Yeah, one ad in the Super Bowl will set people talking for months, sometimes (if the ad shows something funny or exciting).

It's part of the price of being a prominent corporation in America/the World.

 

Spend the same amount on ads and social media content to reach ten times as much audience.

This is a vanity ad more than anything else; Bezos is paying for a Superbowl ad slot not because it's the best way to spend his money, but because he can.

 

Bezos already stepped down as CEO... he's got other people running things now.

 

I mean, yes, it definitely translates to buzz, and that buzz will extend to the social media almost immediately.

No, actually - wrong country. And I'm pretty certain crunching the numbers would still yield an inferior result to more diversified strategy.

 

Just try to imagine it was an ad running during the World Cup Final.

 

There is such a thing as cultural cache. A Super Bowl ad is inherently more newsworthy, seen by a much wider audience in the US, raises awareness in ways that just dumping it on Twitter would not. It's definitely not a vanity project, its just that this piece of marketing may not be catered to an international audience.

 

Who watches ads on telly anyway? Ads on telly during sports events are for going to the loo or getting a cup of tea/glass of wine/beer/beverage of your choice.

 

if you're worried that the advertising for this thing won't be ubiquitous i think you should rest easy, lol.

 

That was just me being silly... Comparing the popularity of soccer worldwide vs. American football in the US. But soccer matches don't feature so many ads because each half of the match is played continuously. With American football, I swear there's a commercial every 2-3 minutes....

 

I don't watch ads at all. And I don't watch sports at all. But this move still makes sense to me in terms of making this feel like an event and building prestige, cache, etc.

 

I will grant that this rubs me the wrong way on a day when I'm already in a rather foul mood.

 

I think a better marketing strategy would be trailers attached to the beginning of those straight-to-streaming Bruce Willis movies.

 

Who actually watches those Bruce Willis movies, anyway?

Superbowl Sunday is about getting together , eating lots of food, drinking till you drop , the game is a non factor unless your a sports fanatic as i was once lol
