we'd have to enter twice, or you could co-pilot

if you persuade me i don't want to get thrown into freezing water from a great height you could take my place

Ok, i got all the garb through the post at long bloody last.

Before we all make any decissions about entering this, can you all read the following carefully please?

    The Rules.

01- All flying machines are to be launched from the 6m high runway using only human power.

02- No auxiliary lifting devices, power sources, or stored energy (e.g. elastic, batteries, clockwork springs, rocket fuel ect...) can be used.

03- Modified aircraft- e.g. paragliders, hang-gliders, jet fighter planes, light aircraft, commercial jets ect, are not permitted.

04- Pilots are not permitted to physically attach themselves to their flying machine.

05- The wingspan of the flying machine must be less than 10m.

06- The wheelbase of the flying machine can be no more than 4m wide.

07- The maximum airframe weight is 200kg- any heavier and the salvage teams might drown.

08- All flying machines must have some kind of buoyancy device on all major parts of the plane to avoid them submerging...or landing.

09- All competitors must wear the life jacket and helmet provided by the event organisers.

10- For their own safety, all competitors must be able to swim 100m unassisted.

11- Crews may no more than 5 members, including the pilot.

12- All applicants must be over 16.

13- All flying machines and their pilots must arrive on Saturday 2nd August, where air traffic control will guide you into the hanger.

14- From 12pm-4pm their team of scrutineers will check all aircraft for their airworthiness.

15- Approved flying machines will then take off from the runway over the Serpentine from 1pm on 3rd August.

16- After the flight all flying machines will be gathered in the bone yard and cleared by the water safety crew.

17- Unfortunately the salvage teams can not return any part of the flying machines, so don't use anything you're not prepared to leave at the bottom of the Serpentine.

    Judging.

And here is how you can impress the judges...

Creativity- This is all about the design and originality of both the flying machine and the crew. The more inventive the better. A maximum of 10 points.

Performance- You'll have 30 seconds on the platform before take-off. This the time to wow the crowd with your performing talents and get them on your side with your favourite music track.

Distance- Self-explanitory really. Just try and fly as far across the lake as you can. 1 point for every metre flown.

In addition, there are bonus points to be had. A clap-o-metre will monitor the cheers of the crowd and a maximum of 10 points can be won if you impress them.

So, who still wants to enter? :)

I will point out that i cant send in the application form without a sketch of the flying machine. So, whatever you guys want to do, you'd best make your minds up quick!! :)

Ok, lets put it this way, not only do we need someone to design it, but build it as well as get it to London. Now, i know i'm the CR for this thing, but i personally haven't got enough time to do it. And i need the sketch/design within the next few days. :(

So, unless one of you guys can do it, i'd suggest we just spectate. :p

But make your minds up soon.

And hey, it's going to be a very good laugh even if we don't enter.

As I've said on the Plymouth board I'm in for the ground crew if you want -Got a Tie Pilot suit to wear -quite fitting really considering the event

YOSHEE -How about an Imperial shuttle -You could have the 3 wings -2 on the arms and one strapped to your head -They could be made out of light weight foam if you want to keep them or some card which will get soggy but is chearper.

This idea would be Easy to transport Light weight etc
You could use the same principal to make an X-Wing or Tie Fighter -e-mails on the blink again so can't send any sketches -sorry :(

However I would love to build it if it was something as simple as that -I could go more complex but getting it there is the problem as I'd be going by bus

[face_laugh] That sounds like a great idea indeed, and i apprectiate the offer to build it too. Unfortunately, it breaks the rules, in that parts of it are attatched to the pilot. :(

However, i think you should bring that costume of yours anyway! Sounds good. :)

It could be adapted so that the wings are attatched to a broom/bike or something and Stuey just clings on for his life

Hiya -I've just done some sketches for a Tie Fighter -

It will have a basic wooden frame which stuey can hold onto [and let go of],This will be like an elongated H with the horizontal at 100 cm and the 2 side bits at 80cm or there abouts -The wings [about 160cm tall] will attatch to these and it will all fold inwards and flat [like a Standee] for ease of transportation. The "bubble" of the Tie will be a flat disk with all the details painted on -possible diameter 40 cm.
    So basically he'd hold on ,run,jump and...fall.
Next week as in Sunday 10th?

I'll send you the sketches [including some of possible humourous results for Stuey if it goes wrong :D] tommorow night Yoshee. If they don't go through than you can probably knock up a sketch based on that description
After that I won't be back until Monday.
