Well, this has been an interesting week...

a few days ago, I was at a Wal*Mart, and found the new 12" Boba Fett from the Original Trilogy Collection, complete with replica packaging, like that used on the original 12" figure in '78 or '79.

So, I admire my new figure, which is not only an improvement over the figure of 25 years ago, but also an improvement over the 12" Boba Fett from the late '90s. Everything looks like his first appearance in ESB, from the light-grey flight suit, to the olive-green gauntlets. I was pretty stoked to have him, since he seems to only come 1 per case. :)

Then, today, I walked into a Target, and they had what appeared to be a full case of OTC 12" figures on the shelf. 3 Lukes, 2 Stormtroopers, and 1 Boba Fett.... with a BLUE jumpsuit!!!

Figuring one or the other might be one of those rare variants that ends up being worth big bucks on the aftermarket, I bought the blue-suited Boba, despite the fact that it had apparently been dropped HARD, damaging one of the corners.

Here's a picture of the 2, side-by-side. Blue suit on the left, light-grey suit on the right.

So, has anyone else spotted this variant?

My guess would be that the factory screwed up and used the wrong dye on at least one batch of jumpsuits for the Boba Fett figures. What do you all think?

I thought the blue one was the common one. Is that right?

I have no clue which one is common. This week was the first time any 12" Bobas showed up in my area, and I only found one of each.

For what it's worth, the prototype pictured on the back has a grey jumpsuit, although it appears slightly darker than the grey used on the actual production version, which matches perfectly, as you can see, with the grey paint used on the armored breastplate.

Another thought is this: Perhaps the blue shipped to stores in the first wave of cases to go out, thus leading fans to think it was the more common of the 2. But, perhaps Hasbro caught the error early, and as more shipments arrive at stores, perhaps we'll see the grey one become the dominant color.

It could also be that they're having difficulty producing the exact color they want, and perhaps we'll see a 3rd variant.

Time will tell, it always does.

The gray one is more common, the blue one is rarer, and worth more than the gray one, but I don't think it's a mistake...

Well, if the grey one is more plentiful, it sounds like a running revision. Usually, Hasbro does that if the early production runs aren't entirely satisfactory. The blue color is WAY off, so my guess is the grey is a running production change to make it the color it should've been all along.

I'll keep my eyes on Toyfare, Lee's Toy Review, and Tomart's Action Figure Digest to see what they have to say. A variant like this will be mentioned sooner or later. ;)

AAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH! no offense, but i can't believe there's a thread about this. me and a couple other people have been trying to start this conversations in several other threads, and nobody ever seems to want to talk about it!!!!!!

okay, i'm done venting. here's a summary of what we've discussed:

    1. blue is supposedly the first run and rarer than gray.

    2. according to hasbro, blue=boba in ESB, gray=boba in ROTJ. (or is it vice versa?) therefore, according to hasbro, it's intentional and not a "mistake"

    3. there is also another variation that i can't find any info about. my boba and a few others has an extra sticker on the packaging. it's a SW logo diagonal across the top left corner of the outer box.

    4. from the few 12 inchers i've seen, they seem to be about 50/50 for each color. but i think gray is supposed to be replacing blue.

Yes, you are correct. The variations are intentional...Blue-Empire Grey/green-Jedi.

I've only seen two blue ones. They were in the first wave that hit K-Mart about a month ago. All the ones I've seeen since at Toys R Us, Walmart and a second shipment at K-Mart are grey/green.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more blue ones mixed in as more come out, but I think there is more demand for the grey/green. I'm not fanatical about it, but I can see where both are accurate to their respective movies.

I only found one stand at Memorabilia (UK) last week that had the 12-inch Fett, and it was the grey one as pictured. Needless to say I bought him. I am going to keep an eye out for the blue one but am happy to have found the figure, no matter what color his jumpsuit is.

Well, I'm just guessing here, because I didn't see any of those posts you mention, but maybe they didn't comment about it because it was in another thread, and therefore presumably off-topic?

Well, while there are color differences between the ESB Fett costume, and the ROTJ version, I'm pretty sure neither one had a blue flight suit, at least not one that noticeably blue. That one is colored like Jango's, whereas I'm sure that both versions of Boba's suit featured grey flight suits, although they may have been 2 different shades of grey. The other color variation between the 2 movies was the color scheme of the backpack and the gauntlets - olive green all around in one movie, and in the other, a blue and orange backpack with red and orange/gold gauntlets. I didn't look closely enough to see if those color changes are represented.

    3. there is also another variation that i can't find any info about. my boba and a few others has an extra sticker on the packaging. it's a SW logo diagonal across the top left corner of the outer box.

I have not yet seen any of the 12" dolls packaged that way, that I recall, but I'll now be keeping my eyes open.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. I'll keep my eyes and ears open, and see what more I find out. :)

in my defense, it was in the "vintage & new 12" discussion and review" thread, where it is entirely appropriate.

The first Fett I picked up was the Blue no sticker...
then I saw a Blue Fett and Luke with the sticker and thought they looked even cooler but I didn't pick them up, figuring this was the was they all were now and I'd "exchange" them later. I ended up going back to do just that but they were gone- haven't seen any with the stickers since.
I also found a Grey Fett and picked him up at Walmart for kicks. Not sure which is harder to find but I'll probably be keeping them both.
