OOC: I am game for the news thing, though I prefer to not publicize my contact info if you wish to know PM me

IC: Izen
Commissioner's Shuttle and Pod Hangar
20,200 Credits and 2 PUPs

"Yes Commissioner I am still thinking about that and it has been bothering, I don't like hidden catches to anything. Though your explanation does make sense commisioner, but I am still some what hesitant to use that money Commissioner. Thank you for taking time from your busy schedule Commissioner to answer my question, I believe I have held you up long enough from leaving this planet. I will see you at the Race of Champions Commissioner." Izen said before he bowed respectfully to the commissioner, waiting for the man's response.

With a nod Commissioner Slydell said ?Yes I do need to be leaving, but I am glad to have cleared this up with you sir, I will see you in the Race of Champions good day to you sir.?

With that Izen bowed once more to the commissioner before leaving the man to more important buisness, making sure to bypass the after race festivities and media coverage for the finishing racers. He had never liked the publicity of being a podracer, he become a podracer to enjoy racing not to become famous or make a lot of money such things did not matter to him. Izen wanted the thrill of the race to be his reason for racing not the promise of riches or fame, if that was what he wanted he might as well try to be a figure head for a sponsor who only cared about their image in the public's eye not the art of podracing. No Izen would never let himself become such a person, he wished to stay as he was a simple Kel Dor trying to make it in a world of thrills.

He had just one more thing to do before he headed of to Coruscant and the Race of Champions, he had to pay that talented young woman for helping him complete the repairs and even get some upgrades for his pod but what was a fair price for the young woman's help. As he neared the pod hangar Izen was still trying to decide what exactly was fair payment for the woman's help. Well considering that with out her help my pod would never have been finished in time for the race I owe her quite a lot of money Izen thought as he entered the pod hangar and walked over to the woman. ?Thank you for all your help in fixing my pod, I hope this is sufficient compensation for your help.? Izen said as he handed her a slip for four thousand credits hoping such was enough for all the help she had given him and covered the price for the spare parts as well as upgrade parts that were used to get the pod up and running again for the race. Though Izen wished he had enough time to stay, he wanted to get off planet as quickly as possibly so as to avoid any possibly media people wandering around. Before he left the pod hangar Izen made arrangements for his pod to be taken to his ship as quickly as possible so he could head towards Coruscant and the Race of Champions,

Coruscant orbit and Village
16,200 Credits and 2 PUPs

Izen strapped himself in as the warning klaxons went off signaling that the ship was getting close to emerging from hyperspace. Each second brought him closer to Coruscant and the Race of Champions, the closer he got the more his anticipation built up as did his excitement. ?God it is like getting for my first race all over again.? he said with a grin as the ship emerged from hyperspace. Nothing could have prepared him for the sight ahead of him, the planet was more spectacular than he could ever hope to imagine it was a place his family would never have had the money to visit but now he was not only in orbit around Coruscant he would be setting foot on the planet. His anticipation grew the closer his ship got to the planet, never before had he been given an opportunity like this, he was going to race on the planet below in front of who knows how many citizens of the galaxy. Izen could barely contain his excitement as they drew closer to the planet getting landing coor

OOC: The following is most definately Hammer approved

A Letter To the Heads of New Republic Racing, also sent to the media

This is to inform you that upon reviewing of the Contract between NEW REPUBLIC RACING (henceforth referred to as "The Company") and KAVARK CLAN BAIKH'VAIR (henceforth referred to as "The Racer"), it has been found that The Company has been negligent of several obligations owed to The Racer as part of aforementioned contract. As a result, The Racer, having undertaken legal council has decided on the following course of action.

Per section 7 of the Contract, The Racer is choosing to end his contractural obligations with The Company. As a result, he will finish out the season as a free agent. The following ramifications of this ending of contractural obligations are to happen, as directed by the contract:

The Racer shall keep the pod, as-is, at the time of the end of contractural obligations.

The Racer shall keep all earned and outsanding PUPs

The Company shall keep all earned prize monies that have not been used for pod upgrades and maintenance.

