Ticketmaster has listed WCW World Championship Wrestling for january 1, 2004 in the Columbus Civic Center in Columbus, GA.

No idea what it could be, but it certainly could be an interesting look at possible future WWE booking.

    Very interesting news...

I too am very interested in that...

Curious how tickets for a wrestling show are already being planned for sale.

In my dreams here, I have seen the destruction of the Jedi. The death of the Republic. I have seen the Temple in ruins, the Senate smashed, and Coruscant itself shattered by orbital bombardment from immense ships of impossible design. I have seen Coruscant, the seat of galactic culture, become a jungle far more hostile and alien than any on Haruun Kal.
I have seen the end of civilization.

That's probably just a mistake. For example, my local cable company still uses a phone number including "WCW" for all the WWE ppvs.

Rey Myserio and Billy Kidman won a squash match over a pair of masked jobbers called the "Conquistadores" on Smackdown last night.

The Conquistadores were actually OVW wrestlers Rob Conway and Nick Dinsmore. Instead of exposing them as new wrestlers treated like jobbers, WWE felt it was smarted to have them under masks, so that when they actually do debut in WWE, they wouldn't be marked as jobbers.

Ironically, Conway and Dinsmore are feuding in OVW, much like the Basham Brothers were before being called up and assigned as a tag team on Smackdown.

But nothing beats the Angle/Kane matches.

True. Their match on Smackdown! (with Kane tapping out to the ankle lock) was the best one, but I still like their WMX-8 encounter because of the way Kane is just bumping his ass off to keep up with Angle. It's always impressive when you get the really big guys doing stuff like that. Lesnar's bumping against Angle at WMXIX also impressed me for the same reason (remember that release german suplex?).

But I think a programme with Hurricane would work well for Kane. Think of all the sympathy heat Helms could get by having Kane beat the crap out of him all the time. Real David vs Goliath stuff, with Hurricane trying to reason with his former tag partner and Kane getting royally pissed off.

JR's Relationship With Austin, Lesnar vs. McMahon Update & More
    Story By: Amish Patel
    July 18, 2003

Jim Ross was on UPN33 News in Miami yesterday. The segment started with clips of RAW's opening montage and Kane grabbing JR's shirt on Monday night. He talked about his new cookbook. He went on to say that he made some bad choices early on in his life concerning his family. He wasn't the best husband. He originally wanted to be a teacher. He talked about being fired twice but said he has a wonderful relationship with Vince. He talked about his debut and said he felt that he finally made it and feels honored that Vince stepped aside and let him to the play by play at WrestleMania 9. In the news piece they called Vince the world's hardest working billionaire. Next week JR will talk about his relationship with Stone Cold and how he'll never have Christmas dinner with Eric Bischoff. Good segment that made WWE look good.

In Kelowna, B.C. on The Sun 99.9 FM, they're advertising Brock Lesnar vs. Vince McMahon w/guest referees Stephanie and Sable as the main event for the August 5th Smackdown! taping here. And, they said a "very special" surprise will be taking place also.

Goldberg vs. HHH Update, Lesnar Trashes Wrestling, More
    Story By: Amish Patel
    July 18, 2003

Triple H vs. Goldberg will be featured on the house show card in San Jose, Calif this Sunday in what is expected to be a big show for a number of reasons. The WWE still has Triple H vs. Bill Goldberg planned for SummerSlam even though there have been rumors that suggest the contrary.

The main-event for Vengeance was played out during a SmackDown! house show in Japan recently. The end result was the champion Brock Lesnar defeating Big Show and Kurt Angle.

In a pretty ironic note, reader Brady Olsen sent word that Brock Lesnar pretty much trashed pro wrestling in Sports Illustrated magazine. Below is what Lesnar had to say:

"Calling pro wrestling a sport is degrading to amateur wrestlers because of the hard work we put into our sport."

PW Exclusive: Latest on 24 Hour Wrestling Channel
    Story By: Tracey Russell
    July 18, 2003

A new television station to be set up on Sky Digital. The station, running from a home base in Ireland, hoped to be running before the year is out - and September is a date that has been suggested. It will run on Sky Digital as an independent station. There will be no WWE shown, and that includes the libraries they hold of WCW and ECW.

Various promotions have already agreed for their libraries to be shown. These include Ring Of Honor, Combat Zone Wrestling, Xtreme Pro Wrestling and Ohio Valley Wrestling. There are also some old shows from the 80's.

From the UK it has been confirmed that Frontier Wrestling Alliance and Irish Whip Wrestling will be shown, while it has been confirmed that this is NOT who NWA-UK Hammerlock have a deal with. Japan will also be featured, with New Japan and Noah already signed up. There are also talks with a Mexican promotion about showing their footage. There will also be more promotions announced at a later date".

There's also been talk of NWA-TNA being on the channel but nothing substantial of yet. The channel itself will be called TWC (The wrestling channel) and you will have to subscribe to it.

UK Wrestling has not been on mainstream TV since 1989.

I think they're gonna do Goldberg/HHH by sheer force of will, regardless of what happens.

On a different note...something I was thinking about yesterday, and looking for some opinion from some of the more long-term wrestling fans here.

I'd like Sting to end up signing for the WWE at some point, partially because of the chance for his own DVD to be released. Getting his best matches on DVD, instead of less durable videotape, would be fantastic.

