Post ROTS- Does the Galaxy know Vader is 'The (Former) Poster Boy of the Republic'?

Obi-Wan refers to Anakin as 'the poster boy' in Rots.

And Anakin/Vader becomes a 'poster boy' of the Empire, much like he was during the Clone Wars.

My question is, do the everyday galaxy citizens know that Vader is actually Anakin Skywalker?

Sorry if this is redundant...i hope you know what i'm trying to put across.

 

I guess it depends on how much propaganda the Empire put out there... Without someone actually telling people, I doubt it would have been easy to find out publicly.

Is there any gain for the Empire to tell the citizens of the Old Republic about Anakin's transformation? Unless it would benefit the Emperor, I doubt he'd take the time to release information like that, as everything he does seems only to be to benefit himself.

 

After reading "Dark Lord" it was clear that no one really new who Vader was. A Holonet broadcast mentioned that they believe he is in Palpatine's inner circle but they have no idea who he is.

The general gaLactic citizen believes Anakin Skywalker died during the Jedi Temple raid.

 

The 501st pretty much knows since they were sent with him to the Jedi Temple. And, Tarkin had heard rumors of that same thing but did not know if they were true or not.

 

I dont have any facts, but i would have to assume, given the timeline of events of ROTS, that the average Galaxy person, or even Senator, doesnt know Anakin and Vader are one in the same. And probablly, if anything, think Anakin was killed with the rest of the Jedi.

Palpatine obviously does, and I like the idea that maybe Tarkin knew as well...Some Imperials definately knew he was a "force user"...but not necessarily that he was Anakin.
Obi-Wan and Yoda definately know too. What about R2?

Did Obi Wan tell Owen?, Beru? Does Bail Organa know? If so, do memebers of the Rebel Alliance know?

I cant think of a reason why anyone else, beyond who is listed above would know.
Darth Vader definately seemed to not want anything to do with that name any longer.

I agree that not many people know Anakin and Vader are the same, only because of what I have read and such. and that Luke had to find out by Vader's own mouth that he was Anakin. Someone in the Rebel Alliance at least did a Google search on vader and would have known he was Anakin if it was common knowledge.

But my question is- What if Obi didnt beat Anakin down the hill of lava? Like what if he won, and even cut off Anakin's limbs, but his face was still perfectly intact? How would he hide that Vader is Anakin?

 

I don't think it was common knowledge. If so, then it definetely would have gotten back to Luke.

I think the only people that knew were Yoda, Ben, and based on their comments in Star Wars, Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru.

I suppose it's somewhat likely that Bail Organa may have known as well.

 

I think this is a tough question. I think that enough officers saw him use the force to know he was once/is a Jedi. I'm sure some of the officers told other people so the fact that Vader is a force user had be be common knowledge.

Because of this, I would think Palatine would be better off saying "This is Anakin Skywalker, the only Jedi that remained Loyal, and look what they did to him for it! The Jedi are brutes that deformed me and even butchered one of their own kind for questioning orders!"

However, Palpatine wanted to take the Anakin out of Vader so letting other people know him as "Anakin Skywalker" probalby would have hindered his brainwashing of Anakin.

but that's basing alot that Obi would throw him down a lava pit. what if anakin remained perfectly healthy in the face are? so his features were still intact. would he make ani wear a mask?

 

I don't think he'd need to. If there were no apparent damage done to his face, then what would be the point? There would be no point other than intimidation. So, maybe for that. But otherwise, nah, not probable.

...Unless Old Palpy was into some 'games' involving Anakin, a mechanical suit and heavy breathing.

 

They had no idea. Palpatine was a distant despotic ruler, and where he got his creepy servants was his business.
