but remember, it was padme who asked jar-jar for
help from the gungan army, and had the idea to distract
the driods from theed, as well as destroying the control ship,
    not Qui-Gon.

Yes, but Qui-gon knew that Jar Jar would say something about it, and the queen would try to ask the Gungans for help. And Qui-gon also knew that Jar Jar would find the Gungans for the people of Naboo.

Well under normal circumstances I'd say Yoda, but his vision is clouded by the darkside. Before Qui-Gon died he seemed to see what others could not with "the boy." But then again at the end of TPM when Yoda is granting permission for Obi-Wan to train Skywalker he has such a look of worrysome on his face so its difficult to say..

Definately Qui-Gon, if Qui-Gon woulda trained anakin I think things woulda turned out different, because Qui-Gon was the first Jedi Anakin knew, and I think, even though you never hear Anakin say it, that Qui-Gon would have been able to handle Anakin better than Obi-Wan. Qui-Gon was already a master when he found Anakin, Obi-Wan was a padawan. Qui-Gon was the only one who beleive in Anakin and Anakin knew it. Nobody else even showed any interest except Jinn. Anakin gives Mace a mean look in EP I if you look closly to his facial expressions also, and Qui-Gon became the first to find immortality. Yoda didn't know anything about it until Qui-Gon spoke to him and ultimately Yoda becomes Qui-Gons aprentice.

This is an interesting question, but I'll have to go with Qui-Gon.

Yoda was too set in the ways of old, and being 900-some-odd years old, I'm sure I would be, too. Qui-Gon was trained by Dooku, and both of them saw the corruption in the Republic, and in the Jedi Order. You can clearly see in Episode I that Yoda and Mace resented Qui-Gon's out spoken way of being, and Obi-Wan even said "If you would just follow the code, you would be on the Council."
An example of the Jedi, and Yoda, being set in their ways, is when Qui-Gon goes to the council to inform them of the Sith. He tells them he was attacked by one, and that they have returned. Yet what do the high Council members say? "Impossible. The Sith have been extinct for a thousand years," or something of the like. They don't want to believe the Sith could've returned without their knowing, yet Qui-Gon is telling them, flat-out, the Sith are back. That's not wisdom of Qui-Gon's part, but it's a lack of wisdom on Yoda, and the part of the Jedi, to deny it.

Qui-Gon was a loose cannon of sorts; he did things according to the Jedi, but he also thought for himself and used his own wisdom in situations, which many Jedi do not. I believe that Qui-Gon was wise and had the right prespective on things because of his traning with Dooku. I believe Obi-Wan turned out to be one of the best Jedi in the Order because of his Master, Qui-Gon.
In addition to this, Qui-Gon found the "secret" to eternal life, so to speak. He taught it to Yoda. How many people can say they taught anything to Yoda? Not many. Obviously it takes a great amount of wisdom and knowledge to achieve what Qui-Gon did, and also to be able to teach it to others, such as Yoda and Obi-Wan.

I also recall reading a segment, though I believe it was cut, from Episode III where Yoda pledges himself as Qui-Gon's apprentice. That, there, is proof enough that Qui-Gon is wiser.

On a final note, people saying "Yoda is 900 years old, so he is wiser," aren't thinking logically; age doesn't make someone wise. Sure, it helps to be around for longer, but I have spoken with and met a great deal of people who are far older than myself and are not wise in the least.

    Qui-Gon is wiser.

He knew the Trade Federation scheme in Ep. 1 made no sense and sensed that someone was behind it all, he trained Obi-Wan and discovered immortality through the Force.

Yoda was too set on old ways and unwilling to change.
That's why Qui-Gon gets my vote in the end.

I completely agree Darth Spartan. If Qui Gon would have lived he might have let Anakin visit mom once in a while so he didn't feel so lonely and then he wouldn't have freaked out and had those dreams etc. Yoda was an old man set in his ways forced to change when his entire life had to change.

"Master's" like yoda, disliked this idea and because of it,
Qui-gon was never made a master.

    Qui-Gon was definately a Master.

    OT Yoda > Qui-Gon > PT Yoda

OT Yoda was taught by Qui-Gon ;)

And with Jar Jar. Qui-Gon didnt to bring him. Jar Jar refused to leave Qui-Gon

Qui-Gon found the chosen one, learned immortality, and discovered the sith.

    Qui-Gon is wiser than Yoda

    Yoda.

Qui Gon lacked the foresight to notice that there was something elusive, elsewhere going on when even his padawan, Obi Wan, felt that there was something going on. Qui Gon lied, cheated, stole, and violated the Jedi Code so often that he was the first Jedi in a thousand years to be killed by a Sith.

His 'violations' have nothing to do with his fate. He was doing his Jedi Council commanded duty to protect the Queen. Darth Maul was the better fighter. The first Jedi in a thousand years? Plainly, we ignore the EU. :p Darsha Assant and Anoon Bondara, anyone? :p Besides the Sith were in hiding. That means no running around killing Jedi. Qui-Gon was unlucky enough to be the Jedi set by his mission on a collision course with a Sith.

Yoda became Qui-Gon's pupil. Qui-Gon found the Chosen One(Who DID bring balance, albeit in an unexpected way :p ).
Qui-Gon was right to focus on the 'here and now'. He didnt lie, cheat or steal. Where is the evidence behind such accusations? Not to mention any evidence showing that Yoda avoided such things.
Qui-Gon is the wiser of the two.

Yoda by a longshot. A lot of people will say Qui-Gon because he was able to retain his spirit after death but also consider Yoda never had the chance to do that, he wasn't dead...