It is the hope of The Racer and his legal representation that this matter end as quickly as possible and that, in view of the contract, you will not pursue this matter in the courts.

Thank you,

Pod Racing Sports Management
Rohssha, founder

IC: Rohssha
location: Wayland

The Toydarian fluttered in place behind a small podium, before settling down to a standing position. Seated next to him was Kavark, his client, and newly declared Free Agent superstar of pod racing. Before them were about three dozen media members, representing many different media outlets, ranging from the Holonet to local reporters. Rohssha cleared his throat, and began to address the media.

"As you all know," he began, "we are here to discuss the future of the best uh racer in all of pod racing, Kavark! My agency, uh, Pod Racing Sports Management has acquired his services, and we will be representing him, ah, from now on. I'll open this up to any, uh, questions you have for me."

"Mr. Rohssha, why have you and your client decided to make this split with New Republic Racing?" one of them called out.

"My client and I ... we feel that the New Republic was, uh, more concerned about profiting from Kavark, than from promoting him to the best of their abilities. We want to ... shift him ... to a more ... better situation."

"A question for Kavark ...", another chimed in, before being cut off by Rohssha.

"No! Questions are directed at me, and me only!"

"Will Kavark be racing in the ROC? And if so, what will his pod look like?"

"Of course Kavark will be in the ROC, we wouldn't miss it for the galaxy. As far as his pod ... right now, we've taken off all the New Republic logos, and it looks pretty plain. But, if someone has enough money to get their name or logo on the pod for one race, we'd be willing to listen. Is that something that interests, ah, you?"

The same reporter laughs, and asks a follow-up question: "Will you be looking for a new sponsor between racing seasons?"

"Of course we will. That's ah my job! To find Kavark the best in representations. Believe me, it's not just gonna be about the highest bidder, but that will play a significant factor."

"Can you tell us about when and how your relationship with Kavark started?

"Next question, please"

"Can you comment on the exact infractions the New Republic made in Kavark's contract?"

"Next question, please"

"Are there any other racers who you are actively pursuing to be clients of your agency team?"

"Next question, please"

"Can you tell us about your long term goals for Kavark and the agency team?"

"I, uh, think that this press conference is over. We'll see you for the press releases at the ROC."

Rohssha grinned and motioned to Kavark, who stood and walked towards him. The Toydarian and the Noghri walked off together, leaving the press, shouting questions and comments, in their

I too like the look of Kalio's idea. And his thing with Kellerman shows he has been following us closely.

Just like other sports channels to have ex-competitors in the studio. No longer active, but whose opinions can still be respected by the viewing audience.

He already has my msn contact.

The attendant at the shop was actually a teenage human female, dressed in oily overalls and thick braided hair. She listened carefully as the Ssi-Ruuvi technican went down his list of demands. Her manager would be very happy to see such a big order being put in...

"Yeah, we sell whole engines..." she said, "Whole bunch of them in different sizes... wouldn't be finding them in the smalller stores. What type of engine do you need? Cheap? Expensive."

The teen had also been eying the trade-in parts the Ssi-Ruuvi wanted to bring in...

"And how old are those parts? A few races?"

The eyeballed them carefully, trying to judge for herself....

OOC: My apologies, fine players. This weekend has been a very bad one for me and the ordeals have left me exhausted beyond cognative use of these fine bits you have all created. Though your support and words have provide an easy impetus to completion of the project for what I had set as a Sunday deadline, I must beg a postponement.

It would not do any honor to you for my contributions, or compilations of all that you did, to be shoddy, hurried, or forced for lack of energy and cohesive thought that is mine this night.

So, this being the case, I do wish you all a fine race beginning day and do thank-you for graciously putting your race on hold for a week.

To be sure, the publication is nearly complete. It is merely the video segment to write and a few things in between. Be assured, it should be up by tomorrow night.

My best wishes to the racers and the lurkers! Good-night.

