Yes and I enjoyed it. The best parts of the book are flashbacks detailing Amanda's childhood and getting an answer of who her father is and why Ripley doesn't even ask about him in Aliens (though it's a little convoluted tbh).

Unfortunately since a lot of the game is cris-crossing back and forth to unlock doors you couldn't earlier the later part isn't very exiting. The author just zips through it. Also the book doesn't have the part in the game where you have to sneak past or blow up a bunch of androids in combat gear guarding the reactor.

I recommend it especially if you didn't play the game.

On the Black Oil (Prometheus not x-files lol):
I find it interesting that the Engineers also created humans with black goo and a sacrifice. I assume that version of the goo mutates life into human-ish forms. Fast forward a couple of thousand years and a new goo will mutate everything into xeno-ish forms. One person's creation is another's destruction.

While watching Prometheus for the first time in the theater I kept hearing a RS quote from Alien commentary in reference to the space jockey- "where does biology end and technology begin?"

That quote, in essence, embodies so much of what I adore about the Alien franchise, and the prequels (especially Covenant) distilled that question into something I find really captivating.

It probably won't change but we do have an artist that wants to do stuff in alien. The Artist/writer of Wonder Woman dead earth and the Beta Ray bill mini thats coming out currently Wants to do something with alien and he's already working for marvel so it could happen . [IMG]

I don't think Alien is an official ongoing which may lead to artist change, Marvel kind of likes to do ongoing miniseries or whatever. there's a Predator series out next month. And the next Alien series is an Aliens return to LV-426 comic I belive. Knowing Marvel this will definitely lead to an Alien vs. Predator series/mini.

I want my Deadpool vs. Aliens sooner than later, dammit! The Deadpool Nerdy 30 Anniversary comic teased a Deadpool/Predator confrontation which they can totally do.

That upcoming Aliens title is a one-shot, actually, whereas this Alien one thus far has been branded as a true ongoing, with its first 'arc' concluding in issue 5 but all signs pointing to it continuing on indefinitely after that.

Also, I see that James Stokoe has been doing art on at least one recent Marvel book; bring him back for more Alien work – I adored the look of Aliens: Dead Orbit over at Dark Horse.

damn I just googled that Predator comic being delayed, they had a sweet Predator omnibus too

Meanwhile in Predator-land the Skulls movie just announced a lead and a shooting date, any chance they're pushing Skulls so they can show the courts "See, we're still making Predator stuff!" Might as well put out Predator comics to reinforce that point if ya ask me.

Looks like we might be in for some better art in the Aliens one-shot.

Two weeks ago got Aliens Omnibus #1 from marvel. First off I assumed it was a soft cover Epic Collection....ha imagine my surprise when I get to my LCS and it's hardcover, a little over 1,000 pages, and $125! Weighs about 6lbs according to Amazon listing. It's a Beast. (I've been calling it The Beast or The Dragon bc of size and to reference Alien3 cuz I'm a nerd)

Got it anyway because while I have just about everything in original issue format those comics are getting old and fragile. I hate risking them just to reread.

Exclusive to this volume is a serialized comic from the UK only DH Alien magazine (never reprinted or sold in US) and the Space Marines mini comics that came with the toys in '92-'93 (also never reprinted anywhere). These two alone made it worth the $ IMO but the SM comics are printed very small to save space I assume, made them a little hard to read.

Other than that no complaints at all. The last pages are the pin-ups and covers of ALL the different trades and reprints DH did. I could stare at those for hours. Truly an excellent collection.

Only thing is that the cover depending on if u get the regular one is plagiarized the cover that isn't plagiarized is a variant cover

Greg land Traced and plagiarized this one from this

the Variant Cover looks like this
    [IMG]

It doesn't look like the Second Volume has a plagiarized cover so thats good

The variant cover version is actually just the cover of the very first Aliens issue Dark Horse ever released. I really wish that was the main cover here, and the Frankensteined Greg Land monstrosity was never commissioned.

