Jeff Hardy Returns To Wrestling - Booed Out Of The Building
    Story By: Fred Cook
    July 20, 2003

Thanks to reader Dan Wahlers for this report:

Jeff Hardy made his ROH debut, in a Triple Threat against Joey Matthews, and Krazy K. Hardy got booed out of the building! I kid you not. The girls in the building screamed for him, but they were just totally drowned out by the booing and cat calls. I would say about 80-20 against Hardy. Hardy had no idea how to react to it, he just kept doing this usual shtick, and no one was buying it. He came out wearing this ridiculous Psychosis looking mask, which came off as soon as the match started. The crowd booed loudly everytime Hardy did an offensive move, it was crazy.

Chants of "You Got Fired", and "We Want Matt" were heard. Hardy did his usual WWE moves, but he looked less than ordinary after some of the other guys I saw tonight. Jeff did get the win with the Swanton Bomb, and the crowd absolutely hated the finish. Definitely not the kind of reaction I expected for Hardy, it was "Go Away, we don't want you here" heat too. I don't know what to make of it.

    ******************************************

Ouch!! I certainly wouldn't want to be in Jeff's shoes thats for sure. I guess the crowd has spoken!!!! [face_shocked] Tough, but TRUE crowd.

Damn, might have to rename "X-Pac heat" to "Jeff Hardy heat" [face_laugh]

That's the ROH crowd for you though. I think they'd boo a majority of the WWE guys if they showed up. Eddie Guerrero got a good reaction when he was there. I'd imagine guys like Benoit, Jericho, and Rey Mysterio would be popular but not many else.

Well I'm glad to hear Jeff Hardy get the type of heat he deserves, and definitely more than pleased at the 'We Want Matt' chants. It just proves how powerful Mattitude is, bwaha.

Moral of the story: McMahon will cut you off totally once you disappoint him. Why doesn't he notice similar patterns with HHH? Oh yeah, future son in law, silly me.

And HHH did make a ton of money for him at one point. Once you do that, you're pretty much never out of Vince's favor (see Hogan, Hulk).

    Amazing.

The Hardys and E&C & the Duds pretty much carried the tag division from 1999-2001, you'd think he'd at least have given Jeff the royalties from his own life ...

Chris Benoit is said to show a large amount of enthusiasm backstage in preparation for his matches.

Despite his more reserved and intense on-camera persona, behind the scenes he is known for giving fiery speetches intended to motivate wrestlers before their matches.

Before a recent match, he was spotted yelling at the Basham Brothers that ?You gotta feel it!?

The storyline where Kane set Jim Ross on fire on Raw has led to some interesting speculation backstage in WWE.

Some believe that it is a sign that Vince McMahon is looking for a new lead announcer on Raw, and is giving Jonathan Coachman a chance to prove himself with Ross sidelined with the storyline injury.

While McMahon is said to love Ross?s announcing, he reportedly is still unhappy with his appearance for TV.

On the other hand, some believe that this angle will give Ross?s character ?extra juice?.

Al Snow and Coachman have been praised internally for their work on Heat recently.

In other announcer-related news, Marc Lloyd is being moved from his on-air role to one in the sales department.

That all gets a big, fat ugh. Announcers should not be characters. At all. They should call the matches and the color man should root for the heel. It's a simple point that always enhanced the show. Getting them more involved doesn't help anything.

    Amazing.

I agree - for me, the commentary should follow a simple plan - the straight commentator calls the match, showing evidence of a wide knowledge of wrestling, the wrestlers, previous PPVs etc etc. The colour commentator should always support the heel in any match. Cheer when the babyface gets pounded and complain that the heel was robbed if he loses.

Colour commentators are encouraged to compliment the use of too much force, and extremely painful submission moves.

Both Paul Heyman, and to an extent, Jesse Ventura were excellent colour commentators.

I was flipping channels this morning and I ran across C Span which had a man stanbding in front of a podium speaking. It caught my eye because the caption said, "Warrior". At first I thought it was odd that he was a warriror. And then I read below that and it said, "World Wrestling Federation Champion." Thats right, the government put the "F" back in. He was speaking on behlaf of the National Conservative Student Conference. As you can imagine he through around plenty of fancy words. His main focus was that liberals are evil and conservatives are good. Of course it was tough to translate but that's what he was saying. Either that or he's going to finally get his revenge on Papa Shango. But I must say he didn't look like the Warrior one bit. Shoulder length hair with a lot of grey running through it and Goatee with grey on the chin. He's lost weight in his face but in the suit it was tough to tell how his body has held up. A couple of great quotes came out of it. 1) "Despite paying all the taxes I had, the government I did not know nothing about". Shame on Jim for the double negative. 2) In the middle of rambling on about great modern presidents and wars he pauses and says, "If I may be serious for a moment..." It was delivered in a way that would have made Lance Storm proud. I know how huge of a fan Eric S. is of the Warrior so I hope this doesn't bring a tear to his eye.

I'm telling you guys, Ross is just getting fitted for that Kane-style bodysuit and a revenge feud ;)

I've seen pictures of Warrior nowadays - he actually looks a fair bit like Kevin Nash now, with the beard and his hair in a ponytail.

Linda McMahon on TV is never a good thing.

Also, Stevie Richards as a male valet is an almost criminal waste of talent.

    Amazing.

so...did Gail Kim miss those moves on purpose?

    Or did they actually happen?

And I guess we just found out how they are going to start the Trish/Kim feud...

And that was a really bad missed kick on Gail. I mean she was about 6" off to the side...she would have been kicked either way.
