I recommend at least watching the episodes Nightsisters, Monster, and Witches of the Mist. I'm not incredibly happy with the retcons TCW made to Ventress' and Maul's backstories, but it looks like that portion of TCW is going to be essential to following the EU for the forseeable future. Besides, they introduce the awesome new character Mother Talzin who makes an appearance in Shadow Hunter's short story.

Speaking of Talzin... anyone else wish that she had been Gethzerion? I know it follows the typical "everyone in the GFFA is related" trope, but I'd love for Gethzerion to be a descendent of Talzin.

On that thought, is Ventress Talzin's daughter? Honestly can't remember.

I think that might create more problems...Gethzerion had never been off-planet, IIRC, while Talzin has. I'm pretty sure Gethzerion is older than Talzin too, but I'm not sure.

No. But you can see Ventress mother in the "Nightsisters" episode. Talzin has the "Mother" title because she's the leader of her clan.

It is, which makes the book an incredible buy at paperback price...assuming you can find the darn thing...

i wonder what would be a good candidate to get new short stories for AOTC.

    We would get maybe

AOTC book rerelease with short story

AOTC tie in book with new short story

Its not as easy as TPM because much of the AOTC tie ins are clone wars materials, and they are already covering that.

The approaching storm was dreadful, rogue planet was hellish and Outbound flight is brilliant but perhaps too reliant on the Zahn chaarcters saga.

what would fit best for rerelease?

The only AOTC related novel I can think of that's not about the Clone Wars is Alan Dean Fosters The Approaching Storm. I guess that could work.

No one's going to buy TAS if it was rereleased though- it's by far one of the least popular novels in the EU and a terrible choice for a rerelease promotional tie-in.

Something Clone Wars-related would make more sense, since there's a better selection of material. Something like Shatterpoint or Yoda: Dark Rendezvous (actually, the latter would make sense, since it seems all the AOTC rerelease material will be focusing on Yoda for it's imagery, as TPM has focused on Maul).

One of the few major oversights in the EU still is the decided lack of a true TPM/AOTC bridge novel- TAS is barely connected to AOTC's events. RP & OBF are more tied to TPM (or Zahn's minisaga). The best TPM/AOTC bridge material out there is Bounty Hunter, really.

I'm hoping one day a Dooku novel could function that way (though I suppose it would be harmed in this purpose by having to include his post-AOTC activities).

Trust me I know The Approaching Storm is a pretty poor book but it's the only novel that fits the bill. I doubt they would re-release a Clone Wars novel as they would not want to take away from TCW show as there are huge gaping continuity issues in most of the Clone Wars books now and the show is by and large seen as the official Continuity of The Clone Wars.

But as you said, hopefully a Dooku book is released, written by Luceno preferably, that bridges the gap between TPM & AOTC.

Even though it's technically a TPM tie-in, it would be cool if Cloak of Deception was re-released before AOTC. Many elements and characters in Episode II are introduced in the novel, and let's face it, it was a crime that it wasn't released this year for Episode I. :p

i suspect that cloak of deception was not rereleased because it does not focus on Maul and James Luceno was already releasing Darth Plagueis and two Darth Maul short stories.

If I do not have any background with the clone wars tv show will I not be able to understand these short stories?

    Sorry for double posting...

No you will not have problems though Endgame is connected with Plagueis novel.

"End Game" is fine, all by itself. Even if you don't know a thing about Hego Damask.;)

I was just wondering if the new edition (2011?) of Darth Maul Shadow Hunter still contains Sabateur? I know it has a NEW short story, Restraint, in it, but is Sabateur still in there?

Thinking of picking up the new edition, and want to know if I can give my old copy away to a friend. If the new one doesn't have both short stories, then I'll probably keep the old copy.

Saboteur is there. The only differences are the new cover and the new short story in the end.

Well **** that. The new edition doesn't have badass finger-flinging Nute Gunray on the cover. Restraint's not worth the loss of a Gunray. Pfft.

You are right about that. Without finger-flinging Nute Gunray the cover misses its true potential. But even the original cover lacked a naked finger-flinging Nute Gunray, and without that it couldn't achieve perfection.

I read the Shadow Hunter with much delight and I had to laugh many times. The only open question for me is, what punishment Darth Sidious imposed upon Darth Maul for not handing over the holocron to him directly but to let it slip to Lorn Pavan who gave it Palpatine in the end. I guess Sidious was not amused about this even after Maul have killed Lorn Pavan in the end.

I think End Game short story is Legends and not Canon, but it would be cool if we had an Animation version of this story in Canon as well.

I'm glad someone picked this up to tell (even though it doesn't make a lot of sense in the context of the film)--the short story is based on a level from the Galactic Battlegrounds video game, of all things. Loved that game.
