Just wondering if this has happened to anybody else. I have some QuickTime Sorenson 3 files I exported and they play fine; in QuickTime player I can step through each frame and everything is normal. In fact, if I import into AE and double-click the footage file in the bin, I can view it just fine too. Every frame is there, it is the proper framerate, etc. However, once I drop it into a composition (create composition based on footage), it repeats most frames twice, but some it doesn't. I sent the files to a couple other people, who also experienced the same problem. I can't figure it out. Like I said, I thought I'd describe this weird little problem to see if anybody here has encountered anything similar.

What version of Quicktime are you using? Version 7 for windows has been known to have a few bugs. Now, I don't know if this is the problem, I'm just trying to figure things out.

i get this problem, been trying to firgure it out for so long i had actually given up, its weird its as if "After effects" itself has bugs (im using 6.0 pro pc version btw).

Actually, reminds me of a thing that premiere does, when you drop your footage into the timeline, and your editing away, and the sound and video (one will go faster than the other) i cant figure that out either.

I did have a problem with AE. Like bullet_head_films said. I import the footage and then the video would play fine but then it would be repeating the sound frames more than once so it was all off.

Yeah After Effects has some difficulties with sound sometimes, particularly pertaining to MP3 stuff, I find.

For the moment, I'm not using sound of any kind, just video.

I seem to have QuickTime 6.5.2.

Just tried it out in AE 6.5 Pro with QT 6.5.2 - everything seemed to play ok in a new composition with a Sorenson 3 file. Could it possibly be something that has to do with the quality of your preview?

    [face_laugh]

Let's see... After Effects is made by... Adobe! Hm.... Yup. It's got bugs.

I for one, suspect that their entire marketing strategy at Adobe is to release a buggy version, a minor patch so that it works on some things, then release a new version that fixes some fo the old bugs, and introduces some new features and new bugs. Everytime you buy a new piece of software, you get to hope that the bug you've been having the most problems with is gone! It's like a game!

    What fun! :D

Ryan, have you tried RE-exporting it out as a Sorenson III file to see if the problem is exported too?
I know this dosn't solve the immediate problem, but may help narrow down what's wrong.

I like to use "adaptive resolution" when scrubbing through my timeline - have you tried all those options? I'm just guessing at possible remedies here. ;)

Yea I get this problem of the picture changing only every 3 frames. But anyway, I haven't found a way to fix this problem.

Hmm. How strange. I've been just trying various tweaks on how I export this. The original footage was ripped from a DVD and in 23.98 FPS. For kicks, I tried exporting as 24 (which, by the way, usually only makes things more problematic, in my experience) and to my suprise, the first frame is repeated, but the rest is fine. Gotta love it. I guess I can trim the first frame, but I have the feeling that that frame will be missing from somewhere else, etc. But at least I'm on the right track, looks like.

As the usual workaround I´d try to re-export into uncompressed format from quicktime and use that for further editing in AE. I for one have the feeling that AE has quite a few problems with already compressed formats. I don´t work with QT at all (PC using raw AVIs), but it´s the same here. Importing stuff like divx avi or the likes, you get slow work speed, artifacts and what not where ass uncompressed always works like a charme.

I have it. This really isn't a version issue... and like I siad, I more or less figured out the problem; It was AE's handling of 23.98 FPS video.
