Does anybody have any suggestions on the hat part of this costume? I can't find any other pictures of it either, so any that you guys have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

Oh, and the fabric you should use for the shirt is 95% Cotton, %5 Lycra/Spandex.
I used cotton, which is only 2-way stretch, but I'm presently trying to track down some of the better, yet more expensive material, especially since I've figured the pattern out now.

Cotton Lycra will also make a good fabric for the costume. Over here, it cost SGD13.90/~USD9 per metre at Spotlight.

    Hello!!!
I will be getting the 12" Padme doll from Ep.II dressed in the battle suit...I have found someone who has it in hand...but unfortunatly, he wants to make three times the actual price of the doll out of me....but I want her so mad that I guess I don't mind...since I will pay her with the money I will make out of a custom Naboo Nightown for the Amidala dolls :) so it is in fact a trade of the dress for the doll :)

Anywas...once I get my doll, I want to sew her her cape...I know exactly how it close, with snaps, as seen in the recent pics..and I know the right "panel"(or call that however you want) must go under the left "panel" etc....but I just don't know HOW is made the desing when laying on the floor...do you have an idea ??

I do know that the bottom of the cape is round when she wears it...but my question is - HOW round is the cape when on the floor ? Oval? just a litle round ? a V ending ? I do have the right material to have it look right on my doll, and I dyed it very well...but I have nor much of fabric and don,t want to use for nothing...

Spitsweet: Look back one page, there is link to a great shot of the cape from the back on a dummy. It looks like two halves of a round oval (ie not a circle but longer but not overly long) or rather like two halves of a tear drop sewn down the centre with the pointy ends left free to wrap over the front. And it looks like some pleats are sewn in at the shoulder to stay in place.

Curious as to the "it's not a one piece" mention as I don't think anyone on this thread thought it was. Now Zam Wessel's costume has been thought of as a one piece.. but is actually two.

Oh and I figured out where my confusion of the riding pants came from! I was mixing memories of various costumes I've worn, and what I was thinking of that was the same pattern as the pants here (except for an invisible zip in back) was a costume I wore as a body double for Cleopatra 2525. There were actually ostrich *leather* and lycra pants... but still the same pattern with the centre front seam:)

WOAH! I would never have found that the cape is two pieces sewn together- Thanks !! but wouldn't help my project at alll...remember that it is a sewing project for a 12" doll...and the sewing in the midle wouldn't look nice (too big) for a 12" doll...I don,t see wy there would be problems cutting the fabric already in one pieces...you ?

I also need to find a solution to make the top..yes the doll does comes with a top..BUT since the arm bands are removable, I want to sew her a torned shirt so I can put the arm bands with both shirt....I just really don,t know how to do the "lining desing" at the bust..does it need to be cut in many parts all sewn together to make the front ?

Looking at it I don't think there'd be a problem with cutting it as one, as it looks like there is a slight v/u where the sides join, meaning you can hem it if you just make a slash and still have it look like it should :)

I'd think you'd need to cut the square with the pin tucks out seperately (unless you just wanted to top stitch the lines) but the next line could be done by pinning and tucking the fabric on the inside to the shape, just to save from more fiddly cutting in the scale youa re working on:) I'd do this if I had a princess seam on a top in this size too;)

I'm making a tutorial for this costume at http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~meerdia/meerdia and I would appreciate any costuming tips, pictures of your costume, diagrams, patterns etc. to enhance this site. I would of course site you as the person who gave me the info and link to your site if you have one! I'm still working on a lot of the parts to the site, but I especially would like different people's ideas on how you did the shawl, boots/shin guards, blaster(s), belt and armbands! Send info to meerdia@cc.wwu.edu

Any tips on how to do the hair if your hair isn't quite long enough to make big loops in a ponytail?

I know we've talked about this hairstyle in thefemale hairstyles thread, but I don't remember if we said anything about short hair. You could always just do what the costume department did, and wrap fake hair around loops of foam, then bobby pin it to your head.

I still have a question about the cape.

    see this pic ? : http://padawansguide.com/padme/white/padme_white_promo1.jpg

Well, you can really see that the cape's right "panel" goes over Padme's right shoulder.

From what I have been trying to look in the movie...When Padme is in the cauldron...it seems like the left panel of the cape is also over Padme's left shoulder..I thought the left Panel was just worn under the cape..
but from the back photo from the exhibit, it *looks* like it is under the the cape ..
    any thoughts ?

It could just be that whomever dressed the mannequin that time put it on differently. In the MOM exhibit, the costumes weren't always displayed every time like they should have been (Slave Leia skirt plates being reversed, and the Boba Fett shoe spats being put on the wrists instead are two mistakes I've heard about).

Help, I accidently got ink on the vinyl on my shinpads while in the process of making them. Any ideas how I might get it off, I tried some hairspray but it didn't work very well.

No, hairspray probably won't work because there aren't any fibers involved.

My local fabric store (and Wal-Mart) carry a stain remover called Magic Wand and it works miracles! It comes in a tube that looks like a "glue stick" and the contents are solid just like that. You rub it on and then wipe it off--Voila!

If you can find the stuff--I can't recommend it enough. Good Luck!

I just got some new Padme pouches made from a good friend of mine in the Midwest Garrison. He made a mold and figured out how to wet form the leather on them. So they look like the ones in the film. If anyone is interested, he's still got the molds and is willing to make them for whoever wants any. He'll sell them at a very reasonable price too. If you want to get in contact with him about the details and to look at some of the pics, PM me and I'll give you his e-mail address.

Okay, I finished my hair... my hair is the perfect color, but it's impossible to put real hair into that hairdo... and seriously, they used a hairpiece for the movie anyway, so that's what I did. I wrapped long pieces of fake hair around rope 1.5 meters of rope filler, then twisted it up and secured it to a large metal barette clip, then I just put my hair in a bun and secure the hairpiece over my real hair with bobby pins. There's a pic on my website. http://www.cc.wwu.edu/~meerdia/meerdia/

For the hat, look for one of those russian style hats...that's what some people are using.

As for the cape, I used a white blanket, and draped it so it made a v-shape at the bottom.

I have pictures that I will post eventually, the problem is getting them on a site :) I've been quite the lazy one.
