I remember that pic beeing revealed in an issue of SW Insider and People were speculating Anakin would have a red ligtsaber due to his prop beeing red.
YES! I remember in the lead up to the release of ROTS, always taking a few minutes to browse thru SW Insider whenever we went to the grocery store (since smartphones and Facebook wasn't a thing yet, this was the only way I could get SW news other than this site LOL). Man, those were some great times!
So here's something I've been wondering about: they clearly seem to have shot Vader walking up to Palpatine and Tarkin standing by the window. However, in the film Vader's cape appears to be achieved through CGI cloth simulation. Maybe the cape didn't move cinematically enough and that's why it was replaced?
The cape has a slightly stronger reflective quality in the two walking shots, that's why I assumed they might have done a cloth simulation (as is standard with most super hero capes nowadays).
I highly doubt that. It may be standard nowadays, but I don't think it was in 2005. They clearly used a real cape (as you can see) so I doubt they would go through the trouble of replacing it and creating a CGI one.
Cloth simulation already reached a very convincing level of realism with Attack of the Clones. It's definitely the real cape as soon as he's standing next to Palpatine, but I wouldn't be surprised if the cape got a digital facelift for the walking shots. Again, it's hard to tell and doesn't make any difference besides offering room for speculation.
I think this can be considered behind-the-scenes -- this documentary talks about the mythology and symbolism present within the prequels to great extent and depth (and we know mythology was on George's mind throughout the making of the films).
"The Legacy Revealed" is one of the best documentaries on Star Wars, which isn't an easy feat. It's puzzling why this wasn't included with the 2011 The Complete Saga Blu-Ray release or the 4K releases.
I love promo shots like this that depict something that didn't happen in the film, or even alludes to something completely misleading. One that immediately comes to mind is Obi-Wan fighting Darth Maul in the desert.
I remember there was one for ROTS that had Anakin and Mace looking like they are ready to fight. EDIT: Damn. Cant delete that busted image thing.
I was flipping though the Making of Revenge of the Sith book by J.W. Rinzler and found this cool pic of George Lucas. Very reminiscent of a similar photo taken when he was making ROTJ I believe.
Goddamn, I love the aesthetics of this movie. Ugh. The turbo tank, the CIS ships, Jedi starfighters.....George you magnificent man.
