I got a copy through my job on Friday & read it this past weekend.

I don't think it's spoiler material to say that the reference above to Mara being a Jedi Master must be a typo-- Mara is introduced as "Mara Jade Skywalker, Jedi Knight."

That said, I enjoyed this book very much. Had a couple of minor quibbles with things, but overall it was the best SW read I've had since the NJO started. It was a great story-- had more of a flavor of a mystery than any previous SW book-- and Zahn's tribute to a certain fan group made me smile. I very much liked his "Imperial Commander", too-- he's very cool.

Am debating buying this in hardcover & not waiting until paperback comes out to purchase.

You mean the 501st Imperial stormtrooper group or whatever? Otherwise known as Vader's Fist?

It was mentioned in Fool's Bargain. I'm surprised no one caught that.

I did. There was a thread about them (just being heavy with the sarcasm here)

So the Imperial is a new guy? (possibly Sarreti?)

I was refering to their current status. Mara is not a Master in this book. On the Fel ?
Hey, it's a big Galaxy out there and so some folks have big familes too. I will say this book had some great twists! It's just a plain old FUN read.

Is it for sale at book stores right now?

we'll see if Booksamillion is really shipping it early - I placed an order just a short while ago and it did say "usually ships within 24 hours". I also just cancelled my original PREORDER from walmart.com so we'll see which happens first.

*is jealous of those who have it*

Even if it ships tomorrow and I get it tuesday in the mail, I won't be able to read it until later that afternoon/early evening.

Re: posting more of the plot--
Since the opening post says not to post spoilers on this spoiler thread, I'm leery of saying anything beyond the vaguely worded opinion I gave already. PM me if you've got a specific question I guess.

I think it's okay to say that it's set 3 years after Vision of the Future.

Zahn does some spackle-and-paste to fix gaps created by other authors, IMO. I didn't notice any ret-conning to make his own characters greater; on the contrary, Mara is questioning her-- morals, I suppose? Karrde is also shown to be fallible.

I agree that this book really was a fun read with great twists as the others have said. However, I figured out who the saboteur(s) were very early simply because I'd read Zahn's Conquerors trilogy.

Is it too much of a spoiler to say that this book had a very cool ground fight, as opposed to the space dogfights we're used to seeing? I really enjoyed seeing another form of battle.

And I'm afraid I don't know what you mean by "Luke or Zhuke", sorry.

Another form? All we've been seeing are ground fights.

Maybe I'm reading too much clone wars stuff.

Ahh, you're right-- I haven't been reading Clone Wars stuff, I'm thinking of my usual fare of the X-wing books. And while there were groundfights in NJO, this one in SQ was much longer & more detailed, more along the lines of Stackpole's drawn-out starfighter battles.

It wasn't too bad a read, and I do have to agree that it was interesting to see the major battles being ground-battles. Not a single space one really.

Only thing disappointing was some of the stuff dealing with the Outbound Flight Project. But since there is the request for no spoilers until February (weird since this is a spoiler marked thread ?[face_plain]) I can't say too much more.

Yes/no. It depends on what you're meaning. The battles are ground-based, but none really take place on a planet per se.

And to answer the question you posted above, there are no walkers.

NOTE: No MAJOR spoilers until 01-February.

The idea is that since we KNOW that several people on the boards got pre-release copies, there're more people with full info out there (rather than one or two people) -- so rather than spoil the whole book (and thus piss off Del Rey, most likely) ahead of time, I'm trying to limit the spoilers until just before the book is released.

However, spoilers ARE allowed now. Just not big ones. :)

To those who have the advance copies - what is the exact page count on the book? Walmart.com says 384 pages.......but I think its probably closer to 400, right?

    Thanks. :)

Okay... one question for now - unless it's a spoiler, can anyone say who the Imperial Commander is?

Do I read REBADAMS7 right in implying that it's a member of the sprawling Fel family?

And (again, if it's not a spoiler) does Peita Aabe from Force Heretic figure at all?

    :D
