It seems to me that 99% of Star Wars fans are thoroughly ungrateful and are never satisfied with anything they're given.

I don't think you deserve to have the original trilogy on DVD in any form. If Lucas were to completely stop the future release of all Star Wars memorabilia (books, comics, toys, games...everything), it would be no more than you deserve.

EDIT: Oops. I just saw that an earlier post by appleseed has said pretty much the same thing.

EDIT NO. 2: Even if the original versions of the films were released on DVD, you wouldn't buy them anyway, would you? I mean, you wouldn't want the evil, capitalist, money-grabbing Lucas to get a cent of your money. Right?

Who cares about his crappy books, toys and posters? He can throw all that in the toilet for all I care. (mainly PT related stuff, I should add) This is about the O-OT on DVD. Stay on target.

What movies do you like or don't like? Don't like LOTR? Well, you're an ungrateful whiner then. I hope Peter Jackson takes away all his merchandise from you. You deserve nothing.

Hate The Matrix? Well, I hope the Wachowskis take away all their merchanise. You deserve nothing.

Of course, those two examples don't make any more sense then yours. You are obviously just sore because people aren't fondling Lucas name as you would like. You'd also have people think Lucas has never made a bad decision in his life.

If you had read one of my earlier posts, you would know that I think that the special editions were not one of Lucas's best ideas. However, I'm not going to bitch and whine about it for the rest of my life. I've got my VHS copies, and if I wanted to, I could always get hold of the laserdiscs on ebay.

And this petition will achieve nothing.

    Wrong.

It's not about the money, for me. I don't begrudge him the money I spend on Star Wars stuff I like.

    Yay capitalism. :p

Well Lucas shouldn't even bother making E3 then if we're all so ungrateful. I didn't realize it was such a chore. [face_plain]

A common complaint of some people it to lump people who the O-OT in with the Han Shoots First people and the SEs Suck people and the I Hate Jar Jar people and the Ewoks Exist to Sell Toys people, etc. I guess it's not conceivably possible for someone to actually not dislike the films and want the originals, huh?

Yeah, we all suck. I don't know why George even bothers with Star Wars. Every film he makes does poorly at the box office and is critically lambasted by fans to no end. He should just quit now. 99% of his fans have turned on him.

Look, if you're going to complain about the hardcore fanboy whiners, go ahead, but don't lump me in there with them and also pretend that most people here are that way. This is one issue, and one issue only. You don't see me deriding Lucas about the SEs or the OT in the other threads. I like his films just fine and he can change them all he wants. Just don't discard the originals.

    question,

would it be illegal to copy the laserdisc to dvd, and distribute them for free, i know that would be expensive, but if someone was rich enough and wanted to,

say send free O-OT DVDs to everyone who signed the petetion, say a week before sep 21?

i mean since they dont sell the laserdiscs anymore,

    hmm...

oh and to the people who come to this thread, to just make fun of the people here discussing the petition

go to the thread thats for your opinions, lets all agree to dissagree, and leave each other alone.

you stay on your side and well stay on ours,

or should we lock this thread and make two?

one for fanboys who want O-OT

and one for fanboys who want SE-OT

cause all you guys calling me and others that share my opinion fanboys...

i got news for you, we are all star wars freaks for being here almost everyday, so just because your opinion is different doesnt make you cooler or smarter,
and it doesnt grant you immunity from the names you dish out, cause if were fanboys, so are you.

arguing over opinions has never brought anything of substance to these threads...

go to the does ani kill padme thread on the 3SA and youll see what i mean, the same 4 or 5 people are there everyday flaming each other, and no one in a month has changed there minds... poor anakin_girl, she gets so heated and shes there every day, arguing... for nothing.

so kids heres a lesson for us all

    debateing=good

    arguing on a forum=stupid

oh yeah and dont even hint at any bad words i used one letter from a three letter word and got my...
    rearend banned for 24hrs.

oh, and if you are arguing with someone and start to get close to making your point, make sure the other person isnt friends with a mod on that board LOL!!!

cant we all just get along?

ps. anyone who doesnt think like me is a big fat doodie head!!! :0

and not to mention flat out wrong!!!!!

    J.K.!!! ;)

    LOL!!! :)

peace, love and happy V.D. to you all!!!

[Sio Bibble]"This petition will gain you nothing. We're a democracy, the people have decided." [/Sio Bibble]

You SE critics simply can't be surprised at all this. It's not like Lucas led anyone to believe the O-OT was ever coming out on any medium after 1995.

If you don't want or like the DVDs, don't buy them. I mean, how complicated of a concept is that?

I say petition away. Send letters to Lucasfilm. Write your Congressman. Be unhappy. Throw a tantrum. Complain 'till you're Toydarian blue.

Just don't expect Lucas to respond. At least not now.

And yet, through this same petition method, he has thankfully backtracked on a few things too, you seem to forget, royalguard.

When you see a dent in the armor, you go for it, not back away. This is a critical moment.

I want to apologize for my hot-headed post at the top of this page. I admit, due to the early morning hour, I chomped at that bait. I do not sincerely mean that Peter Jackson or the Wachowskis should take away their merchandise just because you didn't like the films.

oldken is right about a great many things. Nice post. RogueScribner is also right about not lumping people into groups. There are PT fans and OT fans who would like to see the O-OT live on DVD.

