I had a question about the Jedi starfighters in the movies.

I'm making a short fan movie with a Jedi Knight protagonist... and I'm thinking of usinga Jedi Starfighter... but due to budget costs, I may not be able to use that big hyperdrive ring they use in the movies...

According to the databanks at Starwars.com... only Anakin's modified starfighter had a built-in hyperdrive.

And also, there seems to have been some advance versions of the orginal Jedi Starfighters (Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor) with lightspeed engines.

You see, according to the story I'd like the Jedi to arrive on a planet with a Jedi Starfighter.. I want to build a large model of the ship.. but I won't be able to get that hyperdrive ring in there..

Can I get away with what information is available and just use an original Jedi Starfighter (from the Clone Wars) with a built-in hyperdrive??

This is a Star Wars question, not a filmmaking question. Moving to Star Wars Community.

The answer is simple. It's your story. So whatever the needs of the story, if the budget demands that things be simplified then as long as the story doesn't suffer I don't see the issue.

Now if you're looking for a canon response, I would say that the closer to ROTS the story takes place the better.

It could also take place after ROTS. Just add some Jedi who didn't get the recall or distress signal, and still thinks he's on a mission.

But, you know, whatever makes the story float. You don't have to be canon about it. Adding a hyperdrive to a Jedi Starfighter is evidently possible, and Anakin may have the only CANON one, but hey, that's canon. Now, EU, on the other hand...

like the others have said, it's your story, so to answer your question, yes you can get away with it.

It is possible to do. To fit a hyperdrive in you would have to make adjustments, and remove a few non essential parts. But it is possible.

It's your story so you can do pretty much anything you want.

Thanks for the support! I hope I do make, I will... and I hope you all like it!

    One last question though.

Can those early Jedi Starfighters carry a fully built astromech droid? Like R2 and R4 droids... or ONLY the head. According to the Starwars databank, no character/ship in cannon or EU has done this. What would YOU GUYS do? :)

I'd like to have an astromech droid in the movie to accompany the Jedi ;p

It's your story dude, I see no reason why Jedi star ships didn't have space for an Astro droid, but even if they didn't it's YOUR story, that's the beauty of EU (for those who like it) yiu can cime up with anything within reason, and yours don't seem that far out at all.

Good luck with your story :D