So, I tried making up a little list of the matches I'd like if such a DVD was to be made. Half of these I've seen, the other half are from reputation and reading play-by-play on. I've narrowed it down to 10, what would you guys either include or remove?

    (these are my favourite matches)
Beach Blast 1992 - Sting beats Cactus Jack, Falls Count Anywhere match
Great American Bash 1992 - WCW World Title, Sting loses to Vader
Starrcade 1992 - Sting beats Vader, King of Cable Tournament Final
Superbrawl III 1993 - Sting loses to Vader, 'White Castle' strap match
Clash of Champions XXVII 1994 - Unification match, Sting loses to Flair
Nitro April 1999 - WCW World Title, Sting beats DDP

(and these are historically important matches)
Great American Bash 1990 - NWA World Title, Sting beats Flair
Fall Brawl 1996 - Wargames match, Sting walks out on WCW
Starrcade 1997 - WCW World Title, Sting beats Hollywood Hogan
Nitro May(?) 2001 - Sting beats Flair, final WCW match

    What do you guys think?

Wrestling personalities at the wedding included: Chris Jericho, Test, Gelnn Gilberti, Jeremy Borash, Dawn Marie and Simon Diamond.

The couple was back on the road for the Smackdown tour of Asia, but will be taking a week off later this summer for the honeymoon.

From Guttman's Take at the Torch:
"This past week we learned that Kane is not really burnt. Apparently the Big Red Machine is suffering from a mental illness that makes him think he is uglier than he actually is. This rare mental condition is that exact opposite of the one that Stephanie McMahon suffers from."

Also, maybe I'm slow and everyone else realized this years ago, but this week a thought occurred to me - Does Kane's hatred of Pete Rose stem from the fact that Rose was part of "The Big Red Machine" with the Cincinnati Reds back in the 70's?

I always thought that was part of the idea...that since Pete was with the famed "Big Red Machine", that's why they did the deal to have their Big Red Machine attack him.

BTW, this just in from Kidman and Wilson's wedding - apparently the Undertaker presented them with a present, but it turned out to be a cobra inside that viciously attacked Kidman. More later.

    Latest On Advertised WCW Show
    Posted By Ashish on 07.19.03

Looks like it was just an error...

The link Ticketmaster had up yesterday advertising a WCW show on January 1st, 2004 was an error. At this point, WWE has no plans of bringing back the WCW name.

    Credit: 1wrestling.com

I know we didn't react much to this story...but it's been entertaining watching several wrestling websites (especially the smaller ones) do the equivelent of running around waving their hands in the air when 'WCW' popped up again.

Eddie Guerrero News: US Title, Tajiri Turn, Japanese Feud
    Story By: Fred Cook
    July 19, 2003

Eddie Guerrero was booked to turn on Tajiri for several reasons.

One reason was because he is going to be given a singles push around the US Title, trying to create a ?wrestling belt? similar to how they built up the Smackdown Tag Titles.

In addition, the turn sets up a high profile grudge match for the Smackdown tour of Asia, in which they had several matches against one another.

The turn was not said to have anything to do with Chavo?s return, which is still set for September.

Details On Original Plan For Woman?s Title Battle Royal
    Story By: Fred Cook
    July 19, 2003

A few weeks back on Raw, Gail Kim won a woman?s title battle royal in her first WWE Raw match to become the WWE Woman?s Champion.

The original plan was to actually have Jacqueline win the match and the title, then have her turn heel and align with Teddy Long. However the plan was changed at the last minute to have Kim go over instead.

Nowinski/Bret Hart Connection?, Why WWE Fired Crash, more
    Story By: Ben Johnson
    July 19, 2003

The following news comes from The Torch Newsletter & The Observer Newsletter:

    - Crash Holly was recently let go from WWE as another "roster cut". WWE felt no need to keep around, since he was viewed as a "**** up" backstage and didn't have the in-ring talent to back up his bad attitude.

    - There is talk that Chris Nowinski is suffering from post-concussion syndrome, which is similar to what ended Bret Hart's career. No word if Nowinski will suffer the same fate.

Interesting, Torrie Wilson and Billy Kidman were married on the exact same date in the week of the same month as my parents in 1969. Hope their marriage lasts just as long and they have a kid just like me!!!;)

The way I figure it, Goldberg will most likely play it safe with HHH in the match as he is already on thin ice with WWE managment. Now, if he can get to SummerSlam and face HHH, I'm all for the old mule kick!

Damn, that sucks about Nowinski. I really hope he's okay because I think he can be a top heel down the line for them. Unlike those who actually won TE (undeservedly), Nowinski actually has talent, great mic skills, and the ability to get over as a throwback type heel.

Wasn't that Jake the Snake not the taker? It lead to a big Jake/Macho man feud where Jake tied him in the ropes and a snake bit him and everything.

No, that was when Jake was training Warrior so he could take on the Dark Side of the taker. He locked him in a room full of snakes, including a cobra in a mini-ciffin. Taker attacked him.

This was after Taker had locked Warrior in a coffin and Warrior "almost suffocated" while trying to claw his way out.

The Rock is not expected to appear on RAW tomorrow night in Los Angeles. He had made some radio appearances over the last two weeks stating he would be on the show, but will likely be busy due to his movie schedule. So unless there is a last minute change, he will not be on the show.

Goldberg, however, is scheduled to make his return on RAW tomorrow.
