That also means The Mandalorian has room to flex timeline wise, ergo we could have episodes that take place in the timeline as seen in 7min sneak peak and as close to TFA period.

The Aftermath novels dealt with it somewhat. A gunslinger named Cobb Vanth declared himself sheriff, found a set of Mandalorian armor (that may or may not have been Boba Fett's) and tried to clean up the gangs who were warring for control.

According to Dave I remember reading that the Darksaber is not as strong or as good as a standard lightsaber namely when in the hands of a trained lightsaber warrior. Its why its style/design was limited. And part of the reason why Darth Maul discarded its use by the time of Rebels where its more a trophy type of thing - and apparently much earlier since he uses a variant of his Sith double-bladed lightsaber on Mandalore post Son of Dathomir.

Seems he used the darksaber in SOD cause of leading Death Watch and Almec's retrieval of it, but comic book cover of issue 4 also featured a double-bladed magic-saber that Maul was supposed to use in the story - but it did not make it into the comic cause of time constraints. Even during "The Lawless" Maul only uses the darksaber as more of a backup weapon.

Finally jumping in to the discussion. I was there for the panel! This looks on the same level of excellence as the spinoff films. Color me very excited.

Was fortunate enough to sit nearly front row at the panel (was asked to fill out some empty VIP seats, lucky me!) and man did the footage deliver. It might be hard to tell with blurry cam footage, but the show (despite being obviously unfinished) looks so cinematic at a stage when most films don't even look it! I loved the production design and vibe of the show, the action in the trailer shown after the behind the scenes reel was surprisingly impressive. I loved the IG droid going to town, and the Mandalorian's fight scenes looked really cool. Seeing John Knoll and Doug Chiang work on the models and film them in the basement of ILM not only was a cool story, but LOOKED amazing! You could have fooled me that I was looking at CGI, and I loved how they said they researched and analyzed all the camera angles and movements of the OT so the ship scenes felt familiar and natural.

That being said, what will bring this show to the next level will be the story. The effects, visuals, and tone are all there and seem to be nailed. But what will be the emotional crux of the story, what will be the hook? I can't wait to see that, and can't wait to fall in love with this cast of characters. I also like seeing the show will have a sense of humor. Taika as the IG droid, Bill Burr as a merc, the roasted Salacious Crumb-creature all seem to indicate that there will be some dry, albeit goofy humor in the show which is great. If this is going to be a Star Wars western, make it less like Hostiles or Unforgiven, and more like the Good, Bad, and the Ugly, which had some well executed humor.

Haven't posted on here in a long time (... a long time :p ), but I just have to say that out of all of the upcoming Star Wars media coming out in the near future, I'm by far most excited about The Mandalorian. I've wanted a street level live action show set in the Star Wars universe since I was a little kid watching the OT on VHS with a blanket wrapped around me like a Jedi's robe. Something were we see more of the day-to-day lives of these people.

So, whee! November can't come soon enough!

I am going to watch the panel at some point but exercise restraint over the leaked footage as I would bet good money there will be a proper trailer at either comic con or D3 expo in the summer

And I will continue to exercise restraint because it seems like Canada won't get Disney+ until first quarter of 2020! (if we're lucky) So I have to be really really restrained dammit.

I also think the Mando will be generally more humorous. It’ll have more silly aliens and stuff, while the Cassian show will have an overall harder spy thriller tone. So yeah. John Ford vs. LeCarre. :)

I don't know. The footage from the panel looked pretty serious. I don't want a lot of comedy in this show. Just bring on the killing. I mean come on, they're bounty hunters.

We’ll see. There’s still some humor in there. Including the Kowakian monkey-lizard on a spit, and the Gonk droid answering the door. Anyway, I think it only will be a difference of degreed.

Thought I would make a list of all the things seen in the footage that are of note in terms of aliens, vehicles, costumes, planets, etc. Keep in mind this is just off top of my head and from rewatching blurry footage:

    Characters:
    - Incinerator Stormtrooper (wearing the same armor created for the Force Unleashed games)
    - Blaster-wielding Jawas
    - Gonk droid
    - Salacious Crumb's brethren being roasted alive.
    - IG-11 (IG-series droid)
    - Devaronian
    [IMG]
    - purple Twi'lek female
    - Abednedo (I think) in the cantina on the snowy planet.
    - Death Troopers behind Giancarlo Esposito's character (who also seems to be wearing some kind of death trooper armor without a helmet)
    - RA-7 protocol droid-style character (probably heavily modified) that seems to be some kind of bounty hunter/merc.
    - Rodian (one is orange like the one from Solo)
    - The former Imperial Scientist character seems to be wearing something similar to Galen Erso.
    - Obviously several standard Stormtroopers, though the ones protecting Herzog's character seem almost feral, with their dirty armor and loose body language.
    - ROTJ-style Scout troopers with their accompanying speeder bikes.
    - Several Mandalorians seen that aren't the main character. Several with different helmet styles in concept art and in trailer with clips from show. Many Mando helmets shown being made by prop department unpainted, except for one painted brown with yellow stripes.
    - The Mandalorian definitely progresses in armor, seems to wear much shinier version of his armor later on, reminiscent of Jango's.
    - Dewbacks! Ridden on by a Mandalorian with a different look to the title character, but it is concept art so doesn't mean it is a different Mando. Major Boba in Holiday Special vibes.
Also Mando is wielding a trench gun style shotgun.
    - Blurrgs seen in concept art, along with an alien that I don't recognize but looks very similar to Maz Kanata.
    - Trandoshan-looking alien (doesn't look like Bossk, more orange and different eyes)
    - This is very interesting to me, and will expand in planets/locations section... what looks to be native Ugnaughts.
    - R2-unit astromechs
    - concept art of starfighter pilot that looks very cool but different. Like if you mashed up a TIE fighter pilot, X-wing pilot, stormtooper helmet, and US Air Force pilot helmet from the 60's all together, and painted a jawed teeth design into the oxygen mask. Looks more like something from Apocalypse Now then from a previous Star Wars movie.
    - R5-unit astromech
    - TT-8L/Y7 gatekeeper droid serving similar function as one at Jabba's palace.
    - EV-series supervisor droids working as bartenders in a cantina (wonder if they serve their kind...)
    - Bill Burr as a mercenary!
    - Someone mentioned Zuckuss, but couldn't quite find him...