DarthToeJam, we know it may not get us what we want, you are right, but at least it was worth the struggle (even it others don't like hearing it).

even it others don't like hearing it

JW00, I can only speak for myself in saying my main complaint is the tone this discussion sometimes takes: namely calling Lucas a "jerk" or a "bonehead" etc. I see that as soooo counterproductive to what pro O-OT people want to achieve. Lucas isn't going to change his mind if fans are calling him names.

(i am concentreiting on the here and now)

and i havent called him names,

and i would still buy the special editions,

    i never said i wouldnt.

i own three sets of SE VHS tapes

i just want to have the original version that i consider a work of art on its own.

and i am 100% for the supposed diffinitive archival editions (SDAE-OT... LOL ;) )

i think by 2006-2007 theyll have the technowlogy to do them right, and even improve the look of the O-PT (gettin kinda carried away with the ot pt suff)

i never said that the movies couldnt be improved to link the six i just said that the se isnt the best they could do,

stuff like jabba in ANH_SE, im sorry, that is sub par graphics at best, even for 97, (jurassic park... hello)

tpm jabba looks exactly the same as rotj jabba,

im just sayin if the se is the final version, we could do without that scene, cause it screws up the whole attempt at linking all 6, but if they fixed it in the SDAE-OT then the scene would be a good adition, it just looks out of place. good test run on improving, but to say that the O-OT wasnt finished and now it is, to an old school fan, is just... well, lame.

and stuff like the infamous crappy ANH sabers, ive said before, things like that should have been of more importance than some of the added scenes that they didnt have the tech to make look right.

thats it no need to argue, its just an oppinion i am not trying to turn you to the dark side or anything

It's all about marketing. GL wants everyone to keep starving for more and then 10 years from now, he'll throw out the classic OT on DVD to rekindle the Star Wars magic. Perhaps he will be down on his luck after realizing what sacrilege the prequels are, or maybe his ruining the next Indiana Jones will send him pining for his glory days of movie-making: the original (and that's original original) trilogy. He'll release them and everyone will praise his name as before.

would it be illegal to copy the laserdisc to dvd,

No - it would be legal to make a "backup" copy on DVD for your own use.

    and distribute them for free,

That's the illegal part. You're only allowed to have a copy if you have the original. There's some question about people who have one version of the O-OT and try to get a DVD copy made from a different version, or from a different copy of the same version - the legality on that is not entirely clear.

However, handing out free copies of Star Wars to everyone who wants one - including those who haven't ever purchased a copy - is blatantly illegal. (Say hi to Lucas' lawyers for me. :p)

If you don't want or like the DVDs, don't buy them. I mean, how complicated of a concept is that?

It isn't; what's complicated is finding some way to own good-quality copies of what we want - in a format that won't wear out too quickly.

Why does it bother SE fans if some fans are trying to get the O-OT on DVD? None of us are arguing that the SE sucks. I have no problem w/ the SE. I think that a lot of the changes sucks, but most of the movie is in tack. I can watch the SE and would buy them on DVD if there is no alternative. I would just like to see the original version continue to exist.

Another question for hardcore SE fans: even if our petition attempt is completely futile, why does it bother you so much if we try to do it anyway? Just because failure is a probable outcome, doesn't mean you don't try. If you don't try, you never even have a chance period.

Elrond: The Star Wars Original Editions cannot be destroyed, Gimli son of Gloin, by any craft that we here possess. They were made in the fires of Mount Doom. Only there can they be unmade. They must be taken deep into Mordor and cast back into the fiery chasm from whence they came. One of you must do this.

Boromir: One does not simply walk into Mordor. It's black gates are guarded by more than just Orcs. There are Star Wars fans there that do not sleep, and the Internet Fanbase is ever watchful. It is a barren wasteland, riddled with fire and ash and dust...the very air you breathe is a poisonous fume. Not with ten thousand men could you do this. It is folly.

Legolas: Have you heard nothing Lord Elrond has said? The Star Wars Original Editions must be destroyed.

Gimli: And I suppose you think you're the one to do it?

Boromir: And if we fail, what then? What happens when the film going public takes back what is theirs?

Gimli: I will be dead before I see the Star Wars Original Editions in the hands of the public!

CLOSE ON: George Lucas...sound disappears as he watches in slow motion...the angry faces, the shaking fists, the accusatory fingers, his eyes move across to the Original Edition Master Prints...the hum grows louder in his head. The Master Prints fill the screen...streams of blood flow across their frames... flames flicker upon the metallic reel's surfaces.

Gandalf: Do you not understand? While we bicker among ourselves, the fan's resolve only grows! No one will escape it. You will all be destroyed, your homes burnt, your families put to the sword, the Special Edition's challenged!

CLOSE ON: George Lucas...breathing rapidly, caught in the grip of this hideous vision. With a huge effort or will, George tears his gaze from The original Edition Master Prints.

George Lucas suddenly stands...he speaks in a strong, clear voice.

George Lucas: I will take them...I will take them...I will take The Master Prints to Mordor.

Sudden silence...George looks around the room.

George Lucas: (quietly) Though...I do not know the way.

    Gandalf rises to his feet.

Gandalf: I will help you bear this burden, George Lucas, as long as it is yours to bear.

Rick McCallum: If, by my life or death, I can protect you, I will.

    (kneels before George Lucas)

Rick McCallum: (Cont'd) ...you have my sword.

Rick McCallum steps forward...followed by Legolas and Gimli.

Legolas: And you have my bow.

    Gimli: And my axe.

Boromir looks at them all then walks towards George Lucas.

Boromir: You carry the fate of us all, flanneled one.
