I know, I know, my hair looks terrible in all those pictures...haha, oh well. What do you guys think of my cloak? I found that fabric and loved it so I decided it'd be cheaper to make a cloak out of it than to go looking for fabric that looks more like the cloak in the movie (because I know it'll cost much more)...lol

Those kind of links won't work -- you have to link to your photo album, rather than hotlinking to your actual photos [face_clown]

Huh, that's weird...cuz they show up for me. Well here's a link to the photo album then:

I hope that link works. I dunno...I'm gonna upload them to my angelfire.com site and just post links here, because I don't think that photo album link will work. :)

    QueenLani, it's gorgeous!

Jedi_Sam, I tried your tutorial to make this for Halloween and it, well, didn't work. Not because of your tutorial, but rather because I am, as Obi-Wan would say, a "pathetic life form." lol Actually my biggest mistake was trying to do it in 2 days, when I needed my mom to sew it for me (she's faster than I am on the machine), so I had to explain everything to her. But I resolve not to be an idiot any longer!! So I might take a few more pictures first for reference, but then I'm ripping it apart and starting over, or so is my plan.

Except the skirt, I like my skirt. But that's the only thing that looks good.

I'll probably upload all my pictures to my website, post the link here, and then ask for suggestions. I can learn! **triumphant music** :-D

    Hi,
I am trying to make the "white" top and I had a question:
Is there anyone who has a suggestion about who making the signs at the back of the cape ?

Somewhere around the middle of this thread, there was a discussion about that. A stencil, made either from one of the wingdings found in the fonts on your computer or from "copying" it from one of the images.

While slow motioning through the arrival on Tatooine scene (Chapter 27 on the DVD), I noticed something that I couldn't remember being mentioned--when she's climbing out of the rickshaw, the draping on her skirt doesn't drape like it would if that front gathered part were free. There are wrinkles on the side when her left leg moves forward that make me think that the gathered section is sewn together. (The gathered drape would hide the seam.)

    Anyone else's opinion?

EDIT: This picture shows what I mean: http://www.padawansguide.com/padme/cape/forbidden_cape2.jpg. The wrinkles in question, the ones that make me think that the front gathers are stiched in place some how, are the ones almost parallel to the bottom edge of the image.

That's just the kind of thing that happens when you try to spread your legs farther apart than the width of the skirt you're wearing.

Ah, but if those folds/gathers in the front are hanging free and not sewn in place, wouldn't there be enough fabric in the skirt for that wrinkling not to happen? That extra fabric should add more width to the skirt for moves like that.

http://www.karmic-retribution.net/bluecastle/possibleseam.jpg points out what I think is a seam normally hidden by the folds of fabric.

hmmm I see that line now.

I would say it's just a shadow, but considering the way the tension folds go... Wow, I'm really not sure. If only I had CIA-caliber photo editing software. :)

Well, for continuity's sake, wouldn't it make sense to have the drape tacked down? At least, that seems logical to me. Has anyone seen those shirts (I know they sell them at Meijer) where there's a ruffle around the neckline that continues down the front center of the shirt? Perhaps this skirt is like that--the drapery in front is actually one piece with the skirt. Maybe that's what we're seeing??

Yay! I was able to help somebody! :) That makes me feel special.

Yeah, I just made it too big and twisted it back toward me. Recommendation: don't be lazy like me; actually sew it! I ran out of time and just twisted a hair rubber band around it--it was really loose all day, I thought it was going to fall out!

    :)

what extra fabric? the drape is a seperate piece. I believe hooked over the waistband with some sort of fastening device hidden by the rhinestone triangle thingy.

I don't think it's a separate piece. Or rather, I don't care, b/c the way I did it looked very movie-accurate (based on what it looked like on me in RL and what it looked like in all the pics I used for reference). So that's all that matters. Of course, I still need to do a rhinestone thing. I don't know...this worked though!

I don't believe it's a seperate drape, either. However the skirt is fastened is hidden underneath the rhinestone decoration in the front. There's a flat rectangle that is underneath the rhinestone piece that covers up all the edges of the gathers. (The decoration is attached just at the top, because if you watch her moving out of the rickshaw in slow motion, you can see it swing forward at one point.)
