isn't that how they did the original SW movies? stationary text and they moved the camera? and also for the ships in the beginning, wasn't it stationary ships they moved the camera along?

Probably... That's an ILM inovation... Computer controlled cameras...

Until someone realizes they took the idea from 2001...

If you want to make a opening crawl in Flash you need to buy Flash MX.
Here's a tutorial. They have a example of the actual text. Just click on the text "gotoandplay".

Does anybody wants a translation of this tutorial?

    Yes!

BTW, in AE 5 PB, how do I get the logo or the crawl to fade out? I'm a newbie, so I need very simple instrctions. (AE's Help system doesn't...)

Keyframe the opacity of the logo/crawl down from 100% to 0%.

Your help file should be able to explain keyframing.

Here's a question I have about my opening crawl - it's auctually the only thing stopping me from finishing my FanFilm - the crawl.

I plan to do it in Premiere. I have a plug-in (Matrox RT-2500) that essintally is Premiere's "Motion" tool with a Z axis and 3D rotation.

    Now, the biggest problem is:
How do I get the still image?
I tried typing it in Photoshop, but Photoshop can't do the "Full" justification, just left, right, and center. So, how do I get a picture about 720 wide and 3000 pixels tall (Or whatever I need) of JUST my text? This is my biggest problem.

    Next problem:

Premiere has this really nice thing that automatically re-sizes images to fit your screen. Unfortantally, this isn't what I want, and if I try to manually zoom in after this point, I get a whole lot of distortion becuase it's blowing up a small image. I want the picture in full so I can scroll it across the screen. Is there a button I can check to maintian the original screen size?

    Thanks guys. :)

Photoshop can do full justification, you may need to poke around in the palettes. (What version are you using? I know 6.0 can do it.)

If you're having trouble you could just type it in Word, take a screenshot and work on that image :p

And since when can Flash do object distortions? After I slaved over a crawl letter-by-letter for RUN LEIA RUN? :_|

I'm using 7.0 and, but the justtification icon that looks like the "Full" is grayed out.

Anyway, if I do get it, how do I re-size it in premiere? This one's more important.

    Again, thanks. :)

It's not a very intuitive method in Photoshop 7.

You need to select your type, then go to LAYER > TYPE > CONVERT TO PARAGRAPH TEXT

Then when you highlight the text the justify icon won't be grey and you can prceed as normal. It's neat when you get that bit though.

The KidWars crawl is done in 3D Studio. I find that the easiest way.

    But thats me ;)

When I was matching my opening / crawl to the original films timing i ripped the video off the Episode 1 DVD and imported it into After Effects as a quicktime file, then placed it on my composition at the bottom. Then I simply worked my way through, matching each bit to the timing of the real thing... then for the final "make movie" i simply turned that track off...

Worked darn well i think. I have the most realistic looking scroll here I've seen anywhere.. of course the right fonts help too ;)

AdamBertocci, Flash MX can do distortions. (Check the above posts!)

I'm having some trouble with it, but it works, basically.

Someone needs to post a tutorial on this at the Post-Production page.

(Here's one I did for school, if you care... You'll need the Flash 6 player.)

Um.. re: the flash one... that's not how the scroll goes, it's merely moving up the screen, with the text warped a bit... the text needs to move backwards away from the camera to a point ON the screen....

Actually, I have a problem of my own. It doesn't have to do so much with the crawl itself, but more of a rendering problem. Once I finish the crawl and add the music and all that, I render the movie. It looks fine, except that as the text is moving away from the screen, it seems to be "pulling" the stars with it. Oncve it fades out, the stars reappear in their normal places, but it's very noticable. Anyone know why that is?

    AGGGH! I can't believe it!

The RUN LEIA RUN crawl took me forever and I could have cut 4-5 hours of work down to two minutes and had it look better!

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

Just FYI, the opening crawl available for download on the 3d section of TFN is actually timed perfectly. I put it to the music of both ESB and Return of the Jedi and the music cues hit perfectly with the logo, and the pan down and all that. Just download that one, and replace the text. It's easy.

"Now, to compensate for this nasty effect, right click on the STAR WARS layer in the timeline and select Keyframe Assistant>Exponetial Scale. Now the words don't speed up or slow down."

but.... the logo DOES start fast and slow down...

Did we ever get a full translation of that tutorial?

From a frontal perspective, yes. However, in 3D space the logo moves at the same speed straight back throughout.
