Let me see if I get this right-

Anakin is either 18 or 19, maybe even 20.

    Padme is 24 or 25.

Obi-Wan HAS to be at least 32 or so.

Qui-Gon was about 50 or so in TPM right???

    Sooooo...

If Dooku was Qui-Gon's Master, that would make Dooku at LEAST 70 in TPM and 80 in ATOC?!?!

Is my math wrong, or does Dooku fight darn well for an old fossil?? Sheesh, Obi-Wan and Anakin should have been able to whip this old geezer with one hand!!

Please someone let me know if I'm wrong!!!

Don't forget that Dooku had some good competition from someone who is over 800 years old. ;)

It just seemed kind of odd to me, once I sat down to work out the numbers. Dooku does NOT look about 80. He looks about 60. I can not even imagine him being Qui-Gon's Master at any point. (shudders) Poor Qui-Gon.

"Dooku does NOT look about 80."

Christopher Lee, the actor who played Dooku, is over 80 years old. He's in great shape for his age.

70-80 years old wouldn't be a bad guess.

I think humans live alot longer in the GFFA though.

Qui-Gonn looks more like mid 40s to me. So 70-odd for Dooku would seem about right.

Um, Christopher Lee (the guy who plays Dooku) is over 80 years old (I think he's 81).

Well, there goes your argument. :p

The AOTC novel states he'd just celebrated his 20th birthday.

    Padme is 24 or 25.

    That's right.

    That's probably about right.

Okay, let's have a look at this...

Liam Neeson was about 46 years old when they were shooting TPM. Qui-Gon Jinn is meant to be 60, so they put a lot of grey streaks into Neeson's beard and the wig he wore to age him.

At the age of 57 in ANH, Obi-Wan looks a lot older, but then his living conditions and way of life are a lot rougher after Episode 3.

So, Qui-Gon is meant to be 60.

A Padawan can be taken on by a Jedi Master (or Knight, in special circumstances) at any age up to 13, in human years. So, Qui-Gon would've been taken on as a Padawan up to about 48 years before TPM.

It's a bit unclear with Dooku's exact age, it could be as old as 90, but we know Lee was 80 when shooting AOTC. So let's say 80-90.

That would mean he's 70-80 during TPM.

So Dooku could've been between 22-32 when he took Qui-Gon on as a Padawan. Fairly young, but not without precedent. Considering Yoda took Dooku on for extra tuition himself, Dooku was clearly a powerful Jedi from even an early age, so this could be the reason why he had an apprentice so soon. I think Qui-Gon took on his first Padawan around the age of 30 too, mind you.

According to the Episode II Visual Dictionary, Count Dooku was born approximately during the year 102 BSW4, which would indeed make him 80 years young at the time of AOTC.

    Ah, thanks Leto II.
Even the official SW site didn't have Dooku's age, but the Visual Dictionaries are usually reliable.

LOL! A 22 yr old Master with a 13 year old Padawan. Now that sounds like a recipe for trouble right there!!

Thanks for all the help. I learned a lot already. I had no idea Lee was that old. He's in great shape for 81! I'm impressed.

Considering how much Dooku and Qui-Gon share similar thoughts and approaches to matters, it seems they really rubbed off on each other. More like an older brother for QG I guess, rather than the father/son relationship QG and Obi-Wan had.

At the age of 25, Obi-Wan took on the 9 year old Anakin as a Padawan. That's close to the same situation as Qui-Gon/Dooku.

And look how that wound up!

However, it might be different with somebody trained from birth. I mean, I listen to my squad leader, and he's only 12 years older than me.

I bet the life expectancy in the GFFA for humans is well over a hundred so I wouldn't be surprised at Dooku being over 80

Actually, his EU profile on the OS says that he "has been training in the Force for nearly 80 years," and since Jedi potentials arrive at the Temple between 6 months and a year, that'd put him pretty much right at 80. :)

Actually,Qui-Gon was in his mid 30's,and Obi-Wan was probably 18 in TPM,so Dooku is most likely in his late 50's or early 60's.

    Obi-Wan was 25 in TPM, not 18.

Kit-Fisto7BA, Qui-Gon is meant to be a (good for his age) 60 in TPM. Liam Neeson himself was 42 at the time of filming. I think he'd love someone to think he's as young as 30 :)

I don't think it matters how old you are, if you are that good a jedi and have that much experience, you can take on anyone.
One of the things about the force is letting yourself go and being able to do things that may seem and look impossible. So I think just because Dooku is 80 while Obi-Wan and Anakin are much younger, it does not mean they should win the duel.

    Well said ;)

But perhaps we should also consider the fact that most of Dooku's sabre fights were done by a much younger double.
