Yes, the finale to the El Mariachi/Desperado trilogy. Brings back Antonia Banderas and Salma Hayek, and this time brings Johnny Depp into the mix. This one looks like the best in the trilogy (not exactly classy movies, but if you like big explosions and hot women. . .), and Johnny Depp in particular looks like he had a lot of fun in his role.

Actually, the movie's been completed since 2001 . . . any idea why it's waited two years to be released? Maybe something to do with 9/11?

The trailer does look pretty sweet. I'll check it out but I thought Desperado was a major letdown. I had seen El Mariachi, which turned out incredibly good considering it was made for about 7 grand, and was excited to see what Rodriguez could do with a multi-million dollar budget. And then Desperado disappointed, big time.

    Hope this one's good. :)

I didn't know that Desparado had a sequel, much less a trilogy!

    What was the sequel???

1995's Desperado was the follow-up to Robert Rodriguez's micro-budgeted hit, 1992's El Mariachi. One Upon a Time in Mexico is the second sequel that rounds out the trilogy.

Wait, wait, wait. I only saw Desperado. Was Antonio in that El whatever movie, too? Are all three movies about Antonio's character? And...what were they about again? I forgot what Desperado was about. All I remember was a sex scene with Salma Hayek--but who could blame me, right? ;)

They're all about El Mariachi. In the first film, he's not Antonia Banderas. In Desperado, Banderas took over the title role (the original actor was one of his guitar-case friends from the end).

El mariachi, as I understand it, is basically the same as Desperado: A mariachi player takes revenge on gangsters who killed his girlfriend.

El Mariachi was about a mariachi drifter who shows up in a mexican town with nothing but a guitar, looking for work as, what else, a mariachi. However, there is a turf war going on at the time, and there is a different guy with a guitar case full of guns who kills people. The 'bad' guys think that the new guy mariachi is the guy killing everyone, because he "wears black and has a guitar case". So the movie is basically this nice mariachi guy being chased around town by 'bad' guys with a case of mistaken identity, even though he didn't do anything. He meets a chick, then finally meets the guy who actually is doing all the killing. The girl and guy with the guitar case full of guns die, so the mariachi takes up the guitar case full of weapons.
It's actually a really good movie (although totally in spanish) especially when you consider that it took mere peanuts to make. I think Desperado was kind of a let down, and it has some of the worst photography of any film I've ever seen.

Also, I believe that Once Upon A Time in Mexico has been delayed primarily because Rodriguez just never got around to editing it. There was no set release date, and with him doing 3 Spy Kids movies he just didn't have time to get around to finishing it I guess.

if i am correct once upon a time in mexico was shot completely in digital. robert rodriguez said that lucas is the obi-wan kenobi of digital filmmaking and he wants to be the luke skywalker of it. he did not want to wait to 10 years before everyone else did it. perhaps this was the reason why it took so long for it to actually come out.

and i am definitely going to see it. loved the first two and i am sure i will like this one. and hey salma hayek is in who can ask more????

In a nutshell: Antonio Banderas shoots up lots of stuff, and Salma Hayek gets naked.

    Partial.

And it was theorized to be a body double. Though most people believe it to be her...
