For the life of me, I cannot work out what Aryan Clip Art Man’s definition of “extreme poverty” could be. Unless it has something to do with being in debt to one of the 10 richest people on earth. I am also unsure what Overweight And Therefore Wrong Woman thinks capitalism has failed at. It appears to be working as intended to me. Of course, if you just accept that the meme is based, all apparent contradictions disappear. The lark's on the wing; The snail's on the thorn; The memes are all based— All's right with the world!
The best part is that Cinco de Mayo isn't even "Mexican Independence Day". It commerates a single battle the Mexicans won, in a war they lost, which also jumpstarted the career of Mexico's most notorious dictator
"Take China out of the equation, things look even worse" Yes, absolutely ignoring one of the most fundamental wealth transfers in history would hurt the agenda, for sure. And when that guy discovers PPP, oh boy his story will melt away. But thanks for the contribution to today's "the left don't econ very well". @poor-yorick - the soyjack is just the average American leftist, who is intellectually vapid and parrots phrases that will gain them the most positive appeal online. It's a substitute for meaningful action, where they can consume on-brand advertising and critique a system they don't fully understand because doing so will get the most reddit karma, social media likes, and re-tweets. The viking looking guy (and all variants that have been made across a variety of racial groups) is the common wojak for the incredibly common sensed approach. Basically, if you factor in PPP, opportunity, and access to things like the internet, people have been getting richer as a result of market economics. And I know some people believe in fairytales like "market socialism" (anyone here a market socialist? Don't be shy) but ultimately markets are really, really efficient at getting resources from A to B. The $2 a day metric is too low, agreed with Even's article there, but the simple US$7 a day metric ignores purchasing power parity (I have lived off $7 a day in Asia before, and it's pretty damned comfortable) and is a desperate ploy to convince people markets are bad, because this failed ideology will work. Frankly speaking, anyone who is either a lassiez faire capitalist or a socialist in the 21st century, is so economically illiterate as to be eligible for some sort of special parking permit. Now I've serious posted and have to find a picture of a willy or something to meme it up or Vivec will get cross.
Here you go Vivec, my apology for srs posting: Was this for me or others? Because I already know you're scared of economics. It's ok.
Due to a lot of factors that largely add up to “bad planning,” I know more about the world economy of 1821 than I do about 2021. The kind of large-scale, endemic poverty many regions have now was really not a thing in the first half of the 19th century. I have no idea where the 85% vs 10% statistic was pulled from, but I suspect a speculum was involved. There’s probably some way to argue that the lowest-income quintile of the human race is doing better now than they were 40 years ago. (Less access to clean water, but more access to wifi!) But trying to drag the colonial era into things makes little sense, and to the extent that the early 19th century can be profitably compared with modern times at all, the poorest people got more of their basic needs met in 1821 than they do in 2021. And now that I’ve committed srsposting, I have to post something to keep Vivec from yelling at me. Literally the only political meme I’ve got right now is this one, which is so potentially toxic I really did not want to post it to my own Imgur account. I’m too lazy to post it from my desktop though, and on my phone there appears to be no other way. So commence with the “NOW YOU LOVE TRUMP ARRGLEBARRGLEBARRGLE!!”
I'm not especially fond of pulling splinters out of my arse as I sit around pining for the bucolic agrarian bliss of yore, but basic needs are a sliding scale which is why they have to be accessed on the needs of the current day. I don't think Vivec will forgive us for essentially srs posting knowingly but throwing in memes as a kind of fig leaf, but until he blows up I'm going to keep doing it.
most news headlines about wacky stuff happening in China and North Korea tends to not be accurate. I'm surprised at you, Ender.
I've seen examples, and I think of any post in the last 2 pages Wocky would probably pick my Joe Rogan one above to firstly suggest there's no real semblance then also try to land a really misplaced critique or defence of Rogan. I found a whopper for you (boom tish):
China = Calls itself socialist, centrally planned with some market economics. Neither capitalist nor socialist, fully. Venezuela = Good indicator of what socialism leads to Russia = dear god it's so cronyist that this has to be a joke Sweden = Capitalist social democracy Denmark = Capitalist social democracy Norway = Capitalist social democracy Finland = Capitalist social democracy France = Capitalist Christian democracy Canada = Capitalist liberal democracy Germany = Capitalist Christian democracy Americans - unable to define socialism since the dawn of time (which is when America was founded)
This is admittedly anecdotal but in my experience the number of people living in a social market economy who consider their system "neither capitalist nor socialist" is also somewhat high. They are misinformed, or at least not really thinking about what a good definition of either system might be, but "capitalism" seems to be becoming synonymous with the American model in much the way "socialism" became synonymous with the Soviet model. In conclusion, language is stupid. As penance for srspost, translation services for local ****posting: "In a crisis, we will protect you." "Thanks!"
Americans didn't ruin Anne Frank. That was definitely the Germans. We're just ruining the memory of her.
I swear there's some American Left Twitter flow chart: Is it colonialism? If yes, colonialism If no, is money involved? If yes, capitalism, if no imperialism.