*** Attention ALL ***

I've just finished typing up the ROC Starter Post...

The ROC will begin at 5pm Pacific Time / 6pm Mountain Time / 7pm Central Time / 8pm Eastern Time

And for all you East Coasters that are afraid you'll be unfairly treated with this SPL of one, I've implimented the following safeguard...

ROC Posts will not be counted between the following hours:

1 AM East / 12 AM Central / 11 PM Mountrain / 10 PM Pacific

TO:

10 AM Pacific / 11 AM Mountain / Noon Central / 1 PM East

Or basically, the ROC will be open (accepting posts):

Pacific: 10 AM to 10 PM
Mountain: 11 AM to 11 PM
Central: Noon to Midnight
East: 1 PM to 1 AM

With this setup, the problems of having users unfairly advantaged by school or going to sleep based on time zones will be eliminated... Everyone will know they have the same 12 hour window to get posts in.

This rule may be thrown out, as its experimental, but I want to see how it goes first. I suspect it'll actually speed up the races, as more folks will know they have to be on at the same time...

As with everything, judging will take into account percieved abuses, so play nice... [face_wink]

At the very least, it'll serve as a fun little twist on our standard fare... if the idea is a sterling success, you may be it back for Podracer II....

***IC: The Race of Champions***
The Skies of Galactic City, Coruscant

The Race of Champions was really unlike any other race that had preceeded it, a fact that the GPRL Board of Governors was extremely proud of. The race of a Night Race, so there was plenty of time for the racers to arrive on scene, spend the afternoon in the village, gear up, and ready their pods. The racers had all arrived on scene as the sun slowly set over remaining planetary skyline, still marked by the spires of buildings that had survived the Yuzzhan Vong invasions or were slowly being rebuilt. The fans continued to build as they took their positions in the many tall bleachers erected on the roofs of buildings lining the race track.

The skies turned from red to purple, and eventually a starry black? the excitement was in the air. It was absolutely electric. It was time for the figurehead of the Podracing Season. The final race, where the best competed and fate would ultimately be decided. Was it a race of destiny? Some would say so. But for the racers sitting in their pods as they were elevated via repulsorlift to the track, they knew this here was the biggest race of their lives.

At the area demarcated as the starting line, two crossing pillars of light shot into the air accompanied by a musical fanfare, creating an elaborate flourish as the Pods finished their trek up to the repulsortrack. From under the pods, a shimmering blue glow, similar to the magfields found on most capital ships shot ahead of them as the track formulated, red sensor lights turning to green as the systems activated. Following the floor a few seconds later was the electro-walls, powerful magnetic charges that would prevent the pods from falling off into the Coruscant sky.

As the riders sat in their pods, a hoverscreen descended in front of them, Comissioner Slydell filling their view ports. The racers couldn?t see it, but it was the same feed that the rest of the crowds were seeing all along the racetracks.

?Greetings Racers?.? The Commissioner said, decked in an immaculately crisp suit and standing in front of a very typical ?important? style background, starmap, comfy chair, etc. ?? And congratulations for making it here. Before you lies the GPRL?s Race of Champions. You are all Champions of the Podracing Circuit, the best of the best. You have my wishes for the best of luck here, in this race of destiny, and my sincerest thanks for making the First Season of Podracing a successful one. Stay safe, and I look forward to seeing each and every one of you when the next season starts again.?

The man gave a gracious nod as the screen flickered out, leaving a GPRL logo. The screen floated up a few more feet, and then, a large ?4? appeared on it, instantly as the twin light pillars in front of the racers lit up red?

The roar of the crowds was deafening, not only from the starting line, but all throughout the Coruscanti skyline as all the fanclubs, there in full force, began screaming their hearts out. Rich and Poor, Young and Old, all present and able to observe their favorite racers compete. The major networks switched the ?race mode? as the camera droids assumed their positions along the tracks?.

One more countdown, one more launch?

?3? the screen changed, the red lights holding?

?2? came up, a second pair of red lights flickering on?

