The three things that stood out to me most from Rey's vision were Ben Kenobi's voice, played by Ewan, calling out to her at the end of the sequence right before you hear "these are your first steps"

And Rey envisioning the lava planet (obviously Mustafar) before it transitions into Luke reaching to R2 (at a funeral pyre for the burning of the former jedi temple?).

And Kylo making reference to the original clone troopers.

These moments only happened for brief seconds but they stood out to me most in the movie.

Me too! Obi-Wan is my favorite character and one thing I didn't like about TFA was that it was the first Star Wars movie without him, but if his voice is there then that changes things quite a bit! I definitely heard Yoda's voice but who else do we hear? Are these all fallen Jedi who are calling out to Rey??

when they say first the sith, THEN the empire, that obviously means prequel era. Sith was though of before the prequels, but prequels showed it to the fans first. It shows and connects all three as she says the fight was with the
    sith-prequels
    empire-OT
    first order-ST

Not only is it a prequel reference, but it's a connection between all three trilogies :) Good job JJ.

What has really bugged me about the marketing for this film is it felt like Disney was trying to pretend the PT never existed. So I was pleasantly surprised by the subtle OT references in the film and as a PT fan I really appreciated it. Hopefully we get a little more PT references in Episode 8.

Wrong again. The term Sith has been around LOOOOOOONG before the prequels. The prequels were not the first time it was showed to fans. It may have been the first time it appeared in the movies but there are countless books, novels, toys, action figures, etc. where that term appeared, going back to the 1970's. As much as you'd like it to be, the word Sith is not a prequel reference anymore than the word Yoda or Palpatine is.

By reacting I mean the facial expressions and gestures were reminiscent of Yoda in ROTS. Your other examples don't have this and you focus only on sensing.

    1. When Han faces Kylo Ren on the bridge, Kylo's face is illuminated half blue and half red - similar to the way Anakin's face was illuminated in his fight with Count Dooku.

Okay, I'm glad someone else thought this, because my family was saying I was crazy! To me the music playing in the background during the Snoke scenes was identical to the haunting opera scene music from ROTS. Don't know if that was supposed to be a nod to the PT or if that was a subtle hint of what's to come...

    ????

The question is not about when it was made, but what is was referencing.

When Maz said the "Sith", was she referring (that word again!) to the time when the Sith were a presence in the galaxy? Of course she was. When were the Sith a presence in the galaxy? That's right! Circa eps 1-3.

When were the empire a presence in the galaxy? That's right! Circa eps4-6.

It's a reference to the PT. If you're confused about the word "reference" I suggest you look it up before continuing.

I could be wrong, but I think I saw a Podracer engine at the junk yard on Jakku just before Finn and Rey boost the Falcon.

With all the junk in this galaxy it amazes me that we've never seen a single broken battle droid in any of it.

I'm going to mention this again since I mentioned it before and no one seemed to take notice.

    Blue blaster bolts!!

Every blaster bolt in the OT is red, only in the PT did we get red, blue, and even green blaster bolts.

Also in the PT, blue was used by the republic, and in TFA it seems to be the case once again as the blue blasters were used by the jakku village residents as well as Poe.

Actually I'm pretty sure the short story says that only his mask is Kaleesh, his actual species hasn't been identified yet. I'd love it if he was one though.

Speaking of PT references in TFA, is that Coruscant being destroyed in the scene where a few planets are destroyed by the star killer?

According to the Visual Dictionary, Phasma's armor is made from a Nabooian ship once owned by Sheev. I don't think we've seen the ship in any canon but it's obviously similar to both of Padme's.

No. Hosnian Prime. Current (well former) location of the Senate and possibly the bulk of the fleet.

Here is a prequel reference I'm sad got edited out considering what an important position it's been in the past, the new Senator from Naboo. I think she may actually be on the balcony on Hosnian Prime before it gets blown up. I wonder what the Theed Reforms were.

That's true, but the term Dark Lord of the Sith came from the original trilogy era. It just wasn't spoken in the movies.

You're wrong. I suspect you're very young. The term Sith was known to popular culture in the 80s. I was a kid in the 80s and heard the term Dark Lord of the Sith despite the fact that I didn't read the ANH novelization until years later.

Also when Lucas was making Episode I, the books were canon. They were lower canon than the films, but they were considered canon. Don't be fooled by revisionist historians.
