I think it's probably just that their planet is boring and not a useful stop for space travel or trade. A "you're on the planet that it's farthest from" type of thing.

They're going after One-Eyed Willy's treasure, that's bound to be more exciting then the Goon Docks in a GFFA.

Yeah, I don't think there's too much to read into it. Basically they're from a small town in the middle of nowhere, and don't realize that not everyone knows where it is.
I don’t think it means their home is some mysterious planet cut off from the rest of the galaxy.

Most people, even in Sweden, couldn't find my hometown on a map either.

It could be, but I seem to remember seeing something indicating there was something off about the planet. But that may have just been something I saw in an election-induced fever dream.

Listen, I'm just going to outright say it: we know who those kids' space suburb parents would have voted for.

Personally, the Dumbo-esque creature gives me the willies. If he is a product of these suburbs, maybe the place was hidden for a reason?

The planet can not be that cut off because there are several different alien species there. That's not to exclude the possibility that the aliens have been shipped in like Janet Airlines.

There seems to be some type of 'big brother' element to the town though, the omni-present droids seem very interested in the conversations the residents have. Notice as well that the speeders are like slot-racers, they can't go off the beaten track. I believe that is the reason that Fern is in trouble with the Proctor.

Maybe nothing but the central spire in the town gets a lot of 'background' air time, even in the trailers.

LFL are censoring any clues dropped that point to the home planet being sinister in some way. So there is something....

If the planet was cut off before the creation of the Empire, then these well-known Alien Species (Minus Neel) make sense, the republic was integrated. Aliens and Humans lived together, Itharians make sense, so do all the other common Alien species.

You never know how integrated the universe is based on Imperial times and the Prequels never really showed the common people into the Galaxy. Anything after the OT will have the Imperial taint on it, meaning some segregation still exists.

It appears sophisticated, technologically advanced, has order to the citizens lives. They're well governed, there must be adequate law authority. But with all that for kids entering their teens, it's down right boring and kids being kids, they go looking for adventure. What if this is Chandrila and LFL have used this series to introduce it before having it make a far more bigger role in upcoming film and TV?

So I’ve barely followed this show at all. I know none of the leaks. None of the rumors. I just watched the trailer. It didn’t really do anything for me, but neither did the accolade trailer really so we’ll see how it goes. Neither did the trailer for andor

I am personally a little divided on the project. For one I like the story of kids lost in space and I think it could be amusing and if done well … with good character dynamics and all that … I think this could be enjoyable as a smaller tale of what else happened in the galaxy.

The entire trailer and what we know so far feels a little as if they had a script written for earth and then converted to be a Star Wars story. Yet, I hope that will be mostly the beginning. Once they get going we should see some real SciFi kids action. Anyway, I as always remain mildly optimistic.

Didn't see anything to suggest that "the script was written for earth and then converted to Star Wars". Just because they have a space-version of US-like suburbs popping of for a bit in a trailer, doesn't somehow make the story written for earth. It just means that they didn't quite manage to get as much of a fantasy-vibe during production as they may have wanted to. Hardly the first time that things looked a bit too earth-like in a Star Wars project.

You sure the “something off about the planet” was about the planet in the trailer and not THE planet we are living on? That may explain your, correct, feeling :p
EDIT: anyway, if this is the premise they are going for I like it and I am all here for it!

This series deserve a much better marketing, yesterday on D23 Brazil, Marvel shows a lot, and Lucasfilm, the biggest thing was the Andor 2 date release, and a new scene of SC, but nothing that huge...

They just released a new trailer a few days ago, what exactly do you expect them to do?

D23 has never done much in regard to Lucasfilm, and that applies for ther international versions of it as well. In part because Lucasfilm has its own conventions in a way the others don't really have. D23 Brazil really isn't the place you can expect to see much new.
You can't complain about Lucasfiulm not doing something everytime Marvel shows something new, but then ignore when Lucasfilm drops something while the rest of Disney does not. Even more so when you consider that Lucasfilm has far fewer projects than Marvel or Disney in general.

The bit where the lead's dad is looking very nervous while some of the creepy local droids look in his direction has been noted by some to give off some sinister vibes.

Seems like kids are going to protect their home from pirates, if there is indeed an oppressive government, it is probably only effective at controlling local peaceful populace, not fighting outside threats.

But do you think this scene is still on their planet or they end up somewhere where the population in threatened by the pirates and they help? I would expect they get off their world pretty early in the serie?
Anyway I am all in for the concept of nice suburbs hiding an oppressing government with no personal freedom, that might also explain why the dad seems so angry/worried at the fact his kid is being sent to the principal, any deviation from the norm could get you "noticed" and then get you under observation...
Hope that is the premise I would surely like it!
    Can't wait!

The kids are "lost" and "lost" usually does not denote home.

They are clearly taking part in a reenactment of the Partisans against the Empire in Jedha City. Most young kids like that stuff.
