    Good points @bstnsx704
Granted there were two different incarnations of Shuma Gorath in Savage Avengers 23. The gigantic one and a smaller (slightly bigger than a human head sized) version.

    If anyone could do
Shuma Gorath justice, it’s Sam Raimi.

A central character leaping off of the pages of a Lee/Ditko comic, a big weird Lovecraftian interdimensional monster, and an evil, ancient book in the form of the Necronomicon ex Mortis uhhhh, the Darkhold? They're just playing into Raimi's hand right now and I am so here for it.

Also, points for bringing back Leslie Bibb again as Christine Everhart, even for so brief a scene. I don’t think we’ve seen her since the Civil War tie-ins for the second volume of Newsfront videos.

Wait - Strange does not go bug. But nice cape.

This episode had so much depth and emotion. In an actually parallel universe this story expanded is the plot of Doctor Strange 2. It wouldn’t be nearly as good over two hours as this 30 minute riff. This took the What If….? series to a new level for me. This is actual MCU real level stuff. The other episodes were great alternate riffs on the stories we know. That on the other hand felt like the MCU expanding into new areas.

It’s amazing how right this animated style is. It feels like the actual MCU. At the same time it feels like a modern comic book. This episode grabbed me in a way usually only live action does. This is what it felt like to watch Batman the animated series for the first time in the early 90s.

Can someone clarify the divergent point for this episode though? I get that something happened that led to her going with Strange in the night of the crash, and that by doing so it locked his divergent timeline into requiring her death as a fixed point in that timeline in order to make him Sorcerer Supreme and save reality.

But, obviously, prime MCU shows that her death is not an absolute in every timeline where Strange becomes Sorcerer Supreme, so did they specify what moment/decision changed that led her to joining Strange to that award event?

Whatever the true divergent point is, it definitely happened before the episode. It is almost certainly Strange and Palmer never splitting up, I'd say, since they were clearly a couple here, whereas they were no longer one at the start of the film.

This story would work in the regular MCU set after Strange’s origin story. Palmer dies and in her absence Strange becomes obsessed with saving her.

I was frowning to start but then the moment
    it all went very wrong
I realised this is going to be one I go back to again and again. (As opposed to last weeks).

Loved this episode and can't help but see it as the showing how the small arrogance in Strange can balloon to dark
    thus destroying that universe
, like the goodness in T'Challa changed so much in that episode.

Yeah, that was a pretty dark episode, to say the least. Tbh I don't remember the whole origin story of Dr. Strange; I saw the movie once when it was first released several years ago and wasn't really familiar offhand with that single moment where a decision of Strange's could decide the fate of the universe.

It was interesting that that tentacled monster from the first episode with Captain Carter makes an appearance here; and is absorbed by the evil Strange. I wonder if that has any kind of impact on her universe; or if we may see the evil Strange make his way into her universe.

Not as much fun as earlier episodes, but more interesting than last week, IMO.

Ami I missing some in-joke about gnomes?

Just saw the episode and loved it. I haven’t even seen doctor strange so I have no clue what it’s even pulling from. Weird that the one episode I didn’t like was from the movie I watched.

As much as I loved this episode, one thing bugged me:

    Where was Mordo?

    My impression is

only in the first episode we actually saw the divergent point. Last week the "divergent point" actually was Hope's death that make Hank crazy; in episode 2 the divergent point was Yondu betraying Ego and choosing to go after vibranium. But it was explained by someone in those episode , not showed.

Oh. That was actually my favorite. How do you think it was condensed though? Each episode has to fit in the same amount of time; her story left a cliffhanger for a future episode.

Because unlike the other episodes it followed the plot of the movie it was “based” on to the letter. Just replaced Peggy with Steve and made Steve iron man. The others just have I don’t know more pazzaz?

The Doctor Strange movie seems like it happened more or less the same in this universe minus Christine, so he probably quit just like he did there. Maybe they felt inserting him into the very short sequence that summarizes events from Strange getting into the mystics arts up to beating Dormammu would've been too small an appearance.

    Yes, but

Stopping (or attempting to stop) a sorcerer bent on mucking up "the Natural Law" even worse than they already had seems right up post-movie Mordo's alley.