?1? appeared, the lights changing to a blaring yellow?

And then, in that ever heart racing second?

?O? as the Green Lights shone, green flare style fireworks shooting up in the night sky...

And with that, the final race of the First Podracing Season began. The skies of Coruscant beckoned as the racers shot forth?

TAG: ALL!

(ooc: 5250 Creds, 1 PUP, 1 handling upgrade (out of two), unnamed Ssi-Ruuvi budget in exchange for:
17. 1 replacement engine (R142 Ion Jet or better)

18. 1 Acceleration upgrade

19. 1 Braking upgrade

20. 1 Top speed upgrade?

21. Acceptable?)

IC: Murrg Geafsit
Race Post #1

4. Murrg anxiously listened to Commissioner Slydell make his speech. The wait was agonizing, and he instead craned his neck about the glowing track, attempting to see it as best he could. Finally, Slydell was done, and the real countdown could begin.

3. Murrg's mind raced. This was the last race. Any of those races could have been his last. Frell! The race on Tatooine could have been his last had the Force not woven a different fate for him.

2. But this really was the last race. The season had seemed agonizingly slow at times, lightning quick at others, but here it was: The last race of his first and last season of racing.

1. Why? He asked himself. Why had he done anything? Countless questionable decisions raced through his mind, saving Pops, leaving Pops unprotected on Dac, but it all led back to his most recent questionable decision. Why had he announced his retirement? For all his lofty talk of bigger things in the Galaxy, he'd had no idea what those big things were. His life had been nothing but thievery and podracing for as long as he could remember, and now he was abandoning everything familiar for some damn fool idealistic crusade...

0. No more time to think. No more time to question. Murrg gripped his twin accelerators, looking ahead at his brand new engine. It was hideous, stock gray. The techs had been too busy installing it and reinstalling all the upgrades to give it a proper paint job. It stood in stark contrast to his other engine, blue and silver with the Imperium's insignia on top.

Regardless of the hideousness, both engines ignited beautifully, white fire spurting out from the exhaust as the pod screamed into the night. It was an added special effect of the night race, Murrg almost thought, that in the dark, every last ember of his trail could be seen receding into the space behind him, causing his engines to leave almost a comet-like trail along the Galaxy that was the glowing blue repulsor field track.

The approaching first turn distracted Murrg from the ethereal beauty of his pod exhaust. It was a gentle curve, like all the turns of this race looked to be. This upset the Nosaurian because it turned the race almost entirely to a contest of speed, and his pod was much better equipped for the tighter-turning races.

IC Corbin Antillies
Race Post 1

From the wastelands of Mos Espa, to the lively commercial center of the galaxy. The journey Corbin had embarked upon brought him across the galaxy, and now all his hard work boiled down to this moment. No longer would second or third place be acceptable, and no longer would his several times of settling in second or third place be relevant. This was one race, one shot at it all.

Corbin sat quietly in his Pod. His nervous hand flipping gauges across his control panel as the preliminary action commenced. The low rumble of his engines coming to life rang loudly, his cockpit rattled slightly. Commissioner Slydell?s voice was hardly audible over the collective roar of the masses surrounding the starting grid and the track. The entire district had been shut down to allow this race; Podracing had become such a big part of everybody?s lives that the entire Galaxy had shut down to watch.

Corbin looked above. The giant screen displayed the number three across it in bold, red letters. This was it. He quickly wiped his sweaty palms on his pant leg as the number shifted to a two. Corbin re-gripped his thrusters tightly whilst the number shifted to a yellow one. A second later, the screen brightly displayed the Green Zero, Corbin pushed forward on his thrusters as quickly as the fireworks sprung into the air, and he was off.

There was an illusion as if the Pod was soaring through the skies, Corbin directed the massive machine around an immediate tight turn, hoping to gain distance on the other racers. Geb had invested a majority of Corbin?s winnings onto Pod Upgrades just a few short weeks ago, and Antillies was optimistic they would be more than enough to earn him the victory.

