Perfect Dark and Goldeneye are alike in many ways, at least with the same mutli player levels and classic guns available, but the question is which is better. Perfect Dark has better deaths, a few of the guns are better.

Yet Goldeneye is so far the most popular Bond game and one of the most remembered and favored games of the N64.

I like both but I wanted to see what fellow gamers thought and talk about these two great games.

Oh and I most say that I prefer Elvis over Joanna Dark any day.

This has been a topic of debate among my friends and I for some time. It's just so impossible to decide! If I were forced to choose one though I would choose Perfect Dark. I love that all the weapons have a secondary fire, plus no one can beat me when I have a SuperDragon. :D

hello _Xantos_! good thread! I would have to say that Perfect Dark will always reign supreme! I liked Goldeneye as my favorite shooter for a long time, and always wondered if any game would compare to it. Then PD came, and it was incredible, and it still is a blast to play. I also like the characters in PD better than James Bond and the gang. I personally dont like Bond movies (Goldeneye was the best out of em though) so naturally I liked the PD cast ecspecially Joanna and Elvis, both great characters, but in the end I would have to say I like Joanna better.

    Greetings, blokes.

    Here's my two cents:

Bond was the better multiplayer game (even though PD had more, and better, options available) because it didn't hardly lag (if at all) with 4 players running around. If I recall, PD could get funky with 4 players (especially if running around with some bots). There were even a few 4-player co-op missions that you couldn't even play (even with extra RAM chip installed) because the game would crash to a black screen when the level started! What's that about???

The single player game is tough to call... Flip a coin on that one, though I recall PD being one heck of a lot harder than Bond ever was.

In the end, I think I prefer Bond over PD if only because I have less negative memories revolving around frustration from it.

Has nightmares of trying to finish certain PD levels under certain times to get cheats,

Good point about the lag in PD ben_ethus. That was the thing that bugged me the most about it. ALthough I still love it to death.

    Perfect Dark = Goldeneye wannabe

PD was still a good game, though.

Perfect Dark would have been the better game, however that god damned blurry vision thing ruined the multiplayer expierence, since after you took enough hits, you couldn't see squat, and thus, had no chance at making a last-ditch comeback.

So, Goldeneye will have to remain the champion, since you can be down to your last health unit, then grab a vest and an RCP90 and win the game !

    Greetings, blokes.

Good call on the Blur-O-Vision in PD, 2ndQuest. I'd almost completely forgot about that. It was always fun to torment your human enemies in multiplayer with that and watch them get angry when it became darn near well impossible to play like a rational person. That crap tended to last for a real long time, too, if I remember.

A favorite Bond technique was dropping those pesky proximity bombs over the entire course of the map, so it became well nigh impossible to move without blowing up. Heh heh... Good times... (The only bummer was that the old bombs would tend to disappear after you threw enough new ones out. Curse you, Limited N64 Memory Space!!!)

    Misses crazy 4-player N64 action,
    Yours Truly

RCP90 was the best weapon in the game besides the 2x DD44s.

The frame rate was much more stable in Goldeneye. I remember seeing PD multiplayer go at 4 frames per second at certain times [face_plain]

*remembers the time all his friends and him got together for PD fest*

I kinda liked the nausea thing. Actually, we all kinda liked to set things to only tranquilizers. Very interesting...

The Blurry Vision should have been a disablable option.

I wouldn't have minded it so much if it was restricted to trank darts- but it happened even if you got the snot beat out of you by fists, and it lasted too long.

The fact that the blurry vision lasted sometimes AFTER you died and when you respawned you still couldn't see snot was what pissed me off. I really didn't mind it other than that.

    I like both a lot.

This morning I played it after I woke up and shot the civilians for fun in the Chicago level.

I had counted on PD being the better game, you know, since "newer is always better". :p

PD had some very intriguing weapons as opposed to Goldeneye's Bond weapons, but that damn blurriness after getting punched (Not just tranq'd) was annoying. Then, as someone said previously, to respawn and find you were still "stunned" was enough to make me turn a gun on myself in the game, were it possible.

    Goldeneye is the better game.

I'd have to go with Perfect Dark. It had everything Goldeneye had, and more.

LordSilvertouch Thank's for the new title.

Yes I do find the blur affect quite annoying. The guns of PD are amazing however, the deaths are better too. I get a little annoyed when you are pissed off so you shoot a guy repeatedly like 100 times and the blood will ooze out then disappear and ooze out someplace else you didn't shoot.
In Bond it just shows red on the body but both are fun, this is hard.

PD does have more of an environment, and the people can speak.

yeah, the blur stuff was fricken annoying and I always complained about that after death you STILL cant see!? whats with that. I didn't like that (who did?). anyway the single player in PD was WAY better! and since really that only multiplayer game that has kept my attention ever since it came out is SSB I really dont care much about multiplayer, although PD and Bond come in second as far as Multiplayer goes. I would have to say I played Bond more than PD and the levels never seemed to get old. I will say the "Matrix" set up in PD was cool!

It's a very hard choice. I have fonder memories of Goldeneye. It was the first fps that I really got into and all the fun that I had playing it in multiplayer was just priceless.

Perfect Dark was a technically superior game and all the advancements that they made over Goldeneye should have it made it even better, but I never managed to convince my friends to really give it a go and so I didn't have so much fun with the multiplayer.

PD was a great game, especially in the Combat Simulator and with all the cool gadgets that you got to use, but it didn't really have the charm that it's predecessor had and the characters that they had to make up for the game weren't as interesting.

Goldeneye was a more simplistic game and that made it more fun. The great storyline, the music, and the characters just worked great. I still look back fondly at being able to vindictively shoot Valentyn a couple or more times in the groin during the rendez-vous in the Statue level [face_love] .

    Ha!

Yes, the Blurry-Vision effect was annoying in Perfect Dark (but there's no need to cuss over it) ;)

Oh, and in GoldenEye, My favorite level is the Facility!

I loved shooting those dumb guards in the butt and wathcing 'em jump around rubbing their rear in agony! :p Oh, and shootin those scientists were funny too! [face_laugh]

    Multi-Player of course...IS CLASSIC. :)

    Greetings, blokes.

One of the things that PD had over Goldeneye was its ability to save games/characters to the memory card. Such a sweet ability. I also really liked the fact that PD could keep track of your lifetime stats for your multiplayer character in regards to shooting percentages and kills and whatnot. In Goldeneye, you could say you were the biggest guru around, but with PD you could actually prove it by booting up your character and showing everyone your stats.

Nothing like a persistent character to maintain interest in a game... :)

    Fears the Perfect Bot,

So obviously Goldeneye - only Ocarina of time beats it in my view.
