I suspected Gul Travis wasn't really what he seemed to be all along. I'm glad that the true message of hope has spread across the galaxy now.

Well it will be another 4 years before the Death Star is destroyed and even after that the empire is still around after Sheev dies.

On a more positive thought, it's 7+ years worth of opportunities to shoot stormtroopers in the face.[face_dancing]

Extreme gravity = no scientific basis and forever a single biome. Young planet = scientific basis and not forever a single biome.

Extreme gravity in terms of another body pulling on it actually does have a scientific basis - see Jupiter's moon Io in our own solar system.

The problem is that there's no way a planet could be that close to a gas giant without becoming a moon of it.

(And of course extreme radiation, surface temperature, and lack of a breathable atmosphere, but come on it's a space fantasy. :p )

There's already a precedent for LEGO doing sets of EU material:

I get the impression science was not so much a problem, when Star Trek was still a working thing and the sci fi fans could go there.

Star Trek -- or so I heard from a cellular biology professor that was a Trekkie -- did have physicists that were consulted regarding the science behind it. Granted, there was still plenty of techno babble. But Star Wars aside from containing technology that we regard as futuristic, just seems 100% derived from Lucas' imagination regardless of whether or not it could have a scientific basis or not. And there's nothing wrong with that. I mean you're not going to focus plasma with a crystal, that doesn't work. You could focus a laser, but you're not going to see a laser and it's just going to go on indefinitely. There was a program with Michio Kaku about how to make a real world lightsaber, and how it is explained in the EU or TCW is just nonsense, but it's fantasy. I think it's pretty clear that they are just intended to be "laser swords" and "laser guns," considering that's what George Lucas always called them. The EU went the direction of trying to say they are plasma weapons, to show why blasts seemed to carry momentum, why the saber beams were of finite length and visible, etc. But at the same time they curiously decided that lightsabers require crystals, which doesn't make any sense. Or there's the Death Star superLASER, which involves a bunch of beams, again focused by kyber CRYSTALS (which again implies this isn't plasma) converging at a point, then changing direction to be fired as one superbeam at a target. There was a special on the technology of Star Wars (I think on the history channel) that again points out that this is impossible, the beams would just pass through eachother and keep going in whatever direction they were fired. I think about as much thought went into it as Stan Lee deciding that gamma radiation can turn someone into an unstoppable force when they get angry.

That by no means suggests that it's bad or that it's not fun. But trying to argue the merits of science in Star Wars is extremely futile, IMO.

In fact, I'd say trying to argue the merits of science in any fantasy extremely futile. Sure, there might be some things based around science, but there would still be things you couldn't explain with science.

In terms of the UK and Rebels, Boomerang was showing adverts galore for it from early this morning. Haven't seen one since the episode finished though, but I'm sure Disney channels are still advertising it. As for the finale, about three days before we can get even a hint at what's in store with the next Rebel Recon.

Ezra's mop still looks pretty plastic sometimes but the lighting has improved greatly since the beginning of the series.

New preview for a Celebration print:

So, a hint that the crew visits Tatooine's Mos Eisley? Maybe, maybe not. Could just be a cool print.

But a closer look reveals what looks to be Luke Skywalker (I'm surprised I don't see Ben Kenobi keeping watch from a distance) checking out an Imperial propaganda poster (complete with rebel phoenix), Han and Chewie admiring the Ghost, Ahsoka Tano looking over her shoulder, McQuarrie prototype characters and even a B'omarr monk (pre-spider).

The Outrider is there, too. And there's a re-purposed B2 super battle droid floating on by.

    Stormtroopers abound.

And then... just above the Celebration logo, who do we see?

Why it's Droids favorites Thall Joben, Jord Dusat and Mungo Baobab (who is communicating with Artoo and Threepio via hologram), all astride the White Witch!

    How cool is that?!? :D

I know I'm not the only fan clamoring for some of these cooler characters from Droids to get some love from Lucasfilm. I'd love to think this is a hint that they might even be canonized in the near-future.
