Palpatine knows the unnatural powers?

To me it just raises the question of why Anakin so willingly goes along with Sidious.

Sidious tells him he can save Padme.

Then after Mace is gone he tells him that he doesn't know how to save her but that they'll work on it.

Why???? By that I mean - why did Lucas have him say two different things? Why not earlier just have him tell Anakin that the Dark Side has ways to save people and that together they can discover the secrets ie admit he doesn't know but there is a way.

When they speak after Mace is dead Anakin should be screaming something like "What do you mean you don't already know the secret??????"

He knows Padme dies in child birth - so he doesn't have much time. His whole motivation to that point has been to save Padme and Sidious has just told them he doesn't even know how.

And yet he never blinks.

 

I don't know about the mechu-deru; I would think Sidious would want to keep as much of the original Anakin tissue as possible, instead of "transforming it into machinery".

I'm looking at Legacy as proof that the Sith could in fact keep someone from dying.
