SG You crack me up! [face_laugh]]
I did llike the "pullstring" theory as well.
Could iit possibly be detachable? It certainly is a mystery.

The fabric for the version you see pics of was a pale blue double knit. I also made a version out of a light weight blue/gray slightly crinkled shantung. I loved the color and the drape--but in my opinion I think the slight stretch to the knit helped a lot in the fit and final look of the garment.

I'm so jealous!! I don't get to see the IMAX version...stupid Idaho!! :(
    lol

OK, to fill you in: I completed my costume last week in time for Halloween!! It was sooo awesome! Although I didn't get the silver pattern painted on--that's still left to do. But it looked GREAT! In my opinion, anyway. I'll get pictures up soon. I really really want some help with the top wrap shirt thing though. I mean, it worked out ok, but if you saw what the pieces look like, you'd laugh your head off! It was just a random "cut a little here, cut a little there" trying to make it look right. I'll elaborate more later.

    -sky

BTW, Ferd, I love the head on the ground!! rofl

I finish my top! It's so cute! I got an A- on it even tho I'm really bad at sewing stright. But everyone says it's really good! Oh well, I'll post a picture of it soon as I can. The only thing I have to figure out now is finding the same fabric i used for my shirt! Oops... But that fabric isn't the best thing to use for a skirt, it isn't even strerchy, and it's really thin.

Wow Ferd !!!! that is so great !!!
I was one of those who terribly defended the color of this outfit-White.....but after seeing your pics, I realized that this outfit could easily have a shade of pale blue to it.

So- I went ahead without thinking of what I'd be doing to a my doll,s White Tatooine dress ad put acrylic dark blue paint in cold water and I put my Outfit ( well just the top and sleeve cuz I have to re do the skirt..cuz of those damn pleats...)

and now my outfit is as light blue as you, I didn't want to have it too blue though, cuz when I'll watch the film again, I was affraid that I would see it white again ;) LOL

Hi - I've been checking out this thread and may make this white/blue Tatooine dress in the future. I don't know if this pattern was ever mentioned, but I thought that Vogue pattern 7365 might be able to be altered to make the skirt?

    [image=http://www.sewdirect.com/ptn_7365.jpg]

(you'd have to combine some pieces of the pattern to get rid of the seam and flip it around so the gather is in the front of course)

Just an idea I thought I'd share. I picked up the pattern for the wrap while I was at JoAnn's today since McCalls and Simplicity are 5 for $5.00. (Vogue was 50% off)

Just out of curiosity, where are you at? JoAnn's here (Soutehrn CA) was selling Vogue for only $5, as well as the standards 5/$5. It was the ultimate stock-up sale. I had to limit myself to only 20 patterns. :)

Pivy - I'm in Northern California. Sorry for the goof on Vogue. I was charged $5.00 for it ;)

I think I ended up getting close to 15 patterns myself!

OOOUCH!!! after seeing the VHS....it IS BLUE....bummer,I wanted this outfit to be white because it reminds me SO much of Leia in ANH- cuz of the buns, the hood laying over her shoulders, the long extra large sleeves and the boots uner it :p

it IS blue when you see her arm when Anakin is helping her to get out of the litle car (to see Watto)

I must admit that I was confused when I saw her walking in the sunlight to say goodbye to Anakin....I mean that there is a shot where the outfit becomes BEIGE, next it turns white, then it turn VERY ligth blue, then it turns DARK blue in the full shadow....

    kay_dee,

I don't know about the pattern for this dress, but that one view looks great for the pastel dress! I'll have to look into it further.

I really don't mean to beat a dead horse--and PLEASE don't think I'm starting another feud--but on the Web Documentary P-19 you can see this costume on the rack in the background when Tricia is discussing p-19 and you can really tell the color of the costume--a light kinda sky blue.
Just a helpful observation :) Ferd

Oh my gosh sky, you're really right, that middle view looks perfect for the rainbow dress! Can't believe I didn't notice that earlier! :)

One thing about that scene where shes saying good bye....watch the colour between the dark shadow and the bright area...still blue. Light does that. Even Anakins costume plays colour changer. :)

    If I were mean, I'd do a happy dance and say I told you so....but I won't.

The white idea for it to resemble leias...maybe thats what they did, but also decided on the really light azure...I dunno :)

I would love to hear about it, its one of the more simplier ones.

Yeah, I also thought that Vogue pattern looked similar to the rainbow/lake dress - but I haven't studied that one closely enough to really say.

I think I just liked the Vogue pattern becaue it gives me a clearer idea on how to go about making that gather work in the front. (I know a lot of you seamstresses figure it out already ;) - but I'm still a bit of a novice when it comes to these eloborate costumes :) )

I think Natalie Portman is the most beautiful girl in USA, besides she is an good actress.
I hope someday I have her in that kind of situation, I mean in the shot of pic-nic.
May the Force be with you!

I made a headpiece for this dress--it is by no means wonderfully accurate. I made it with very little pics to go on. You can see a pic if you go to my website (in my signature) Once there, go to the Midriff dress and you'll see a pic on my fake head form. That pic was without the side "bun cover pieces" which I use a metallic silver wired ribbon to kind of cradle the buns and attach to the piece.

I will probably attempt to make it again in the future-since now I can see it anytime on the DVD.

    Ferd :)

Is this costume really hard to make?

    It depends.

I studied this costume for 2 months before i actually made it. I looked at pictures from every possible angle and then i made it. It came out REALLY good too. The way i made it wasnt too hard at all. It took me about 12-14 hours to make. (2 days)

I still would like a headpiece for it.