But then, Marvel also has notorious tracer Salvador Larocca "drawing" their current Alien book, so Marvel's gonna Marvel I guess. [face_sick]

@Darth Corydon, I'm really shocked Marvel would be ok with blatant plagiarism like that. Thanks for pointing it out!

The cover is a dust-jacket, underneath is the front and back cover of the first Earth War trade without the text which is beautiful

marvel puts out a lot of comics and trades so I'm not surprised as Salvador Larocca and Greg land still get tons of work by them

Wasn't Aliens Earth War like reprinted with different names for Newt and Ripley after Alien 3? Or some original Dark horse Aliens sequel that Alien 3 up and wrecked. I have dark horse's "Newt's Tale" which is basically an adaptation of Aliens that has the POV of Hadley's Hope being overrun and the adaptation starts when the Marines show up. And the final panel mentions that Newt is "dreaming of a life that will never be". Basically a two issue adaptation/last page retcon.

Newt and Hicks became Billie and Wilks, and Ripley became an android copy of the original Ripley. The new names were also used in the novel adaptations of these comics.

Honestly, I don't like any of those original Aliens sequel comics, in either their Newt/Hicks or Billie/Wilks incarnations. The actual Alien 3 film is much more my speed.

Dark Horse did do some cool stuff afterwards, though.

So is Earth War in the Marvel omnibus reprint the original names or the changed ones? Has the original Earth War been Special Edition'd out of existence?

The original, first Alien vs. Predator mini was my jam, it's so great. I read it so many times and you still see that influence pop up in the first AvP movie. Then there was this 12 issue Alien vs. Predator: Music of the Spears that I remember had a drop in art quality about halfway through. Then there's the DC/Dark Horse Alien or Predator crossovers which I loved Batman vs. Predator. I know that sometimes Marvel likes to keep different lines separate but I dug those DC/Dark Horse Alien crossovers so much I hope they'll let lose sooner than later with a Marvel crossover.

My favorite comics from the Dark Horse days are Salvation, Sacrifice, Inhuman Condition, and Dead Orbit. I hear Labyrinth is excellent, and the art is right up my alley, but I haven't read that one yet. I also love Alien: The Illustrated Story, but that one pre-dates Dark Horse and was actually done by Heavy Metal, which is incredibly fitting given the influence Heavy Metal had on the making of the original Alien.

There's a John Bryne Alien one-shot set in the 50s that has Ripley's great great grandpappy beating up an Alien that somehow landed on Earth which I kinda appreciated in a nutty way.

Aliens Vol1,2 and Earth War are original Hicks and Newt. The only change is they went with the colorized version of Aliens Vol 1 instead of original printing B&W.

I like the story of Vol1 and Earth War but Vol2 isn't great. It started the troup of "crazy military guy tries to brainwash Xenos to be loyal". Art is aMaxing though and I could stare at pages all day.

I already posted this article in the Raised by Wolves thread, but there are a few comments from Ridley and Luke Scott in here that seem to imply that Luke might be working on the Noah Hawley Alien series (which Ridley is a producer on):

Here's a new 30 minute interview with Hawley. He starts talking about Alien at roughly 26 minutes in. No significant details, just mostly about how he came onto the project and that it is still early days yet. He also mentions that he would have liked to have seen Blomkamp's film.

That's a pretty cool design. Hopefully the story ends up being good enough to warrant a new queen design. Kind of reminds me of the "King Alien" toy from the 90's

I've been reading each issue and so far... the story doesn't warrant much of anything to be honest. I'm just kind of bored by it, and the art on the whole has been getting worse and worse each issue. I really hope there's a shakeup in the creative team once the second arc kicks off...

That's a shame. I had high hopes because DH's were hit-or-miss (mostly somewhat enjoyable) for years until mini reboot in 2009. I haven't been able to get to my LCBS so issue 3 & 4 are waiting for me.

TBH real life money issues are on the horizon so I have to trim my budget, which means a pause on all comic spending after I grab those. My meh response to Alien makes the decision easier.
