Hey, Spitsweet - I was so excited to hear that you found another picture, but either it's just my computer or it's not, but I'm not seeing either picture that you posted.

Almost finished with my third reproduction of this costume (for a customer). I can't wait to get pictures! It is the best one so far!

I think I've finally figured out the perfect way to accomplish the skirt. If anyone is having problems and wants more details, PM or email me [face_clown]

OK, since so many people have been PMing me for directions on my skirt, I have decided to post the direction on my webpage, with diagrams. This will make it easier to read through and re-create.

This method of making the skirt doesn't require a pattern, just some careful measurements on your part. [face_clown]

Give me a day or two to get it drawn up, and then I will post the web page on this thread for everyone to see!

    Let me be the first...

In IMAX.. definitely a light blue shade. Even in the desert where it appeared to be mainly white, it was like a baby blue colour.

Didn't see a single shot which seemed to indicate it was any other colour.

    Dang you Woofer!

Yes, I nearly rushed home to write this. Lelila herself swore at me ;)

IMAX was a great oppurunity also to see the cape detail :)

Definately check it out if you want to see things for details :)

I don't believe that, the outfit she wears under the cape is white, Trisha Biggar said it at the Convention.
We've learned from the Blue Naboo dress that the colors change from the actual dress worn by Natalie and after the film gets the Digital effects.
the baby naboo blue dress is icy blue in the dvd photos but a AOTC book state that the dress is sea-green.

5 stories beg to differ. And saying Trish said that is unfair. You have no proof.

Blue/Sea blue is one thing. YOu can't go from White to that blue, no amount of film or digital. Unless teh filmakers decided to change it in hindsight. Which then it should be Blue.

Woofer brought up a good point about teh original Star Trek:

Captain Kirks gold shirt was actually a green, but showed up as a gold. But no one makes Green ones because it was gold on the show. (Correct me if I read that wrong earlier Woofer :) )

So according to film...its blue. The photographs had flash on them, even made the sand look wrong.

    IMO :)

    Ahhh! Who cares???

This has been debated to death, and no one is going to change their opinion on the subject.

Short of seeing the actual costume in person, there's no way for any of us to be 100% certain of the color.

If you think it's blue, make your version blue. If you think it's white, make your version white.

I personally have tried both ways, and happen to think they both look lovely. [face_clown]

    Hear-hear Mrs_MayimNaar! I agree with you.

Actually... I believe that this gorgeous gown is made from some "Star Wars Universe" material that changes from white to blue to gray... etc. Objects in this universe are always playing tricks on us it seems, why not magical colored clothing? LOL

Honestly though, I vote white. I think that it looks sooo much better white than blue. Also, there is already a very blue Tatooine gown. This one is referred to as the white one just because it gets too confusing when you just say blue. It also gets annoying to have to write down stuff like: "whitish-bluish one," "mid-riff baring one," or "the one that goes under the cape..." etc.

Make it however you like, no one way is wrong.

You can make any outfit any way you want, and any colour. Thats your perogitive as a costume designer and wearer. :)

Like the Anakin tabbards, many wear black, when in fact its brown. It all depends how important screen accurate you want it. You can make it purple if you really want. :)

My point was merely to point out that the actual dress on screen is blue--mind you not a stark blue--, as evidenced by hundreds now seeing on the huge crystal clear IMAX. Not to tell yu how to make your dresses :)

Please don't take it as such :)

Go see IMAX to see this..as well as teh 50 foot Yoda ;)

Hey, I haven't been keping up on this board much, but seeing the IMAX version last night gave me an idea...so forgive me if anyone's mention this already :)

I always wondered how it seemed her hood was so freaking big but when she wore it it fit tightly around her head...I just figured "oh, the magic of movies--there's probably really two costumes" or something.

On the IMAX screen, the "tassel" (silver looking thing on the end of her hood) really stood out. At least, I had always thought it was a tassel, like just a decorative thing.

But I started thinking that it didn't really look like it hung off the end of the hood...more like a strip underneath it...I'm thinking that maybe it's a long scarf-like strip that, when she puts the hood on, wraps around the neck, pulling the hood tight and giving it that wrinkly look around the neck.
Does that make any sense (I tried to explain it clearly but my brain is not functioning to full capacity this morning...)

    Anyway, just a thought.

Whether or not it ends up being what they did for the movie, i'm seriously considering adding it to my outfit so i can get that effect. I tried to wear the hood up and it's just too freakin' big! :)

I had a thought while watching the IMAX version of the film for the 2nd time last night...

When Anakin was helping Padme out of the rickshaw, I noticed for the first time that her cloak is fully lined -- and it looks like the lining may be what the hood is actually a part of. I noticed in that scene for the brief moment where you could see her dress and a snippet of hood at the same time that they looked like different colors, even though they are both in similar shadow. And that the hood looked more like the color of the lining.

    Any thoughts?

That's what I thought too sg! The tight thing covering her head does look unusually like the lining in that cloak. IMAX was great for details (unless you were making the picnic dress)

SG, that's what I've kinda been thinking all along! The beauty of IMAX, 50 foot close-ups of costumes...

SG I kinda had thought that about the lining too. Hmmmmmm.... must research more. I wish I could see it on Imax--Orlando (my neck of the woods) didn't get it  I haven't had a chance to drive into Tampa :(

I posted some pics of my dress and headpiece (without the bun cover pieces) It's not totally accurate, but it was fun to make :)

You can see it here Click Me

In case you can't tell from the pics (they aren't great) but I opted to make mine a light blue. Hope you like it! :) Ferd

So good to know I'm not crazy...
Well, I am crazy, but my thoughts on the hood of this costume aren't the damning evidence.
    :p
