lie and lie consistently as obi wan does with luke lie more then they realise. It just happens too easily....

Yeah, you know always wondered that. Back during the PT days as the movies were rolling out, I thought maybe that name would be introduced. Like, maybe he has certain circle of friends or acquaintances that went by that name. I imagine now they'll have to use that name in this series, somewhere, right?