IC: Kavark
ROC Post #1

Kavark and Rohssha arrived early for the race. Kavark wanted to scope out his pod, and Rohssha wanted to find prime seating to watch the race ... the first time he'd watch a race live and in-person. Kavark eagerly waited to get into his pod again. For the first time as a free agent, and for the last time this year. He had no doubt that in the off-season he'd have sponsors beating down Rohssha's door for the right to sponsor him, and that would no doubt increase with a great showing in the ROC.

And a great showing in the ROC was what Kavark planned on. He'd saved up six PUPs and used them all to gear up for this race. Every one of them went into increasing his pod's top speed. Three of them went to the actual engine itself, and the other three went to energy savign devices to make the pod more efficient. Kavark had faith in his own handling ability and had proven his acceleration to be top-notch. What he didn't want was other racers catching him on open spaces.

Rohssha located prime seating and notified Kavark of where he'd be, and mentioned something to the effect of getting Antilles to talk to him, to try to add to his client base. Kavark gave a slight chuckle and headed off, to do his pre-race prep. He mentally prepared himself and before long, he was sitting in his pod.

The fanfare of the whole event was almost too much to take in. The beautiful skyline of Coruscant serving as the backdrop for the race gave Kavark shivers. He tried to tell himself it was only another race, but he couldn't believe his own lies. He knew it was much more ... for himself and for everyone else involved.

He tried to clear his mind as much as he could, and focused in on the countdown to the start of the race. The countdown ended, and his pod was off.

He blasted off at about 80% of his acceleration, banking almost directly into a slight turn. His pod took the short straightaway still running at about 80% speed, as he hit the first big bank turn.

His eyes widened as he saw the first chance to accelerate and use his pod upgrades and try to put some early distance between contenders and pretenders.

Race Post 2

Corbin's tri-engined Pod glided along the short, narrow straightaway. Kavark was leading the race from the get-go. Antillies noticed slight changes in the appearance of Kavark's pod, the New Republic ensignias had been erased, he was racing independently. With a quick turn in the course, Corbin manuevered around. His Pod soared accross the black, starry night as he tried to catch up to Kavark. The bright lights of the skyscrapers illuminated the track casting a bright, artifical light along the track.

Speeders soared above and below the track as the racers progressed through the opening stages. Corbin's new upgrades allowed his Pod to manuever and accelerate with much more ease then before. His auxillery was slowly charging, waiting for the oppurtune moment to activate the turbo boost and pull ahead.

Corbin's Pod rattled along the course through the bustling urbanized district. He tried to close the gap between himself and Kavark whilst also trying to block other racers from surpassing him. The Pod jetted down the long straightaway, gaining speed and momentum.

ROC Post #2

Kavark grabbed the early lead, jumping out. The race couldn't have started better. He'd considered long and hard the merits of increasing his acceleration for this course, but with long straightaways and no big climbs, he'd figured it would be best to increase his top speed. And, so far, his decision was proving a good one.

Coming out of the curve, he had a familiar pod behind him, the loud blaring triple engine of Corbin Antilles. Kavark smiled to himself, knowing that the two of them worked well together. This could be good.

He pushed his engines a little harder on the medium length straightaway out of the curve. They were still no where near running at maximum, but he could feel the difference the upgrades gave to his pod. He could also see in his guages the smaller drain on his power.

Carefully, he decelerated just slightly to come into the sharp S-curve at the end of the straightaway. He debated trying to take it at full speed, but remembered there was another banking curve on the other side, and there was no need to be risky this early in the race. He could try that on the 3rd or 4th lap if he needed to make up time or create separation.

The S-Curve took very litle effort to pass through, and Kavark breathed a sigh of relief. Rohssha was convinced that one of two things would happen. Either they would set this race up to be too difficult and wean out the drivers, or they would make it fairly simple and let the drivers shine. Kavark had hoped for the former, and he appeared to be getting his wish.

He thought back to the last few words of advice Rohssha gave him, and said, silently, "thank you my good friend" as he prepared for the banked turn.

