Saga Rank Your Favorite Jedi

Just choosing characters from the saga alone, list five Jedi knights of any rank. To keep this in the spirit of the saga forum, I will ask that cameos from episode nine will not count. You have to list characters with a notable presence in the saga as such. Also this is based on their performance and character as a Jedi, not after they quit and became a Sith lord or whatever. No dark siders, only Jedi. Post-redemption characters are okay, and you can include characters without lines if they have a moment or two in the saga films. You may if you wish include some commentary on what you like about each one. If you want you can continue the list beyond five with an honorable mention section. I'd say that characters who are not Jedi in any of the saga films, such as Finn and Leia Organa, should not be on this list, but I want it to be open to interpretation so you can include them if you consider them to have acted in the films as Jedi.

1. Luke Skywalker - The most relatable and likable Jedi. It's satisfying watching him develop from a whiny, headstrong farm boy into a noble Jedi. I also appreciate that even at his peak he's never shown as too perfect or overpowered.
2. Obi-Wan Kenobi - The original Jedi of the saga. He displays great depth as a character embodying the virtues of the Jedi while also being too constrained by their rigid philosophy.
3. Yoda - One of the most iconic mentor characters in storytelling history. His scenes on Dagobah are some of the best in the series.
4. Anakin Skywalker - I have mixed feelings about his portrayal in the prequels but he is an interesting character regardless. If anything his arc creates a nice foundation for the first six movies.
5. Ki-Adi Mundi - Without him the Jedi would have forgotten about the droid attack on the Wookies.

 

1. Obi-Wan Kenobi
Caring, wise, and a man of heart. Obi-Wan is both Luke and Anakin's surrogate father, installing their best qualities and helping them to be the Jedi that they grow to be. However, he is at the end of the day, human. Seeing his transformation into a young, by-the-books apprentice to a much more heartful Jedi Master is great.

2. Luke Skywalker
The optimist, the dreamer, and the compassionate young Jedi who saves his father. A beautiful story of forgiveness and unconditional love. Luke's journey is engaging as it is relatable. I really wish we got to see more of Luke's prime in the films and TV.

3. Anakin Skywalker
Not the best Jedi in terms of virtue, but the most human in my eyes. Anakin is a man facing demons and trauma, and to see him come so far by the end of the war, only to lose everything, is a compelling story and an important cautionary tale to not let your emotions control your actions.

4. Yoda
Of course, Yoda represents the Jedi at their strongest and wisest. He always cares for his pupils, pushing his students to be their best and to let the Force guide them through darkness.

5. Qui-Gon Jinn
I really love the surrogate father role he had with Anakin in TPM. He is encouraging, worries about Anakin's self-being, and his relationship with Obi-Wan is one of the most underrated.

8. Mace Windu
It's Mace. He is the Jedi's most badass sledgehammer of a man who will come down with the force of the Republic if ya mess with it or the Jedi. Just a cool dude.

7. Kit Fisto
I've always seen Kit as the chillest Jedi. I really like how he defended Anakin during the 2003 show before Anakin's knighthood. And that goofy smile on Geonosis endeared him to me.

That's my list based on what was shown in the saga. I would love to count Leia as a Jedi, but we never really saw her as one. I can't count that scene from RoS personally, for similar reasons that I'm not really counting background Jedi from the PT that were developed in TCW. I see a lot of people listing Ahsoka. If I was counting TCW or expanded universe Jedi, she'd probably be my #1.

I don't count the sequels. I guess if you include their sequel portrayals, Luke drops out of the top 5 and Ki Adi Mundi or Jocasta Nu slide in there. I'd like to include Aayala Secura for uhm reasons, but she doesn't do much but get shot. Barriss Offee, Luminara, Kit Fisto, etc. never say a word. Mace is the only other one with a big part, but I think he's kind of a huge jerk to my man Anakin.
