Howdy ya'll! I'm surprised Nick hasn't beat me to this, as I've actually sat around the past 24 hours waiting for him to post it. He's probably busy with an actual life though. Anywho, as the title says, you can currently get into the new Pixel Corps summer beta for a mere $50. That's right, one $50 payment for three months, where normally it is $50 per month. This new beta session officially starts in June, but according to what Alex Lindsay said on TWiT the other night, you can get May for free if you sign up now, since new members are given access as soon as they pay.

What is the Pixel Corps you ask? Well rather than waste time I should be spending logging this footage, I'll do some copy-paste magic and give you a link.

Be sure to also check out the Benefits, including hours upon hours of training, and access to over $50,000 worth of software. And of course, thy link to the join page, which will supply you with a coupon to get this amazing deal!

I was in the original Summer Beta in 2004 and rejoined in December 2005 and have been a member ever since. More than the software access and training, I enjoy the friendly community and how helpful everyone is. I have also had the pleasure of meeting several Pixelodians in person and must say it is a truly special guild to be apart of. I spend my $150 a quarter proudly (although I'm probably going to switch to the yearly payment this summer, just to alleviate having it on my mind all year round (and to save a couple hundred bucks a year ;) )).

Hope to see you there! :D

Sounds like a great deal, and I may join. However, for forum rules sake, is advertising like this allowed?

    EDIT:
Maybe i'm mistaken, you aren't advertising. Great opportunity though! Going to join more than likely.

And just to clarify, I do not get anything out of this. There's no referrals or anything. In fact, I'll be making another usual $150 payment about the same time most new comers are paying $50 for the same thing. I owe my knowledge of the Pixel Corps to PadawanNick's original post three long years ago on this very forum (hell, probably same banner too) announcing the first Summer Beta, so I figured I'd pass on the information for those of you not so obsessed with the TWiT network podcasts, where I've now listened to Alex announce this twice :p

This is fantastic news! I needed something to bump up my summer! I might send some PMs your way Nate to learn more from someone who actually uses Pixel Corps.

Feel free to post questions here in the open thread.
There are probably a few other PXC members around to help answer ... plus you never know if other forum members could benefit from reading the Q&A. :)

    Have fun.

Heh heh .... I almost posted about this last night, then didn't get around to it until this morning.
Thanks for beating me to it. :)

I first joined the PXC shortly before the 2004 Summer Beta and have been a member ever since.
Like Nate, I don't gain anything by posting about the PXC, but I have been a very pleased member for 3 years, and being in the PXC was critical in helping me transition from a computer programming career to now working full time in VFX and photography ... so yeah, my opinion will be biased. ;)

The software and training has been mentioned already, but I think one of the biggest things of value in the PXC is the chance to learn and interact regularly with people that generally work with CineAlta F950 HD and Cineon 35mm Film Scans. It's a whole different world from DV, HDV and the lessons learned put a new perspective on DV/HDV work and learning. There are many times that these full 4:4:4 1080p plates get shared to the PXC membership via bit torrent. To me this is huge. I'm into my second year towards my Masters Degree in VFX from Academy of Art University and so far I've had exposure to ONE Cineon frame from that program (everything else has be DV :p )... during that same time I've worked with gigs and gigs of F950 plates as well as 2k & 4k Cineon shots through the PXC. This is one of the few places you can get exposure like that without interning at an VFX shop.

Anyway, feel free to ask questions if you like, and I'll try to help answer.
I think there's a few other PXC members lurking these boards, so there could be others here to help too.

    Have fun!

I took the opportunity to finally join up with PXC and take a look around - needless to say I am blown away by the sheer volume of info and resources! I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to dig in to just about any area you can think of. This is a really great time to try it out!

Am I allowed to ask questions about what programs you guys have tuts for, or is that against policy:p

That information is publicly available on the main Pixel Corps site; see my first post. There are also many other applications, processes, and ideas that the members help each other out with, including lots of member generated content/tutorials. By no means do we restrict ourselves to the toolset they provide us.

Little bump...anyone who is joining, be sure to pop into the "New Members - Say 'hi'" thread and let us know you're there. I'd like to see your faces bright and early and know you've arrived. Don't be shy, it's a very friendly community :D

One other thing I just learned today is that it's actually a four month membership for $50.
Normally, these things are done in 3 month cycles, but apparently, the summer "Beta2" runs until end the end of August whether you sign up now, or a few weeks from now. So the earlier you get in, the longer that $50 carries you.

    Pretty cool.

    Have fun.

Not only that, but you also don't have to pay the $50 new member fee (at least I didn't) so you're saving that as well. [face_dancing]

Woops, thanks for the reminder. [face_whistling]
