Speculation Red 5 and X-Wing Pilots Spin-off

Take a look at Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher, and Ultimate Avengers 1 & 2 - definitely not for kids. The first 10 minutes of AC:BW&P has Frank Castle making his way through a warehouse, Max Payne-style, gunning down henchmen and kicking some serious arse, and UA features Captain America gunning down Nazis and chatting to buxom "broads" in a bar. It's fairly safe to say that traditional western animation is being considered more and more for adult audiences as well more recently, taking a leaf out of the Japanese film industry.

Maybe Disney and LFL will surprise us all. Maybe instead of going with the Red Five thing, they'll option Pink Five and make that into a feature film....

 

... and all three of those films were straight-to-DVD. Which just proves my point - adult animation is considered a niche and not popular enough for the big screen (again, perhaps unfairly, perhaps not).

 

As unfair as it may be, animation does have the stigma of being for kids. Anecdotally, it is why I did not see TCW. I enjoyed the few episodes of the tv series I've caught from time to time, but it is not something I *have* to watch. Take that for what it's worth...

 

If this does end up as a live-action film, I hereby nominate Lee Pace to play Wedge Antilles.

 

Either a movie or a TV show based on the X Wing Pilots would be cool, I know they made a series of books, what do you all think of this ?

 

Would be something I would be very interested in. As such, it will either never happen, or be targeted at stupid children.

 

But Star Wars is Aimed at kids or shall I say families, the problem and main reason people did not like the prequels is because all the kids that grew up with Star Wars in the 70's and the 80's all grew up and Star Wars stayed the same. it wasn't a problem for me because I was diagnosed with Peter Pan Syndrome and I am perpetually in the state of mind of a child kind of like Michael Jackson !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

I was under the impression that Red 5 was going to be about X wing pilots.

 

Isn't the 3rd spin-off rumored to be called Red 5?

I dont quite get the merge I meant for the X wing Pilots Movie or TV show idea to be about somthing Live Action, I have never heard of this Red 5, where did the rumor come from? Althogh as I brought up in another thread I think a Pixar Star Wars Toy Story Movie "with star wars toys" would be cool but I never meant for my Idea to be merged with my Live Action X Wing Pilot movie/TV show Idea...... ??

 

That's a fair point... I'll alter the title of the thread to not just be about whether Red 5 will be animated. This can be the Red 5 and X-Wing pilots spin-off discussion thread. But for TV shows, that should be discussed in the SW TV forum.

Here is the ot her problem with Pixar - their docket is full. They have projects announced until 2018, and another 3 on the go with no release dates - Inside Out, the good Dino, Finding Dory, the movie about Dia de Muetros, Incredables 2, Cars 3, and 3 untitled projects (one potentially being Toy STory 4). When would they fit a Star Wars movie in there?

As I said earlier, Pixar makes Pixar movies and that is HUGELY valuable to Disney. They won't have Pixar stop what they are good at to do something Lucasfilm can do just fine, if not better.

 

I agree with that regarding Pixar.

 

Its the same reason Pixar doesn't do Princess musicals. Its not what they do, its not what they are interested in doing, and the Disney Animation studio does them very well. So they let their two studio's "do what they do". That way they get Monsters U. AND Frozen in the same year.

If Red 5 is susposed to come out in 2020, why take that away from Lucasfilm and give it to Pixar whent hey could have X Pixar movie AND Red 5 in the same year?

 

Star Wars is for Families not Adults only, as a matter of fact you can make a case that star wars is geared for kids. and I wouldn't want it any other way!!!