    Planets/Locations:
    - Some kind of snowy/arctic style planet. Large flat wasteland with lone settlement that houses at least some kind of watering hole/cantina.
    - Sand planet that is almost definitely Tatooine (due to presence of Sandcrawlers, Jawas, dewbacks, moisture vaporator imagery, etc).
    - Rocky planet, with star-shaped town built into the rocks. Could be same as sand planet (which is probably Tatooine).
    - Some kind of space station/hanger floating in orbit of a planet that seems to have large oceans.
    - Some type of Mos Eisley style town
    - Another Mos Eisley style town, but buildings look a bit different to my eyes... could be same location, but I get feeling this one is one the volcanic-looking planet that has been seen in set photos.
    - Blurrg seen in concept art, probably shipped from off-world but maybe we see Ryloth?
    - I mentioned before native Ugnaughts, well there is concept art that looks to me like rows of Ugnaught natives. I say natives because they are wielding clubbed weapons and axes, while wearing almost Game of Thrones-style leather clothing with top-knot hair. They are rushing in formation out of a forest and into swampy grasslands, braving blaster-fire. In the EU, their home world of Gentes (a swampy forest planet) was taken over by the Empire and they were enslaved. Could we be seeing this obscure planet? MSW also reported Ugnaughts would be in the show, though we all probably expected Ugnaughts as seen in ESB. Perhaps we could see them in their native environment, on their home world of Gentes? Keep in mind this is concept art however.
    - Mandalorian fights Gina Carano's character of Cara Dune in what reminds me of WWI style trenches? Maybe I am seeing things here though, but it looks like this is same planet as the black rock, volcanic one.
    - Some kind of planet with grass plains.

    Vehicles:
    - Very cool looking star-fighter that looks like a cross between a Colin Cantwell X-Wing and SR-71 Black Bird (this vehicle was only seen in concept art however).
    [IMG] [IMG]
    - Sandcrawler
    - Razorcrest (Mando's ship)
    - Scout trooper speeder bikes
    - Outer rim speeder bike
    [IMG]
    - Concept art of landspeeder, looks like Luke's but bigger rear engines and more red. Parked next to the Razorcrest.
    - Blue-tinted OT TIE fighter seen both crashed and flying.
    - Footage showed a starfighter chasing and shooting at the Razorcrest in space. Too hard to tell what type of ship it is, but reminded me of X-Wing or ship I mentioned at top of the list that looked like SR-71.
    - A couple of shuttle-style ships that were too blurry or cut off from camera to tell what ships they were.

Genre archetypes is fine. SW works best when it's paying homage to other films and genres. There's a fine line between that and cliche and the Maker, GL, was always v good at walking that tightrope. "I've got a bad feeling about this" is a prime example as it's done with a nod and a wink and I hope this series continues that as it heavily plays with the Western tropes. Cliche is an easy trap to fall into.

It's all cliche at a certain point though. Just depends on how broad a brush you want to paint with.

"Guy with no name but a huge reputation comes into town, shady type gives him a mark to seek out for a fat payday, more revelations come out along the way" is about as "cliche" as it gets. That's also okay, and not really much different to "total-nobody farm kid gets drawn into a big adventure out of his comfort zone by a mysterious old wizard dude", it's just classic storytelling.

This series ticks all the nostalgia boxes. I wonder if we’ll get any mention of the wider galaxy including Luke Skywalker.

Yeah but GL took an ancient formula and put his own original spin on it. I'm counting on The Mandolorian writers and directors to take a tired idea and make something original too. I'm sure they know that's the challenge.

My thoughts exactly. I feel a back to basic theme for this. Has An original trilogy type feel.

New user by the way. Hyped to hear everyone's thoughts on everything Star Wars.

    Awesome! Thank you for sharing.

It really does look and feel like Rogue One. Which is, you know, amazing.

However, I do hope that sort-of-Trandoshan-looking fella in the sizzle reel isn't Bossk. That would be disappointing, as it was far too human, yet you can see them channelling the Trandoshan design. It looked like something from 90s Star Trek.

    This is great.

There's definitely a Zuckuss-looking character flying a ship in space. A close-up shot of him from the front. Looks like it could be the same species as Zuckuss, at least, as his head seems a lot skinnier (and the breathing apparatus looks different). It's a dude with a bug head, basically.

ETA: You can see it in the trailer (the one with the Herzog voiceover) right before the shot of what looks to be an Ugnaught riding a Blurgg.

ETA2: Also, the Kowakian monkey lizard isn't being roasted alive in the footage. It's skinned and already dead. This show won't be that dark, I don't think! :)

See it now, don't know how I missed it! Doesn't look like Zuckuss to me, but could be same species.

And true! Could be skinned and then roasted alive though... Bolton style!
