Oh and that "super-duper advanced future tech" staples her stomach shut, STAPLES. It doesn't even sew it up, it's LESS advanced than tech that we have today apparently. Seriously, if they had put like some random goo on her, then I could have at least hand-waved it away as "future healing cream" or something, but they don't even do that.

Oh and I had my appendix removed a few years ago. And for the rest of the day, I wasn't even really able to stand up (and it was very painful for days after that). And that WASN'T a traumatic impromptu C-section. Yet she's running, and fighting, and jumping, and falling, etc mere hours later (how did she not rip open her wound is something that I'll never get, again it's stapled shut). Oh and she was downing so many pain pills so quickly that it's a wonder that she didn't overdose.

As for Charlize, you know that you've screwed up in the writing when multiple people in the theatre are looking at the screen and saying "run to the side you moron."

I wish I could Like Thrawn082 's post 6000+ times! Given the wasted potential I feel about Prometheus the way most oldschool SW fans feel about the prequels: pure hate for pure drivel.

I haven't thought about it, because these complaints are not mine, but do you think Scott knew that? Do you think it was intentional?

One would think he would know, Alien was his movie, too.

sinister, I stopped at 22 seconds, everything that was said at that point was sheer idiocy

I don't know what Scott was thinking. Given his last few films, it might be that he's become much of interested in both "spectacle" and "symbolism" then his movies making logical sense.

Scott has never been a writer's director. He needs a solid screenplay to bring to life with his brilliant visual skills. Lacking that he'll shoot the scenes as written and thus end up with nonsensical dreck like Prometheus or Black Rain.

yeah , I think so , maybe it's age , he's reached a point where he's thinking about stuff like immortality etc. so we get these 'meta-views' (don't know if I'm using that right) god's eye views of a narrative rather than the human view which Alien was at .
like everyone else I really believe in those characters in Alien , they are real . Ridley's probably thinking more about ideas like : "what we do echos through history" or whateverthehell that quote is .

Well, just finished Prometheus and I have to say Ridley Scott doesn't need to be trying to redo 2001 anymore. Kubrick, aside from being Kubrick, had Arthur C. Clarke writing his movie. Ridley got Lindoff. Aside from that, I kinda feel Prometheus is just as good as Alien. I mean, Alien had characters looking for a stupid CAT! That is just as dumb to me as running in a straight line or petting an alien snake. You do not worry about an animal well known for their ability to not give a crap about whoever feeds it when there's a chest-bursting death creature on board! And David didn't practically twirl his mustache like Ash did. Seriously, I'm surprised Ian Holm didn't wink at the camera. Overall, I liked Prometheus more, due to the fact that it actually tried to tell you what was happening both in itself and Alien which the first film didn't even attempt. And Scott didn't waste time filming long shots of boring walls. Seriously, I'd HAD it with Nostromo's walls ten minutes in.

I can't say I agree about the walls being boring, but I appreciate the comment. Like the stuff about the cat.

I like both Alien and Prometheus. Though Aliens is my favorite of the franchise.

That c-section scene in Prometheus was unbelievable, every bit as good as the original chest bursting scene. I was that thrilled and terrified by it. I think it was well received, but I think it was so good that it might be a little underrated, not appreciated for just how amazing it is. And I love that she's up and running around afterward (badass), bending over in pain and holding her guts from time to time, despite realizing how unlikely it is that she would be able to do what she did. It takes that extreme stress-inducing terror of the c-section, and keeps it going, it makes everything that comes after frantic and frenetic. It's faster and more intense, Lucas would say.

I understand the comments about the characters being stupid as hell in Prometheus, and I can appreciate that. They are stupid as hell. It's just that I don't care, and never did.

Yeah, the way I see it the Xenomorph is the final end result the Engineer bioweapon development. Black Liquid / Shaw's baby / Decaon is not HOW you get to the Xenomorph. They have that special mural / vial in the back for that, but you get realllllly close in Prometheus. ike the Decaon in Prometheus is not the "first" OG alien, mostly because this movie isn't set on LV-42; they were created by the Engineers. we just don't see them aside from the Xeno mural at the back.

I think the movie answers that question - God is a 9 foot tall albino human-looking space alien. He exists, he created life, and he hates you. Just because. When you try to ask him questions, he rips off the android's head, smashes you with it, and "There's nothing." "I know. Have a good journey, Mr. Weyland." Dark but hey it's there. The search for who / what / why ends in chaos and death. Some things are best left not looking for answers.

That "C-section scene" was... um... yeah. I hate to break it to you, but he forced the very religious, Catholic scientist into having an abortion. It wasn't very subtle...

agreed, the C-section birth scene is so well done I think saying that it's terrible because of the metaphorical standpoint does a disservice to how freakin amazing the pace of that scene is and how it amps up.

As for Shaw running around in the climax, you can see that she shot herself up with Future Drugs in the thigh right before they went out on a jaunt with Weyland. Future drugs! These people make talking living robots. They probably got realllllly good space morphine.

It does get to the point after a bit. Starting at :46 seconds.

Uh, the reason for the worry about Jones is the fact that the tracking device detected him. Because Jones got away due to Bret's lack of thought, he could again be picked up on the tracker. This is revisited again in "Aliens".

The difference with David is that the audience knows about why Ash was like he was through "Aliens", "Alien 3" and "Alien Resurrection". David is the precursor to the later Androids in the franchise.

Ripley saving Jonesy is downright sweet, dammit. He's a member of the crew and everyone else is dead by the goddamned alien. Damn straight Ripley's gonna go get the cat!

.... of course she says to him in Aliens "And you, you little %^&$#&, you're staying here." so even she must have been irritated by it a bit.

This is a franchise where the creatures start off as vagina eggs, which hatch into strangling, face raping hands with vagina mouths on the palm, which ram an egg down your throat, which bursts through your chest in the shape of a phallus, then they turn into monsters with vagina mouths/tongues. Penises and vaginas are everywhere. I'm probably missing quite a few of them here.

But an abortion scene. Too far.

There were rumors back in '09 or so that Fox was going to attempt yet another AvP movie. Really hope that "franchise" is dead.

I've only watch Prometheus once and I thought that was more than enough. I thought to myself after seeing this film, perhaps I'm not getting everything out of this movie that I should have and so I went on YouTube and one of my favorite YouTubers, ComicBookGirl19, did several videos on the film. The videos helped me get a better understanding of the basis for the film, but I still don't have any desire to see it again.

I recommend check out the videos, but they're NSFW due too language.
