Old school punk, like the Sex Pistols, is great. And 3 new punk bands are OK (Amen, Distillers, Sum 41[Becuase they play metal as well]).
I haven't heard much Hardcore Punk or Hardcore, but the ones that I've heard are:

    Black Flag (Truly Amazing)
    Dillinger Escape Plan (Utter rubbish)
    Finch (Not good at all)
Atretyu(Sp.) (Are metal imo. Well, Right Side of the Bed is, not so sure about the Crimson. Other than that, they are big Metal fans inc. CoF.)

Metal is not 1 genre, there are millions!

So I'll start with Commercial and work down.

    Nu Metal:
Linkin Park (Funny, getting more metal, but not brilliant)
Slipknot (Get better with every album, and experiment with things that set them apart in the genre.)
Ill Nino (Who classed this band as Nu Metal needs a kick in the head, as thy're heavier than most HM bands.)
    Spineshank (More Industrial than NM)
    Korn (Crap)
    Limp Bizkit (Worse)
    Deftones (Utter balls)
SOAD (Good for NM. They add to it as Slipknot do)
Evanescence (Appeals to the goth in me. So Goth Metal really)
    Rasmus (WHO?)

    Heavy Metal:
Sabbath (Pioneers. Truly brilliant, when they felt like it.)
Maiden (Most of their riffs were stolen from a little known band called Tokyo Blade. Ask TokyoBlade on here.)
Metallica (Only heard a few, but not very brilliant.)
Priest (One of the best British Metal bands ever.)
    Sepultura (Good until Max left.)
    Machine Head (Can be good.)

    Industrial Metal:

Rammstein (Nuttiest band ever. And good)
Einstadin Neubaten (Sp.) (More Germans as nutty as Rammstein)
Mazza (Still not sure whether Industrial or Goth)
    NIN (^)

    Goth Metal:

    Mazza (See above)
    NIN (^)
Rasmus (If these are goth then I'm the president.)
    Evanescence (Good.)
Nightwish (Have some very good songs)

    Extreme Metal:

Dimmu Borgir (Good, lacks vocal coolness.)
CoF (Possibly best. Good at all corners.)

    Thrash:

    Venom (Pioneers, and Good)
    Metallica (See under HM)
    Anthrax (Good)
    Napalm Death (Very quick)
    Megadeth (OK)

    Black Metal:

    Satyricon (Very good. Also nutters.)
    Gorgoroth (^)
    Emperor (True gods)
Burzum (Varg was good until he killed Euronymous)
    Mayhem (Always there)
Carpathian Forest (Good at times. Haven't heard the rest)

    Death Metal:

In Flames (Happiest Death Metallers possible. Also SW fans)
Arch Enemy (Heavy Vocals than most others, and with a female singer)
Deicide (And who said that all of America was Christian?)

I would do more but I can't be bothered.

Hey, come on, Sex pistols got banned from playing in every venue in Britain, so they played on a boat outside Buckingham Palace. They wanted to shoot the queen. They made a really good version of the national anthem. And they got it to No1 in the Charts, so there was nothing at No1, as no one was allowed to write it.

Yeah but, Crass and Rudimentary Peni had alot more purpose to their music. I think they should be considered the Punk Rock Icons not Sex Pistols.

Make sure to give ratings of all the bands that you see!
According to magazines, Judas Priest are the best band so far, followed by Sabbath.

And Alselmo(Sp?) has hit back over the "White Power" and Hitler Gestures thing by saying...
"What the **** is a Hitler-esque gesture? I just think that the reporter has it in for me.
Or the fact that I have done so much for metal, whether it be in Pantera, Down or Superjoint Ritual. And why would I shout White Power at a load of skinheads?"

That was what he said to Kerrang! Magazine.

will do, can't promise I can give a good review of Judas Priest though. I didn't like them as a kid because of Rob Halford and he's singing for them again.

I was trying to get tickets for it this year for Pittsburgh, but wasn't able to get off work. My cousin and a couple of his friends went, I'd probably get a ride with them.

I don't like metal all that much, but I would have loved to see Black Sabbath and Judas Priest.

I'll be going next year if Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, or Tool perform.
