From what I have heard today on various news channels about the Superdome:

It was built only to withstand against a level 2 hurricane and has never been tested. [hr][/blockquote]

    Lovely.

Edit: Or not. Just realized that I'm thinking of a different building.

With all the coverage, I'm sure they've gotten some things wrong. Either way, I'm not very confident in its structure against the odds of what we've been hearing. I'll be praying for everyone inside...and out.

Well, just heard from the news they expect the field of the Super Dome to flood. If nothing else happens to the building, the stranded can have a pool hurricane party at least. ;)

I'd say your username sums up the chances of that happening.

They're saying that if it continues on its path and directly hits New Orleans, it may render nearly 1 million people homeless. :(

The path also leads up through the Ohio Valley(my area), where hurricane rains always bring tremendous flooding. Last September we were under a lot of water. I can only imagine what we'll be facing mid-week. I just hope for now they get all those people on the streets of New Orleans to safety soon.

By the time it reaches that far north, you should expect severe thunderstorm, essentially, JMC. Possibly tornados.

There is a school of thought that this thing might be at it's absolute peak right now, and it could begin to weaken a bit before it hits, but we won't know for a few hours yet.

Wow...this is going to be crazy. My thoughts go out to those in New Orleans.

And I do hope the usual group of people who try to go outside during hurricanes gains some sense...with these kind of winds, forget getting hit by debris; they could be debris.

    One million people?!

    I'll be praying...

O Heavenly Father, all the elements of nature obey Your commands, including hurricanes. Calm the storms that threaten us and turn our fear of Your power into praise of Your goodness.

Grant this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.

    Amen.

    This is pretty major...

If it stays at it's current stregnth, I doubt abybody could go outside. Not only would they almost certainy be picked up and blown away, but sustained winds over 160mph are enough to strip off your skin.

Not to mention that the raindrops will feel like someone is shooting a BB gatling gun at you.

It would be like standing inside a tornado that went on for hours.

He's already said that he and his crew will be inside a big coliseum that can withstand winds of up to 200 MPH.

Jim Cantore is a bad ass for doing what he does and putting himself right in the middle of the storm to get us the story. I enjoy watching him every time he's on.
