Damn! It changed literally just before I submitted mine. Maybe they'll do some other ship later that I can adapt this one for. I look forward to seeing what others came up with.

The new one is the covert ops trooper, another action figure. Some of the rejected shadow trooper backgrounds could probably work here with a little modification.

Oh goodie! I've been waiting for this one.

For one possible reference, there's a purple Clone Commander in the RotS Gameboy Advance game that could be related to this unit. Kenobi kills him in the Jedi Temple, after having a bit of trouble with his cluster-grenade launcher. I am very tempted to name him Vile, to return a favor... [face_mischief]

Thanks for the tip, Rogue_Follower. Any hope of a screen shot for that Gameboy Advance game?

I haven't been able to find one yet, but I'll keep looking... :(

Here's Rebelscum's gallery of the trooper, for extra reference.

Ooooh, I like the idea of a Wookiee ship. Here's mine:

The ship designs produced by Millennium Astro-Engineering were often "inspired" by the special modifications made by outlaw-techs to smuggling and pirate ships. Unfortunately, since these vessels were typically ships of the line, Millennium often incorporated the existing designs of major shipbuilders, such as Corellian Engineering Corporation, into their "exclusive" vessels. The modular system of the Yirt Corvette was nearly identical to the one found on the CR90, while its overall appearance is suspiciously similar to Mon Calamari prototype designs from the Clone Wars.

Aided by a smuggler whose ship had been "appropriated" for use as a prototype, the Rebel Alliance raided Millennium's factory on Tharkos and captured most of the Yirt production run. This was a boon to the small Alliance fleet...and saved CEC the trouble of launching a massive lawsuit against Millennium.

Crews assigned to the vessels found them to be generally inferior to the CR90, but its similarity to familiar Corellian and Mon Calamari designs made them easy to run. Many Yirts saw action during the Galactic Civil War, with the Quest II helping to cover the evacuation of D'rinba IV, and the Another Hope participating in the Battle of Endor. The ship that forever immortalized the Yirt, however, was the RS Reekvange, the expeditionary battleship commanded by Captain Kazan in Paxi Silo's popular holodramas.

The term "Outlaw-techs" is from Han Solo at Star's End, and most of the rest is a shameless attempt to insert "Flight of the Falcon" into continuity. I took Rogue's "Yirt" suggestion, obviously, though the ship doesn't really look much like the letter Yirt. I believe that one of the ship's scenes was used in the Death Star video boardgame, thus the reference to D'rinba IV (and I've always wanted to name a corvette "Quest II". :p ) Captain Kazan is from the animated Holiday Special segment, though he and his ship are never actually seen. Paxi Silo the cartoonist is from Clone Wars and the databank. :)

Crikey...not another "stealth" trooper... how can you have so much ordinary clones doing covert ops jobs with Arcs and Commandos around... although it kinda supports the clone wars had a lot of special ops battles/missions.

Still waiting for that Clone Assassin to show up... since I already made one up beforehand...

Hmm, another trooper, eh? Gives me a chance to write one up since I ended up passing on the Shadow Trooper due to time.

    Here's my ROTJ BG Ship:

    Beauregarde

The Alderaanian YG-68 Vanguard-class Gunship was built during the Clone Wars to patrol Alderaan against Confederate incursions, capable of easily boarding other ships.

Commonly called the "Yagr-Head" Corvette (after a native grassland predator it's bow resembles), the 190 meter-long craft was armed with 3 dual-turbolasers, 4 quadlasers and 2 rear laser cannons.

Shortly after the Battle of Yavin, one YG-68, the Beauregarde, was upgraded by the Alliance with two extended triple concussion missle struts while it escorted the Nebulon-A Carrier, Kalla's Stanchion. Commanded by the Chalactan Onjo Chakrabarti, it would later be assigned to the task force of the Challenger, sister-ship of Home One, during the Battle of Endor.

Paired with the Blockade Runner Masanya and Elom Manowar Orca, the Yagr-Head defended the Challenger and two GR-75 fueling transports from enemy fighters, with some help from the Millennium Falcon and Red Squadron.

When the Death Star made the Challenger it's second victim, the Rebel fleet desperately closed within range of the Imperial fleet to buy time. Chakrabarti boldly ordered the evacuation of the transports as they charged forward- the Masanya disrupting target acquisition locks while the Orca and Beauregarde held fighters at bay until the empty transports collided with their target: the Devastator.

The impact ignited the fuel reserves onboard, collapsing the Star Destroyer's shields and exposing it to the concentrated fire of the three ships and the B-Wings of Blue Squadron. The barrage erupted the Devastator in a huge explosion.

Moments later the Executor and Death Star would follow it's fate, and in that aftermath the YG-68 would attempt to board the ISD Sorcery Krayt, but was unable to prevent Grand Admiral Takel from escaping- losing the Masanya in the process.

Chakrabarti would fair better during General Solo and Lt. Page's successful capture of the Accuser, one of only two Star Destroyers captured by the Alliance at Endor.

