Following the destruction of Alderaan, some people say that Leia should no longer be referred to as a princess. I don't believe that her title should be ripped away like that. She was "born" a princess and therefore should keep her title.
    What do you think?

The Rebels are probably used to calling her "Princess". It's also probably a sign of respect for her destroyed planet. Besides, she's still a Princess of the surviving Alderaan people that were off-planet at the time of the destruction, however many there are.

She not a Princess period. She's VAder's daughter, not Bail's.

But padme Amida was a queen then a senator, thus making Leia a princess and Luke a prince...

It doesn't matter who her real parents were. All that matters is that she was raised by Bail Organa on Alderaan, thus making her the Princess of Alderaan.

Leia is the adopted daughter of Bail Organa, so she is the Princess of Alderaan.

I've had just about enough of this!

Actually, i like hearing people's opinions on such subjects. There are so many that agree and so many that disagree that you can hear so many different opinions making it interesting.

    Keep going. :D

Leia is a princess because she's Bail's adopted daughter. That's all that needs to be said on the subject.

Why don't you go and ask Bail or Leia themselves?

    From the TOS databank:

"It was common knowledge throughout the court that Leia was adopted into the Royal Family."

People called Diana princess even after her divorce. She just wasn't allowed to be refered to as "Royal Highness" any longer. Still people called her princess after she was dead.

We don't know what the Alderaan monarchy rules of eticate were. We must assume that an adopted daughter is rightly allowed to be refered to as "princess" Even Darth Vader refered to her as "your Royal Highness."

IMO, Amidala isn't a queen and Leia isn't a princess.

Amidala's position as queen is actually more like a presidency. In some societies kings and queens were elected, but they were elected for life. The monarch of Naboo has terms and term limits, like a modern-day president.

Officially, Bail Organa is a senator and "the first chairman of the Alderaan system" and is not referred to as prince or king. Consequently, it would be incorrect for his daughter Leia (though she *is* adopted, she is an official member of his family and thus is entitled to certain rights)to be called "princess."

I believe that Lucas has a fascination with idea of royalty and wants a way to try to blend it with his ideas of democracy

Alderaanian royal titles are confusing. Why do they need chairmans and viceroys? But then again, Russia complicated things by having the czar's(Nicholas II) daughters named grand duchesses.

Anyway, Moses was a prince when he was adopted into the Egyptian royal family. It shouldn't be so different for Leia to be a princess.

good point skywalker_girl. this means the blood she has from Amidala is just noble blood not royal blood. but she was adopted by Bail Organa
who becomes more than a senator after the prequel trilogy.

most likely when the galactic senate was removed to form the imperial senate alderaan changed it's rulership and made there foremost senetor a king.

whatever anyone says leia organa-solo is a princess - no drama.

Good lord, now we are siting the bible as a source of confirmation of Leia's title. You are better off referencing the EU. [face_plain]

    ok GLK

According to EU, Leia no longer uses the title Princess and corrects people when they do. Telling them she not a princess.

No one is citing the Bible as confirmation. It's just an analogy. Relax, guys.
I think the title "princess" may have different connotations in the SW universe than it does here, just as the title of "queen" does. They are in a galaxy far, far away.
