Indira Varma is force sensitive and put it out? Obi-wan did it?

Good, intense episode. Every time Vader appears in something you can see how much painstaking time & effort they put into getting him right. Imagine if they put that much effort into everything else.

As people have mentioned, the Ben-Leia chat was very nicely done. With all these references to her mother, to me they're telegraphing an attempt to fix the plot-hole of Leia's memories of her as recounted in RotJ. I'm guessing some kind of Force-assisted vision brought about by either Ben or Reva. Which would actually create a different problem.

At some point Ben will have to get his mojo back. I imagine the catalyst for that will be Qui-Gon. Maybe even a chat with Yoda. At the time of ANH he's confident & at ease with himself & the Force. He casually mind-tricks stormtroopers etc. I expect this show will leave him closer to that state that this 'broken man' version of him.

As for the series overall, here's a couple of problems/inconsistencies I've noticed. At this point, why would Ben want to train Luke? At the time of the OT it made sense. There's a strong rebellion movement that a new Jedi of his potential could help with. There was seemingly only Vader & the Emperor to contend with. Luke, as Vader's son could be a major threat to him. On the other hand & where we were in this story over the first 2 episodes, there's no significant rebellion that Ben is aware of. Squads of Inquisitors are roaming around hunting down & killing Jedi. Anakin is dead as far as Ben knew. Not only that, the show makes very clear that he's given up hope. He says "the fight is lost", "the time of the Jedi is over". He can see how dangerous it is for Jedi, with one of them being strung up in the town. So why would he want to make Luke a target & risk his life by training him? He tells that other Jedi to hide & live a normal life, but then he argues with Owen about letting Luke do exactly that. Is this some new prophecy bollocks that he's bought into? Not sure I'd buy that.

Second issue. The early episodes suggest that Leia's parents have made great efforts to keep her away from the attention of the Empire. Her jerk cousin mentions she hasn't been allowed off-world. Bail won't allow her abduction to become known by using other means to get her back, bcs he doesn't want that attention on her. Fair enough, but then he tells her she'll be going to university & then will become an Imperial Senator. Which she does, as we know later. Seems to be a contradiction there to me. Going to great pains to keep her away from the Imperials, then throw her into the midst of the Empire.

    lol no.
The above would have been more likely with Lucas still in charge; he's the one who kept tinkering with the films. Literally the only thing that Disney-owned Lucasfilm has done with the OT is release a 4K version of it. What you're doing here is imagining a worst-case scenario, disliking what you've imagined, and projected it at Lucasfilm.

Also, where did you see Obi-Wan or Vader do any crazy acrobatic moves in this episode?

Maclunkey and the other alterations that were made inbetween the BD release and the Disney era digital release probably happened while GL still owned Star Wars.
KK has explicitly stated that she won't touch George's films because they're his.

Prior to the events of this show Luke was his only focus. He was literally the only thing keeping him going. He had real issues inside and Luke was his only hope and motivation. Beyond Luke and his hope that he must be trained in time he thinks all Jedi are better staying out of the fight at this point in time. The events of this series, which haven’t yet completed I might add, are likely to change his opinion and give him more hope for the Rebellion’s chances and for the future of force users who aren’t Sith around the galaxy. Luke, however, remains his best hope of all to defeat his former apprentice now that he’s seen how powerful he has become, how evil he now is, and witnessed the extent of the Empire’s reach and power more recently.

It was Vader. He Force pushes Obi-Wan out of the fire which also extinguishes it and tells his men to bring Obi-Wan to him. He doesn’t want to kill Obi-Wan just yet. He wants him to suffer more.

I’d also like to add that once Vader realizes Kenobi himself has allies its entirely possible his twisted mind imagined new weaknesses (an apprentice, possible girlfriend, new friends, etc,) that Kenobi may have gained over the past 9 years and all of those are new developments that would interest Vader because those are things he’d love to take away from Kenobi to ensure he experiences loss and suffering like he did. He faced Kenobi. He saw he was mostly a shell of who he last was and willing to die. He realized it didn’t give him the vengeance he craves so he’s going even darker. What else can he learn about and take away from Kenobi that he values more than his own life?

Yep. He even says to Obi-Wan that this is just the beginning of his suffering. Clearly, he intends to keep an eye on him and hit him where it hurts when he least expects it.

So just seen elsewhere that it hasn't been hayden in the Vader Suit.

They have 2 guys playing him.

One for normal scenes and one for the fight scenes.

All the hype from Disney has been about Hayden in the suit?

The show isn’t over. There’s more time ahead for Hayden. We saw him in the vision also and in the bacts tank. And it is Hayden in the suit sometimes. There’s always been some stunt doubles in Star Wars during combat scenes.

I think episode 3 of Obi had the same problem as “The Tragedy” episode on Mando. Both looked like they were shot in the hills of California/Nevada due to the location. As a result it sometimes can look a bit like a fan film.

The only difference is the fandom menace weren’t review bombing that episode and it’s at a 9.1/10 on IMDb.

Apparently the scene of him on the throne etc wasn't him.

Both actors are 6'7 apparently and Hayden is much smaller

There’s also a decidedly American viewpoint when criticizing US locations like that as fan made or low grade. For some of us who live in other parts of the world, and who haven’t visited these states as often (or at all) and whose own geography seems different… it impacts others differently. While this mining planet did seem Earth-like to me the color scheme of the vegetation which had this muted brown meeting an almost blue/purple aspect to it was unlike anything I’d seen in my own country. I imagine if I lived in Croatia content set on Dubrovnik would seem a bit cornier to me than they did the first time I laid eyes on the place on Game of Thrones and thought they’d somehow built a huge set that was more realistic than anything I’d seen. it wasn’t until several episodes later I learned Dubrovnik was an actual place. And he did mean that. Just maybe not the way you'd think.

But he also seemed to alter his plan.

It’s not just an American perspective.
I’m personally getting annoyed with seeing Nevada again or wherever they’re filming at. I kinda wished they CGI-ed this last planet a bit. Because at this point I wouldn't be surprised if Clint Eastwood popped up in the background.

America has geographic diversity, but the Nevada background happens to appear too distinctively American due to Spaghetti western films. They could try to change the filming location, that would be much appreciated.

The worst thing about this show, is that at the end of each episode Disney+ recommends I watch Phantom Menace

Going by the leaks, yes we will see more of his face. But i wonder whether him going on the publicity tour was worth it for the amount of facetime he gets.
