Jaya, Ganner is gone. I don't know many people who can survive a building collapsing on them.

Sorry. :) Forgot to hit the "Enter" key. I was horrified to see what it did. :) Thus, the edit.

Guess how much I got "Traitor" for? :D

    Close.

I got Traitor on Tuesday. I'm a member of
    Replay, the MediaPlay/Suncoast/Sam Goody/On Cue/Best
Buy club thingy, and I had a $5 gift certificate. So I
    figured, book's $6.99, I've got this certificate, I'll
only pay about $2 for the book. I get up there to the
register, hand the cashier the certificate and the
book, and she rings everything up.

    Then she said, "Twenty-six cents."

I just about fell over. My mouth dropped open, and I
barely saved myself from making stupid noises. I said,
    "Excuse me?"

    "Twenty-six cents," she repeated.

I pulled out a dollar, because I had spent my last
quarter on a food item at the last place we'd stopped.
I got seventy-four cents in change, and my book.

The book was on sale, because it was a new release,
for $5.24. Using the coupon, I only had to pay the
$0.24, plus tax. I'm still amazed.

So, uh, anyway, the brilliant author (if
you read this, Matt, this book is soooooooooooooooo
    cooooooooooooool!!!!!!!!!!!! Even though it
gave me a headache from all the thinking) is
only gonna get, what, a penny? from my
    purchase. :( :D

Come to think of it, I haven't had anything
give me a thinking-headache since I saw "The
    Matrix" for the first time.

Window_To_Future: i had to go back and read that part again. it appears i misunderstood it. i thought Ganner had caused the building (Well of the World Brain) to collapse on the Yuuzhan Vong from the inside-out. i didn't realize he was in teh way of danger. i thought the reason Jacen wanted to go save him was cuz he was afraid that there were too many Vong for him to combat. not cuz Ganner was going to be crushed.

however, a quarter of the Jedi Academy had fallen on Zekk and all he had was a severe coma, so you never know.

Motterman: actually, i think Traitor was the perfect length. i think anymore would've been overkill. Mr. Stover found the right time to stop, and i don't feel that any parts of the book were rushed.

I noticed a smiliarity between the Ganner self-sacrifice and the Anakin self-sacrifice. I mean, besides the obvious lightsaber connection, Ganner gave himself completely over to the Force. And he told Jacen to go telepathically, like Anakin did. I was wowed. And I almost started crying.

Also, the part where Jacen was thinking about Anakin, where he wasn't his brother anymore, wasn't the person he'd played with, looked after, etc., that part just brought back all the shock of "Star By Star" and- Anyway, it's rare that books make me cry. I've only read two SW books that made me feel weepy. Traitor, and SBS.

Ganner knew he was dead. Even if the Vong didn't come in, he was poisoned and lacerated and beaten and dying. He would have been dead even if he had done nothing. Instead, he did something.

Mastadge, i think Ganne still had a chance to live. he just gave himself over to the force to save Jacen, and to make sure Jacen could complete what he had to do, so that his death would bring goodness into the galaxy.

As for the book...it's good stuff. Very Dune-like in its philisophically-oriented writing. What is a hero? What is good/evil? What is human? Who am I?

My only comment is that if you knew how much the cover picture of Jacen (my icon) looks like me, you would all freak. I thought it looked a lot like me when they released the cover are a couple months ago, but looking at the actual book, the resemblance is uncanny. I wish I had a digital copy of my senior picture to show you guys a comparison.

I'm not saying this is on purpose (obviously it isn't), but a great job of the artist to create a specific, yet very generic, picture of the main character. My only thought--back me up on this if you agree--is that the artist intentionally made a semi-generic face to help readers more readily identify themselves with the main character. If anyone else think the picture looks like them, or has any thought on this, SPEAK UP!!

the portrait of Jacen on the Traitor cover is terrible. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. such as Jaina's portrait was on the cover of Dark Journey. funny, it's the same artists that designed, drawed, painted, etc. both covers. that makes me think....hmmmm......

I love the DJ cover, but the T cover is iffy. Jacen is alright, but Coruscant built up and an X-Wing?

    AnakinSolo__Lives.......

    That is way weird.........

I always thought that I looked like an older version of Anakin on the EoV Conquest cover.......

    Even other people thought so.......

I just look like a year or so older........

My hair is even longer like his.......

    weird.........

Both DJ and T covers just show an extreme lack of interest on DelRey's part if you ask me. There's absolutely nothing to either of them. Jaina in dark lipstick...and Jacen in that same lipstick.

No, they look different, Jaina looks more drugged up and sick than she should and Jacen looks in better shape than he should and where are his golden curls? Thats what I want to know, and his beard, if they're not careful he'll start to look like Obi in EPII, in other words; like Jesus. Wouldn't that be great.

I enjoyed the style. I liked getting into the head of charactersm, very deeply. I love how deep we got into Kyp. I enjoyed Jaina's attitude. I liked the pace. I enjoyed the action.

I liked all the stuff Jaina did personally, even though some of it was evil, it was cool, like getting those scientist and lowie to work for her and the wiping their brains. Thanks Reaper. :) ~TS7

I don't think I could have enjoyed a SW book anymore than I did Traitor. I loved it! I loved every syllable of it! I couldn't put it down! I finished it in under 36 hours, whis is good for considering I dont have a lot of time to read.

Star Wars is about philosophy, not action so it was nice to have a nook that blended the two together so seamlesslessly. It leaves you thinking...I can't get the gardener analogy out of my head. And Vergere's take on the Force makes more sense than anything we have seen before, and I think it matches more closely with anything GL had in mind since I, Jedi (another very philosophocal book, and now my 2nd fav.).

The Jedi Temple scene had my on the verge of tears, and Ganner's entirely Selfless act (selflessness is of the Force, and the Force is selfless) pushed me over the edge.

My rating of Traitor: 10 out of 10

    Truly phenominal book!

Note to Del Rey: KEPP HIRING STOVER!!!!

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could tell me about why Jacen can sense the Vong and why others couldn't. I'm about 50 pages into the book right now but am really curious about this. If this has already been asked (and answered) can someone kinda direct me to it? 68 pages is alot to read through. Thanks, snarf
