Beign derivative to Gladiator and the Rock aren't the only faults of this score. Technically, it's one of Media Ventures' worst work ever (and most reviews totally panned this score, and I talk about reviews from people that put fair/good ratings on the aforementioned scores). But it's so much fun.

I got the soundtrack for Christmas, and have really enjoyed listening to it about five times already. :D It may not be one of the most artistic scores I've heard, but it's so fun to listen to, kind of addictive, even.

Track 2 "The Medallion Calls" has a melody that reminds me of the middle section of Holst's "Jupiter" from The Planets.

There's a theme in PotC that reminds me of the main theme from the video game Morrowind. "Jupiter" had previously reminded me of that Morrowind theme.

Excuse my ignorance, but I was just wondering what about this score makes it not as good in quality as other scores? I know there are a couple parts that sound very similar to Gladiator, but I've heard lots of scores that have similarities. I dunno, this score is definitely one of my all time favorites and I was just wondering what some of its faults are. Thanks :)

Have not seen the film. Saw the trailers. Saw Alan Silvestri's name. Was psyched. Checked Filmtracks review. Saw Klaus Badelt and Hans Zimmer. Listened to the clips. Was miffed. Called the music crap. Went back, listened to clips again... and again... and again. Realized "Hey, this is catchy stuff."

Okay, enough of the partial sentences. I was a pretty ticked at first when I found out that instead of Alan Silvestri it was going to be a Media Ventures project. When I first listened to the clips at Filmtracks (with the mindframe of "Alan Silvestri was replaced, it's Media Ventures, I THIS SCORE."), I thought it was terrible. Then I went back and listened some more, and it's grown on me. For those who have listened to the clips on the Filmtracks, what are those two main action themes? I've been humming them lately. One is sort of pounding--"Da-da-da-dah-duh-Duh-DUh-DUH." The other one I'm not sure how to describe. Anyway, would you guys recommend me getting the soundtrack? And should I see the film first or does it not matter? Thanks, all.

Oh, and something that begs to be brought up from the first page: The End Credits rocked the hard one!...the POTC credits remind me of the Star Wars credits- they just keep blasting in that high-energy mode and make you leave the theater humming the theme and "rarin'" to go!

Are they on the same "YEAH, BABY!" level as the end credits of, say... "The Rocketeer"?

This album never gets old. If I were playing odds, I'd have to say that I've listened to the soundtrack at least 99 times since I got it for Christmas.

Now I can't wait till the next Pirates of the Caribbean film, I'm sure the music scores will be just as good, maybe better.

Now that I've gotten the soundtrack, I can comment that I'm addicted to it! I've only had it a couple of days and I've been listening to it almost non stop. I hope POTC2's music is just as good.

It's just run of the mill Hans Zimmer. It simultaneously sounds like 10 other scores he's done... only the melodies are not that interesting. If you like the music for POTC, just get Gladiator. It sounds the same only it has much better themes and melodies.

I 100% agree, but not about Gladiator. That score is pretty mediocre for the most part, IMO.

    Meh...

    Sure, it's catchy, BUT...

(and yes, I'm well aware that this is about the most beaten-to-death argument out there...)

It just sounds the same as every other Media Ventures score to me. What makes it so special ?[face_plain]

"It just sounds the same as every other Media Ventures score to me. What makes it so special ?[face_plain] "

The fact that I don't have any other Media Ventures scores?

There are other Media Ventures scores out there that are better. However, I have been listening to some tracks from POTC and I must say it is pretty enjoyable. I do like the energy and fun nature of the main theme... Not sure I would buy it though. Time will tell.

I like the soundtrack a lot. The songs I like best are The Medallion Calls and Will and Elizabeth.

They are not 'songs'. They are 'tracks' or 'cues'

We're playing a medley of PotC music in the orchestra at my school. It's great--I'm the only cellist who can play the 12/8 cello solo! ^_^ (our music calls it "walk the plank"--not sure about the soundtrack though)

Recommended for musicians of all kinds....

What I don't understand is why everyone wants the "End Credits" music so much. It's all in the soundtrack. They just slapped it all back-to-back for the credits.

    \\shrugs\\

BTW, the strings in Track 6 kick butt.

I was gonna post this last week, but silly me, I forgot! :p

Anyhow, our school had a marching band at halftime of the football game for the first time ever. One of the tunes they played was a medley of "The Medallion Calls" and "He's A Pirate". It was a nice arrangement, and sounded really good coming from a marching band.