-I first tried to use the name Beauregarde back in my X-Wing pilot submission and have been looking for another opportunity to use it- ever since I saw the spelling for it on the Charlie and the Chocalate Factory soundtrack, I knew I had to try and use it somewhere- it's just such a strange and exotic, yet somewhat regal sounding name.
-Tried to imply these are the Alderaanian gunships mentioned in the ROTJ novelization.
-"Yagr-Head Corvette" is obviously an elboration on the "Y-Head Corvette" monniker. "Yagr" is a small spin on "Jagr" (as in Jaromir), as is the alphanumerical model designation (YG for "Yagr" while 68 being the number he wears)...not that my intentions have done him a whole lot of good in the playoffs so far :p
-Kalla's Stanchion is the large carrier from an issue of Empire; this would be my second attempt to identify it as a "Nebulon-A" (previous attempt was also during the X-Wing submission)
-The second Mon Cal cruiser destroyed by the Death Star has essentially remained unidentified- it obviously cannot be Home One (even though it looks like it), so i always assumed it was the Independence, but I recently learned the Idependence survived Endor so it couldn't be that. Likewise other similarly classed craft previously established as participating at Endor also seem to have survived. So I came up with a new one for our victim.
-Taking into the account of other Mon Cal cruiser names (Indepdence, Liberty, Defiance, etc), I setteled on Challenger as one that seemed to fit in. The fact that it's destroyed also made it seem appropriate.
-Masanya and it's targeting lock disruption capabilities are from the CCG.
-"Manowars" are also mentioned in the ROTJ novelization; here I decided to ID them as Elom ships. Searching for a name, I noticed that one Elom was namd "Kav Dryfus", which reminded me of Richard Dreyfuss, so i decided it'd be fun to tur

    My 'RotJ'-ship entry:
Silas Tagge originally spearheaded the development of the ship that was known as the Legitimate Trailblazer (LT). It was completed at Bonadan Heavy Industries about 5 years BBY. Tagge had been asked by the Ubiqtorate to construct a vessel with an immensely powerful navicomputer to coordinate the safest and fastest Hyperspace jumps ever made.

BoSS classified this vessel as an Advanced Q1 TaggeCo Usher-class vessel measuring about 100 meters. Beside the navicomputer it contained a wide range of scientific instruments to examine the strange wonders of the galaxy. Nevertheless, the Empire used it mostly during military operations. After the ship had calculated a safe jump for essential Death Star parts, an Alliance strike team managed to hijack the unique vessel at Toprawa during a diversion attack.

When Alliance engineers and mathematicians learned how to operate the prototype navicomputer, they realised that quite an important catch had been made. The Legitimate Trailblazer (the ship?s new name) proved its value quickly for the dispersed Alliance fleet and became one of the cornerstones of the fleet after the Battle of Yavin.

The Legitimate Trailblazer would perhaps deliver its most impressive performance right before the Battle of Endor. Travelling through Hyperspace was almost impossible in the Moddell Sector and many ships had been known to simply disappear in this region, even when making short Hyperspace jumps. Givin, Ishi Tib and Mon Cal engineers calculated optimal Hyperspace jumps for the entire Fleet aboard the LT.

Commanded by Cpt. Thorben and modified with added weaponry and fortified shields (needed during the battle), the LT joined the fleet into what might have been it?s last Hyperspace jump. The ship barely survived the ensuing battle and unfortunately its unequalled navicomputer got damaged beyond repair. Alliance top engineers immediately started to build another super navicomputer that would be used when the LT was fully operational again.

The CovertOps does not really make my day. It's a rather dull entry in my opinion, but I've found some leads to create an entry for it. I'll do my best as I always do, but there are far more interesting things to be discussed in WTS.

Well, I might as well repost mine, considering I posted it like four pages back and a few weeks to early. :p

Military historians of the New Republic have written volumes on the Battle of Endor. Much attention is paid to snubfighters like the X-wing and large, powerful capital ships like the Mon Calamari Star Cruiser. Yet, a small class of warship played a key role in the battle. The Sulon-class heavy picket.

Built Soro Suub shortly after the end of the Clone Wars, the 75 meter long heavy picket (named after a moon of Sullust) was designed to provide fleets with excellent picket and anti-starfighter capabilities. Armed with nine quad laser cannons and a pair of front mounted proton torpedo launchers, the Sulon-class was capable of covering the vanguard of a fleet. Yet, Imperial prejudices towards non-human worlds and domination of the ship market by Kuat Drive Yards made sale of this remarkable craft nearly impossible. Not wanting to lose any more credits to a dying project, the few hundred produced units were put into mothballs, high above in orbit over Sullust.

All of that changed when Sullust joined the Rebel Alliance during the year following the disastrous defeat at Hoth. Admiral Ackbar petitioned the Sullustan Council for any small vessels that could provide his fleet with close support. The Sullustan Council immediately began reactivating and modernizing two dozen of the heavy pickets.

During the Battle of Endor, the Sulon-class proved its worth. Several were assigned to cover the Rebel flagship Home One while others were arrayed in a loose formation around the medical frigate. Nearly half of all TIE fighters shot down by Rebel gunners aboard the fleet were by the crews of the heavy pickets.

Following the formation of the New Republic, the Sulon-class was restarted by Soro Suub. Many were used by planetary defense forces, while others were assigned to escort convoys.

Having looked over everyone elses, I can see that we all decided to make the vessel from one of the lesser mentioned Alliance members. We have Alderaanian gunships, Wookiee ships, Sullustan ships, etc, etc. I loved the T2Q's mentioning of a Elom manowar as well. ;)

Hell, all we need is a Duro warship and we have all the original signatories of the New Republic mentioned by one poster or another. :)

I tried to link the ship to an Alliance group as well, more precisely the Ishi Tib delegation present in Home One. But I forgot it, because all those Ishi Tib are unknown and I think it would have limited the chances to be 'chosen'. So, I created an entirely different entry and made it into a unique ship.

Sompeetalay's entry is a good example of a thinking-outside-the-box What's The Story. It makes perfect sense, and who would have guessed that the mystery ship played a vital role like that?