IC Corbin Antillies
Post 3

Corbin leaned over the edge of his cockpit and looked downward, a seemingly endless fall was below, surrounded by beaming lights and passing-by speeders. One slip off the track would spell certain doom for himself and his career. Antillies re-focused on the track before him. Kavark was gliding along quickly, slowly gaining speed as the pack traveled further into the course.

Too early for turbo, and too early to try anything risky. The long fall off the edge of the course stayed in Corbin's mind as he contemplated passing his friendly rival.

Corbin sharpy manuevered around the S-Curve just as Kavark had completed it. A long straightaway lay before them. Corbin tightly gripped his thrusters, pushed forward hard, and allowed the racer to accelerate in tightly behind Kavark.

He shifted his Pod from left to right to left trying to find an opening to pull infront of Kavark. His Pod continued to accelerate and he noted Kavark's was as well. The cool breeze blessed his face as beads of sweat trickled down from the sheer tension of the race.

A break in the track quickly approached, and three options came to the table: Take the left, a longer course was on the left side, but once the track formed together you would be in a good place. Take the right, the track was shorter but it would be difficult to get back into a good position. Or the final option: Drive straight through the center. With enough momentum, busting through the middle of the division would cause the Pod to soar over the Coruscant skies and hopefully land back on the left side of the track before it forms back into one course.

Corbin sped his Pod up quickly as the division in the track quickly approached. An expected descion of left or right never came from Antillies, he kept going straight. The Pod busted through the guardrails and sent Corbin's Pod airborne. He steered the massive machine to the left as it glided through the Coruscant night sky. The Pod stalled in the air for a brief second before quickly soaring back towards the track, Corbin leveled the racer out in mid-air and allowed for it to softly touch back down on the left side of course, just before the two tracks met once again and became one.

ROC Post #3

Feel the moment.

That was advice Kavark had gotten from Rohssha when they first met. It had completely transformed Kavark's view on podracing. It turned it from a job, a duty, and a task into a thrill-a-minute joy ride that he was actually being paid to do!

And the new philosophy never showed as much as it did at this moment. The banked curve shot him onto a straightaway. It was about the length of the one before the S-Curve, and the familiarity bred a daredevil attitude. Kavark shot himself to the right end of the track, pushing his track as far as it could go on the Repulsor lifts, and waved to the side. He veered to the other side and waved with his other hand.

This showboating slowed his pod just a bit, but Kavark discounted the loss of speed. He figured the upgrades to his pod could and would make up for it. He swerved back to the right again, taking the right fork of the track. He swung around it, keeping his pod centered as best he could as he took the mini half-loop. His jaw dropped as he watch Antilles' pod land on the other side ... literally land, not arrive ... and the two of them came back onto the "main track" at almost the exact same time.

Kavark grinned a "bring it on" grin and welcomed the challenge this "rival" would bring the rest of the race.

IC Corbin Antillies
Race Post 4

Corbin's Pod was still slightly rumbling from the somewhat rough tumble he took as his Pod made it back down to the course. He looked to his right to see Kavark joining in with the the main section of the course, he glanced at his racing friend and rival and made the motion of wiping the sweat from his forehead to display his relief in making the dangerous jump.

Chunks of debris from the barriers Corbin smashed through still sat upon his engines and cockpit, with every passing moment pieces fell off and soared out into the open Coruscant sky. With quick reflexes, Corbin dodged a chunk of debris which flew towards his face off the middle engine. He looked behind him to see it soaring off into the distance.

Antillies sumbitted his attention back onto the course. His dangerous, and risky manuever had gained him some ground, but Kavark still posed a strong threat. The racers were nearly neck and neck as they zoomed down the long straightaway.

For a good portion of the track, few tight turns were there. This was a definite advantage for Antillies, whose Pod lacked strength in tight turns and obstacles, and was strong in open straightaways. Save a few twists and turns in the latter part of the course, the Track was built to display the Pods speeding through open straightaways, something Corbin knew he could do well.
