See above. We are in the worst possible timeline.

ETA: Questions about what goes in this thread and what goes in general US Politics:

—There is going to be some overlap. There always is. But…

—Anything Biden vs Trump vs third party, how prominent third parties are getting, debates, campaigning, VP announcements, polling is stupid because nobody picks up the phone anymore except Boomers, coverage on major media outlets sucks: this thread.

—Anything non-presidential-election related in Congress, what Mike Johnson’s son found out about his porn habits, where Marjorie Taylor Green is hiding the gazpacho police, which corporate PACs are paying prominent Democrats to keep the minimum wage at $7.25 an hour, anything on elections in individual states (at least right now): US Politics thread. Once we hit November we can put all election results in this thread.

If Trump wins, it'll be the Biff-owned alternate 1985...only worse.

Biden Harris and there isn’t really an option here. America is completely ****ed if anyone else wins. Not to mention the rest of the world. There is no choice to be had. This decision was made the moment Biden announced his intention to run again.

I know you all get pissy at me when I say if you vote 3rd party you might as well be voting for Trump. I stood by that in 2020 I stand by it now.

vote Biden. He may suck, but he’s 1 million times better than Trump. Okay see you all in 5 months cause this **** is to depressing.

Do we need a separate election thread other than the US Politics one?

Even if we accept this logic, it would only really apply in the handful of swing states that actually decide the election in our system devised by slaveholders and proto-capitalists to blunt popular will. California is going to Biden no matter what I do.

The last few elections, I've been looking at all the candidates, trying to figure out what kind of damage they'll do in office, and deciding what kind of damage we can best handle as a nation. What I wouldn't give for a candidate I can actually support... :(

It's important to remember if you vote for Biden and Biden doesn't win, that was basically like voting for Trump.

This way, the other thread can basically be a haven from Trump/Biden news, and talk about all other U.S. news/politics besides the election and Trump/Biden stuff.

I'll say the same thing I've said in response to thread and forum splits for years: we're just not a big enough community for that to be necessary or helpful.

If I had to vote in the US election and the options are Senile Geocide Joe and Fascist Cheeseburger Trump, it would be the easiest 3rd party vote in my life. I wouldn't even blink.

The logic is simple and correct, the 2016 Democrats just don't want to hear it.

The far left refuses to vote for Hillary. Therefore, if you are a moderate and you want to beat Trump, your only option is to vote for Bernie. A vote for Hillary is a vote for Trump.

It’s good to not let other US politics, especially things that might directly impact people much more than the day-to-day of the election, get drowned out by all the election drama.

Is it already 2016’o’clock again? [face_tired][face_tired][face_tired]

I still laugh when I think about how people here as early as December 2020 were saying that we should all shut up about Trump because he wasn't relevant any more, only liberals talk about him, etc.

Personally, I'm not going to take anyone to task for who they vote or don't vote for, or if they choose not to vote. But just spare us all the horse**** that a second Trump presidency isn't going to be much, much worse.

By most metric, all things combined, Trump is likely going to be worse.

Though, there are specific issues over which, I believe, beyond a certain threshold of bad, and doom, and horror, it becomes pointless to even establish hierarchies. It's hard for me to weigh how worse the response to the intervention in Gaza could have been.
What would even be the parameter to assess that?

In many countries other than US, at this point the political establishment would have successfully solicited the president not to seek re-election, whereas here it's kind of given for granted that it had to be Biden.
The Democratic apparatus actively contributes to this sense of inevitability and this lack of enthusiasm in their voters. It didn't have to be this way.

@blackmyron All you need to read is Project 2025 to see how truly awful it will be. It's like a hit list by a mob boss to go after his perceived enemies (basically ANYONE who did not worship at his altar) meets Stephen "Patrick Bateman" Miller's ultimate fantasies. And the press just wants to make this a horse race no matter what:

That is an actual headline. As NY Pitchbox says, he cannot keep up with the headlines of actual "news outlets" because they are so insane. It's the pandemic, and all the mismanagement that nutball did from Day 1 never happened. Sometimes I just want to find the exit door to all of this.

I would pick Cornel West in the poll, but to be frank if I could legitimately vote for the meteor in the election, I would.

I really don't get this now. Less and less as the days go on.

The Democratic side has basically called for the dismissal of several senior cabinet members, including the literal Prime Minister. They have explicitly been called major barriers to peace. Yes, there's a question of how seriously the US will hold Israel to its new critiques. And obviously all these things are being said months and months to late. Still, even this diplomatic pressure has slowed the movement towards obliterating Rafah. It's equally inescapable that Trump is not saying these things at all. Trump is claiming that anyone who doesn't back the position of someone recognized within the context of Israeli politics as an ethno-fascist "hates their religion."

Can you honestly not imagine things going worse? For real?
