Glad he's been found guilty on all charges. I had genuine worries he'd get off on the more severe charges and possibly all of them.

Just heard about the guilty verdict.

Good.

 

Chauvin looked like he was expecting that verdict. His legal team will undoubtedly appeal, but he’s a murderer and the jury got it right.

It was pretty satisfying to watch those handcuffs being applied.

I think the ability to sue them personally does more to curve/police their behavior than the possibility of being convicted. My evidence are the decades of them getting off at trial for committing clearly egregious acts. Open the door on being able to sue them and, while there will be new negatives and positives to deal with, I think we’d see police outrageous aggression go down.

 

The general consensus on twitter seems to be that he did not expect guilty verdicts and was shocked.

 

Maybe I read his expression wrongly. To me, he looked like he had been briefed to expect that verdict.

Just as an aside, I live in the west coast of Scotland and I just heard fireworks being set off (I’m guessing it’s in celebration of the verdict as it’s 10:30 PM here).

 

Ive already seen multiple comparisons between the verdict and Pontius Pilate wiping his hands of crucifying Christ.

This. I feel the same sigh of relief (EDIT: Exactly the gif Merk posted below) as when Trump lost in November. It's basically the acknowledgement by some that this is not what we want to be and that this behavior is not ok.

I'm relieved that the jury trusted what their eyes showed them. This was by far the most cut and dry case in a long time. His defense's attempts at reasonable doubt were pretty unreasonable so I'm not shocked it took just under a day to deliberate. So yeah. You are right that it's a start.

But it's not enough. So much more is needed. And of course, much of what is truly needed lies with Congress...

 

I’m glad that at the very, very least... a cop can’t get away with this here. And I was far from confident that you couldn’t get away with it here (putting it mildly).

 

The depressing thing to consider is that this is an outlier. Most of the time, cops DO get away with it.

 

Yeah, it's an outlier and I think it's obvious why we were able to get an indictment and a guilty verdict: the combination of the fact that it was all caught on camera plus the largest nationwide protests in United States history. It shouldn't take that much effort to get a murderer held accountable.

 

One cop didn't get away with this here, but a cop still can get away with it. Without going too off topic, he's not the first, and likely not the last, even to kill someone in a similar manner.

 

The hope I would think is that this guilty verdict leads to more guilty verdicts.

 

Glad he was denied bail, because his buddies would so rush him to the nearest border in the middle of the night and we'd never see him again.

 

Well, we should find out pretty quick. Aren't the others due up next?
