I may think they are dumb as hell, but I agree I just wish they had some compassion which they obviously don’t

@Darth Chiznuk - The Johns Hopkins website has some breathing exercises you can try. There are a bunch of warnings so you might want to run them by your doctor first.

So the UK has taken Slovakia off its no quarantine list. Not much of a surprise, as our cases have ballooned in the second wave (still relatively better than many European countries). I'm really pleased we managed to get my parents over here in August to see their baby granddaughter and attend her christening. We were hoping they could come again at some point before Christmas, but that was a long shot anyway. Hey ho. :(

Saw that earlier. Denmark and Iceland are in the mix as well. Glad your parents got to see your daughter!

@LAJ_FETT Thanks! I’m actually seeing a physical therapist to help with breathing exercises and such. Again I don’t wish this on my worst enemy. Wear a mask, people!

I’m sorry you’re dealing with that. Yours is not the first such story I’ve heard.

Have you seen a Pulmonary specialist too? What about a CT scan of your lungs or echo of your heart? @Vaderize03 - suggestions? Best of luck to you :)

Hang in there @Darth Chiznuk has hopefully you get over it these next few months fully. We actually had our first case of a staff member getting it at school this past week. They are on the other side of the building and the "contact tracing" said I was never near them but still always puts a shiver down your back when you realize someone in your employee building had it. Also was another reminder to keep what I am doing including having lunch by myself. I feel bad really bad about it as I told everyone it's I am not being anti social at all just my both and I thanks to working at schools are exposed and would absolutely besides ourselves if we got someone sick.

And yes wear your masks...AND GET YOUR FLU SHOTS PEOPLE! :)

Edit: And I say this as United is now offering free COVID-19 testing to anyone going to Hawaii as a way to get around the two week quarantine:

I’m sorry to hear about this @Darth Chiznuk

Unfortunately, it seems you have the dubious honor of being one of the people who suffered significant damage to your lungs courtesy of the virus. The above suggestions are sound, and I agree with all of them. It’s frightening to hear that you went from running to now having to use a CPAP machine—that’s terrible.

Have you had any testing done on your heart? I’d be interested to know if any of your symptoms were due to lingering inflammation of the muscle (myocarditis) as a result of infection by the virus. I’m hoping that over the next 3-6 months, your symptoms will recede. Sadly, people in my area are starting to not wear masks either. These are scary times.

I wish you all the best. Please let me know if there’s anything I can do for you.

EDIT: the governor of MO is asymptomatic now, but there’s no guarantee he’ll stay that way. He’s a douche-canoe for sure.

Hang in there buddy. You've have a rough 2020. We're here for you, and more importantly - sounds like you have solid support at home. Healing takes time. Glad you are seeing doctors so your condition can be monitored.

I have not. Should I? As I said I’ve been a pretty healthy person so this is all new to me and honestly scares the hell out of me. I could mention it to my doctor to see what he says.

EDIT: My wife just reminded me that I did in fact have an ultrasound of my heart and they found no inflammation.

It's amazing that people still - 6 months into this nightmare - think that death is the only horrific outcome of this pandemic, and that because the death rate is still technically low, despite there being 200K deaths, there's no health crisis and it's all overblown hysteria.

Just willful ignorance at this point. Our schools here in town went back last week, and are already closing due to 1-2 kids coming down with confirmed cases. The town parents groups that I follow are a mixed bag of people either understanding fully the mess we're in, or outraged that either our government hasn't figured this out yet, or are succumbing to media driven fear. Even seen a few old classmates who I thought were rather smart start posting anti-vax nonsense on social media en mass.

It can't hurt to mention it. There has been evidence that COVID can damage your heart which might contribute to feeling fatigued.

Sorry, I just updated my post after my wife reminded me I did have an echocardiogram. It was like a month ago and they didn’t find any inflammation.

I'm sorry what you're going through, @Darth Chiznuk.

Both my parents work in education and thanks to Orange County's outbreak being downgraded in severity the schools are clear to reopen. My dad is going back next week and he's doing basically the same thing he was doing remotely except in a classroom with students, so it's completely pointless. My mom is going back the week after next and she works in special ed. and there doesn't seem to be a plan to deal with them. Apparently for her there will be as few as two kids going to school. Here's hoping.

They don't have any pre-existing risk factors that I know of, but they are older people. I swear if anything happens to them, I'm going to use the life insurance money to get a good lawyer and go scorched earth on those ****ing schools, the districts, the county, and the state. The reopening now is insane and there is guaranteed to be a positive case among the students and faculty and staff. I work for the California State University and they rightly extended remote learning into next year.

The complete disregard for the safety of educators is frankly sickening. I swear if I hear another person argue that schools can open because the virus doesn’t affect young people I might scream. I’m just thankful my own college age girls are taking the year off. For their own safety and everyone they may have come around.

My son is special ed and it feels like everyone is pushing special ed kids back. My son is doing great at home. I want him home. But if his class goes back he'd have to get a new teacher or go back and I've been in his class you can't tell some of those kids not to touch. It's very scary. He loves his current teacher. Changing teachers could lead to disaster. Letting him go to school could get us sick. No good choices. Luckily we haven't been given a date yet, he's phase 2, but phase 1 has been cleared next month :(

Our special needs kids are coming back next week. They will stay in their classrooms all day and I will still teach them remotely when they have their once a week session with me. The rationale there is that they don’t want them exposed to any more people than necessary but I am hoping they at least get to go outside, because staying in one place all day sounds awful. Parents had the option of keeping them home, and some have.

Our experience so far has been the SPED students are just like all everyone else. Some of them doing fantastic. Some are doing okay. Some are drowning and in the case of the SPED kids, that can be a real problem as some of them really cannot take care of themselves. We really do not have students like that in the school I work at but other schools I know do and they are desperate to get the kids back in somehow. The parents simply are overwhelmed in every case unless there is someone that can be there to help them.

In general my wife and I are so torn on this. In the one sense we are absolutely desperate to get the kids back. I will be blunt, I miss the blank out of them. We try our best during the day to make this all fun for us with them not there. We had a staff spirit week last week highlighted with a taco truck on Friday, our having a homecoming week for us and the kids in a few weeks, have zoom yoga classes, place music in the hallway during periods, have a social distance disco after the last period on Fridays etc. We do our best but everyone deep down is miserable without the kids because well it is not a school without them. We open up afternoon tutoring hours for some of them to come instead of doing it over zoom (especially for the hands on stuff) as I had a few the other day for the first time and it was just great to see them in person even though we were all wearing masks and sitting way far away from each other in a classroom. Our plan is continue slowly bringing them back in until the end of October when we could go to hybrid but the numbers are showing there is no way that is happening until the spring as we talked about before.

@Darth Chiznuk - I hope that this does go away over time for you and that the suggestions of others help.

I agree with @DarkGingerJedi - there are things that can be just as bad as death that aren't being talked about enough.

As someone who still suffers from the effects of Lyme disease, the long term symptoms other COVID-19 survivors report terrifies me. My memory and fatigue are bad enough. I honestly don't know if getting COVID-19 would kill me or not. As it is, I sleep on weekends after working 5 days a week from 9-5pm. If I do any extra activity, I have to 'budget' for it by planning time to rest before and after. So for those of you who have been relatively healthy for years and are now suffering from this, I am so very sorry. I know all too well how bad symptoms like this can be and what 'living' with it looks like.

And yes, that's also why people not wearing masks angers me so much. The lack of care for your fellow human being is atrocious- most especially from the so-called religious ones.
