Amph One Thread To Rule Them All: The Rings of Power, The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings & Middle-earth films

Is his name really "Sme-OWWWW-guh-uh" instead of "Smog?"

 

I always thought it was Smorg.

 

So am I the only one who found the love triangle in this better than the love triangle in Lord of the Rings?

 

I haven't seen the film yet, but making fun of people's over-enunciation of his name (as though they're reminding themselves that it's not pronounced "smog") has been the best part.

 

It was hardly even a triangle. Legolas and Tauriel treat each other as friends. The only hint of romance between them is from Thranduil's conversation with her, where she tears up a little. That's it.

 

And Kili and Tauriel have all of, what, two scenes together? Once in the dungeons when Kili tells her about his mother, and then again when Tauriel is healing Kili's leg wound. Honestly, LOTR had more scenes of Eowyn mooning over Aragorn.

 

It was more of a love semicircle.

 

Female fans of the series are gonna be mighty disappointed in the third installment, though. The three hottest Dwarves are all gonna bite it! Oh well, I guess they can always switch to loving Bifur and Oin instead.

 

It's pronounced "Smowg" NOT "Smog"!

Tauriel: "I assure you, my lord, Legolas thinks of me as no more than the captain of the guard. I didn't think you would pledge your son to a lowly Silvan elf. Plus I'm already going out with the dwarf hottie Kili "

Thranduil: "No you're right, I would not. Still, he cares about you. Do not give him hope when there is- wait, what???"

 

So, is this film as astonishingly soulless and awful as the first Hobbit, i.e. can I skip it?

 

For you the answer is yes.
For me: I think I'll go see it again.

Thing is, once you forget the ear-wormy tune, the verse of the ballad is actually quite decent, and bravely carried by the film's cast.

In all fairness, it should be stated that interview was conducted whilst he was swimming in a pile of gold, Scrooge McDuck Smaug-style.

 

I caught both of the cameos. Colbert's was a little harder to point out though.

Those two could probably read the bloody phonebook, and I'd sit there enthralled. It probably has something to do with the baritone-bass register, but there you have it. It also doesn't hurt that they're both impressively articulate and well-read gentlemen...

Benedict has such an amazing voice and would actually make the perfect Severus Snape if they ever rebooted Harry Potter.


I'm terribly sorry for all that.

 

I'm morbidly interested in seeing this happen...............
He has some big shoes to fill. Alan Rickman and Joe Moses but if anyone can do it BC could.

 

Well Snape in the book is vastly different/superior to movie Snape as much as I love Rickman. I just think Benedict could capture the raw anger and emotion that Snape would oftentimes display in the books.
